Netflix Viewing Documentary Party- Movie “A Plastic Ocean” (learning) This netflix viewing event where we watched “A Plastic Ocean”, deepened our learning about the effects of heavy consumerism which have affected our oceans. Members of NGSC joined us to learn along us about these effects. The documentary featured experts in the field which we had the opportunity of learned from. This documentary is award-winning, backed by “Plastic Oceans”, a non-profit organization whose mission is to end plastic pollution, and also to foster sustainable communities worldwide. Continuing this education helps individuals within NGSC to implement alternate ways of living to help solve issues encountered by the most common ways of life.

E-Waste presentation This powerpoint presentation focused on the lifecycle of electronic waste and how it affects our environment. The amount of e-waste generated per year along with the effects of its disposal were among the greatest concerns due to their volatile nature. As well as how this affects communities and natural resources around the world.

EcoBrick Building MT 22 hosted an EcoBrick building event where we taught participants the proper process of building an EcoBrick, the benefits of EcoBricking, and then we actually made several EcoBricks! This event accounted for one of our service and one of our learning credits. To briefly overview, EcoBricks are a way to repurpose our non-recyclable and non-biodegradable plastic waste. Through EcoBrick building, we can help divert plastic waste from landfills and help repurpose that waste in various types of creative projects.

Vegan cooking night! MT 22 hosted a cooking party! We used only vegan ingredients to make stir fry ramen, a classic college favorite. We discussed all things cooking, veganism, and the pollution that is produced from animal byproducts. After cooking, we reflect on how easy it is to create vegan meals. Oftentimes, vegan ingredients are cheaper and less time consuming to work with when comparing to animal products.

Sustainability fundraiser game Night! MT 22 hosted a joint sustainability fundraiser event along with MT 25,26 and 27! This event had many different parts such as a guest speaker from Keep Tempe Beautiful, a few presentations, and games such as Freerice and 2 truths and a lie. This event touched upon many different aspects of sustainability. We were able to learn, network, advocate and provide services through this event.

Sustainability Panel During the sustainability panel, we invited people from all majors to listen to professionals in the field of sustainability discuss their experiences. This helped our mission team as well as listeners from other mission teams learn how their passions and skills can be utilized to encourage sustainability. Our speakers all came from different majors and were able to incorporate how they use their unique skill set to work towards a more sustainable future.
