Visit www.methleypark.co.uk for more information. Of course, a good fitness regime and keeping your teeth in good condition as well as keeping up with the latest fashion can also help beat the aging process and can take years of your overall appearance."

Before "The secret to looking 10 years younger is one of the hottest topics around at the moment. Popular interest has spawned various TV programmes on the subject such as the Channel 4 TV show of the same name. However, there are very few people that can genuinely say that they have achieved it. One person that can is plastic surgery patient Franceska Harrison, who had a face and neck lift, eye bag removal (blepharoplasty), endoscopic brow lift and coleman fat transfer under Mr Fourie at Spire Methley Park Hospital. The whole procedure cost only ÂŁ8,500. Franceska found Mr Fourie by visiting one of their cosmetic surgery open evenings and was very happy with the results.

After

The Spire Methley Park Hospital has the largest cosmetic surgery department in the whole group which hosts an extensive team of Plastic Surgery consultants, all members of BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons) or BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons) or both. Procedures on offer include breast surgery, body reshaping and facial surgery, they also offer specialist post weight loss procedures. The hospital holds regular themed open evenings where patients can find out more information. On one of these evenings patients can listen to a presentation by a highly accredited plastic

What’s Happening to the Bees? Bees are dying in their billions and environment experts are warning the UK could face dire financial repercussions unless more is done to remedy the ailing bee population. New research has recently been presented on the crisis and highlighted the far-reaching impact bees have on the eco-system. Findings showed England suffered the biggest decline out of the whole of Europe, with bee numbers down 54% (in the UK, around one fifth of honeybee hives were lost in the winter of 2008/09). Bees pollinate a third of the food we eat, and this contributes £200million a year to the UK economy. Disease, habitat destruction, climate change and insecticides have all been blamed for the depleting numbers of bees, which was first noted in the USA five years ago. Flowering plants require insects for pollination. The most effective is the honeybee, which pollinates 90 commercial crops worldwide. As well as most fruits and vegetables – including apples, oranges, strawberries, onions and carrots – they pollinate nuts, sunflowers and oil-seed rape. Coffee, soya beans, clovers – like alfafa, which is used for cattle feed – and even cotton are all dependent on honeybee pollination to increase yields. The alternative of having humans scatter the pollen manually would cost an estimated £1.5 billion a year What Can We Do? Bees look for two things when they forage on flowers. The first is nectar which is loaded with sugar and the bee's main source of energy. The second is pollen which provides proteins and fat for a balanced diet. Shrubs that are ideal for this include: • Ceanothus • Heathers - Erica and Calluna • Thyme - Thyme Vulgaris 10

• • • • • • •

Lavender - Lavandula Hebe Candytuft - Iberis Umbellata Escallonia Sage - Salvia Officinalis Pyracantha Broom - Genista

Everyone can do their bit whether you have a garden, allotment or window box. Be Bee friendly and help to stop them from disappearing.

Stuart Ward, Director of WABSYS Ltd is giving the benefit of his expertise on the importance of backing up the contents of your computer - a routine task often ignored by many users at their peril! Backup software and services copy the contents of your hard drive-those photos, videos, songs, and documents you can't afford to lose-to another drive. If your drive dies, you have duplicate copies of some or all of your files. But not all backup software is the same. Some copy only the files and folders that you specify. Others products make an exact copy, or image, of your hard drive on a backup disk or removal media. Both methods have their pros and cons. The selective backup is best if you only want to backup or archive your data files, but you will have to make sure you have installation discs for your operating system and your applications. The drive image backup option is better if you want to copy everything on your computer, even your operating system. This makes it easier to restore your computer to the way it was before your hard drive died. You can backup to USB hard drives, DVD’s, NAS boxes (with Network Attached Storage), other computers and online storage centre’s but avoid USB memory sticks and ZIP drives as they are unreliable.

SyncBack This is a free and very flexible piece of software, it can keep two folders in sync or backup data to just about anywhere. They also do a paid-for version which will even backup files which are in use.

Acronis Truimage Acronis is the easiest to use disc imaging software available, it makes an exact copy of your hard disks and allows you to restore your system in minutes to an earlier time. This is great for recovering from a total fai;ure of a hard drive or a servere virus infection.

MozyHome This is a great online backup utility, its not free but it is reliable, your subscription gives you unlimited space so no worries about storing that massive ITunes Library To get started I would suggest that you contact your favorite Computer specialist and ask them to help you set it up, that way you can be sure that you’ll never face the horror of data loss.

parenting... Baby Massage Being a new mum can sometimes seem an endless cycle of feeding and changing nappies. Massaging your baby gives you a time when you can relax and be together and it can have lots of wonderful benefits.

Relaxation Baby massage can be relaxing for mum and baby. Babies sometimes get stressed being in new environments and are able to pick up on your stress - taking time out together for a massage teaches your baby how to relax, and mums find they relax too. Scientists have now shown that very gentle touch, even something as simple as a hug releases the hormone oxytocin. It’s effects are to lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety and pain and promote relaxation. The benefits are two-way, when you massage your child your own stress hormone levels improve and your blood pressure lowers.

Bonding Bonding is a loving emotional connection between parent and child, which is formed and strengthened over time. Research has shown that healthy physical and emotional development depends on successful early bonding. The establishment of this bond between parent and child is a complex process involving several elements. Baby massage incorporates critical elements of bonding and attachment; skin contact (touching or holding), smell, making eye contact, facial expressions and vocalisation (talking, making soothing sounds, or singing).

Physical Benefits Massage has lots of physical benefits and for babies can play a vital role in circulation, digestion and growth. Using simple techniques you can ease the symptoms of colds, colic and teething. Stimulating the immune system through massage increases your baby’s resistance to disease. Massage can help babies who are premature and those with disabilities too, improving muscle tone and stimulating growth hormones.

Where to Enjoy Baby Massage For hundreds of years many other cultures have been routinely massaging their babies. As baby massage gains popularity in the UK, the number of places where you can go along and learn how to massage your baby is increasing - baby clinics, children's centres, complementary therapy clinics and independent instructors. Some offer drop-in sessions while others will 20

run a short course. You'll usually be shown how to do some gentle strokes and a short routine that you can do at home. You'll need to take along a towel and a spare nappy. Your baby will probably want a feed and a nap afterwards and most places will provide refreshments for you and time to chat to the other parents. Group classes have the added benefit of meeting other parents and sharing experiences as well as offering the opportunity to learn more about your baby. The International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) offers specialist training for instructors and promotes the benefits of baby massage. Chosing an instructor certified with the IAIM ensures that you are benefiting from IAIM’s 30 years of teaching experience. Your local IAIM Certified Infant Massage instructor is Anne-Marie Barnes.
