Why I support RGS Bursaries Fred Edgar was at the RGS from 1948 until 1956. He now lives in Leamington Spa, “dangerously close to the South”, he writes, but still keeps in touch with Don Buchanan, Brian Heppell etc., as mentioned in Don’s article a few ONA Magazines ago. Fred is a regular supporter of RGS Bursaries. He offered the following short message for the ONA Magazine, one of great encouragement to those on the bursary committee whose efforts help advance this valuable facet of the RGS’s outreach work. “Like many Old Novos, I am constantly aware of the tremendous start that my time at the RGS gave me, not only in the learning that got me into university and onwards into a career, but in the values that have stayed with me. I was a scholarship boy, and without that it would have been at best difficult and maybe impossible for my parents to
support me during those years. Now that I can do so I welcome the chance, through the Bursary scheme, to give another child the opportunities that I enjoyed myself.” We hope these words will help inspire other ONs to offer their support. If you would like to join Fred in donating to RGS Bursaries then please call Jane Medcalf, Campaign Manager on 0191 212 8909. Alternatively, you can make a secure online donation at www.rgs.newcastle.sch.uk/rgsbursaries/how-to-donate where all donations are gratefully received.
