Welcome to Richard Harris, The Music of the Movies

On behalf of the board of the Richard Harris International Film Festival, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to this musical celebration of the life of Richard Harris, in association with the Global Irish Festival Series and Limerick City and County Council.

The Richard Harris International Film Festival, is delighted to bring you on a journey through Harris’s momentous career in the company of the world renowned RTE Concert Orchestra, under the baton of the irrepressible David Brophy. It is a privilege to be joined by David and the Orchestra this evening, as we experience and enjoy their very special arrangement of iconic scores from films such as Gladiator and Unforgiven.

The festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and tonight is sure to be an appropriate and memorable way to remember Richard as we mark 20 years since his passing. The festival is truly grateful for our partnership with Limerick City and County Council over the last decade and we look forward to partnering with the Council for many years to come to bring more events like this to Limerick. This event would not be possible without the kind support of the Council.

We would like to welcome and express our gratitude to Mayor Francis Foley & all the Councillors; Limerick City and County Council CEO Pat Daly; Eileen Coleman and all representatives of the Council here tonight. We would also like to thank Failte Ireland and the Department of Foreign Affairs for their support to the festival through the Global Irish Festival Series.
