Museo Andino Santa María

El Museo Santuarios Andinos de la Universidad Católica de Santa María de Arequipa, es una casona de líneas sencillas, que posee en su interior a la Dama de Ampato, como su atracción principal; la momia conocida popularmente Juanita, es una momia prehistórica famosa en el mundo por ser la mejor conservada, Juanita fue una niña de entre 12 y 14 años y según las investigaciones, habría sido sacri cada para honrar al nevado Ampato, una montaña sagrada. Fue hallada justamente en el Ampato a 6.288 metros de altura en septiembre de 1995 por los investigadores

José Antonio, Miguel Zárate y Johan Reinhard. Se cree que la niña habría sido alimentada con una dieta a base de hierbas y hojas de coca, antes del sacri cio, debido a que éstas le servirían para aliviar el dolor de la muerte. Durante el sacri cio Juanita habría sido adornada con nas prendas y atractivos tocados de pluma.

Luego de ser estudiada y exhibida por muchos años, Juanita ha sido trasladada al Museo Santuarios Andinos, recinto que fue inaugurado el 26 de marzo del año 1997.

En el museo también se exponen ofrendas de los incas a los apus o montañas sagradas, también muestra artefactos y objetos que tienen una antigüedad de 550 años y que corresponden a la época Inca. El museo exhibe cuerpos congelados de antiguos peruanos, textiles y ofrendas metálicas entre otros.

Santa Marias Andean Museum

The Andean Museum Sanctuary of Santa Maria’s Catholic University of Arequipa, is a typical house with simple lines, that keeps The Ampato Lady, as its main attraction; The mummy known popularly as Juanita, is a prehistoric famous mummy in the world for being preserved, Juanita was a girl between 12 and 14 years old, according to investigations, she would have gotten sacri ced in honor the Ampato Snow Mountain, a sacred mountain. She was found at 6,288 height meters in Ampato, in September 1995 for the investigators José Antonio, Miguel Zárate and Johan Reinhard.

It is believed that the girl would have been fed with a diet based on grasses and coca leaves, before the sacri ce, because these would be useful for relieving the pain of death. Juanita would have been adorned with ne garments during the sacri ce and attractions played of pen.

Right after being studied and exhibited for many years, Juanita has been transferred to the Andean Sanctuary Museum, enclosure opened in March 26 of 1997. Also they expose at the museum the Incas oblations to the Apus or sacred mountains; also you show appliances and objects that have an antique of 550 years that belong to the Inca period. The museum exhibits frozen bodies of ancient Peruvian, textile and metallic oblations between other ones.
