Those We Honor The awards presented at this ceremony honor many individuals who are part of Millersville University's history. The following former and present faculty, administrators, students and friends, or in some cases their family members, are among those who have been recognized with awards and scholarships established in their honor. The individuals' years of service to the University are shown in parentheses. Joseph J. Abromaitis is professor of industry and technology emeritus. (1969-2002)

Anna E. Beyer (deceased) was a member of the 1940 graduating class and associate professor of education. (1945-1960)

African-American/Latino Scholarship was initiated and continues to be significantly funded by African-American and Latino alumni.

D. Luke and Elva W. Biemesderfer (both deceased) Dr. Biemesderfer, Class of 1917, was president emeritus, and served as president of the University (1943-1965). He received a Distinguished Alumni Award in 1971. Mrs. Biemesderfer, also Class of 1917, was a former president of the Campus Club.

Dora L. Andrulonis (deceased) was a friend of the University. Ralph and Judy Anttonen Dr. Anttonen retired as professor, chair, academic and student development, and director of the Exploratory Program in 2012. Judy Anttonen is a 1973 graduate with a B.S. degree and received a master’s degree in 1976. Affectionately and collectively known as “Doc and Mama Roc,” Doc was the advisor for the University radio station WIXQ. He received the Honorary Alumni Award in 2010. Judge and Mrs. Anthony Appel (both deceased) were strong supporters of the arts. The scholarship was established by their son, Andrew Appel, a friend of the University. Leo Ascher (deceased) was a Viennese composer. The award was established by Franzi Ascher-Nash, his daughter. The Leo Ascher Center for Operetta Music in Ganser Library was also established in his honor. Elizabeth H. Aston (deceased) was a member of the 1928 graduating class. The award was established in her memory by her grandson, Patrick Donan, a member of the 1985 graduating class. Erin L. and Thomas J. Baker Mrs. Baker is a member of the 2003 graduating class and Mr. Baker is a member of the 2002 graduating class and served as president of Student Senate. Thomas R. Baker (deceased) was a member of the graduating class of 1860 and on the science faculty of the Millersville State Normal School. (1867-1887) Guy Kurtz Bard (deceased) was a prominent Lancaster attorney who served as president of the Millersville State Normal School Board of Trustees. (1936-1939) Beth Ann Barry (deceased) was a member of the 1984 graduating class and a computer science major. The endowment was established by her husband, C. Clair McCormick, a former member of the Millersville University Foundation Board of Directors. Ann B. Barshinger is a friend of the University. Esther Herr Bear (deceased) was a member of the 1916 graduating class. Paul S. and Caroline Beideman Mr. Beideman is a member of the 1971 graduating class. Mrs. Beideman is a friend of the University.

Larry W. and Mariann Bishop Mr. Bishop was director of human resources at Millersville University. (1985-2000). Mrs. Bishop (deceased) was associate researcher in University Advancement (1986-2006). They along with their daughter, Karen Hilton, a member of the 2000 graduating class, are avid followers of Millersville University’s football and basketball programs. Grace Doan Bitler and Charles F. Bitler, Jr. Mrs. Bitler (deceased) and Mr. Bitler are friends of the University. Cora Catharine Bitner (deceased) taught at the Millersville State Normal School. The award was established by Harry Bitner, a member of the Class of 1900, in memory of his mother. Henry Franklin Bitner (deceased) was a teacher of science. (1886-1909) BSU/Allen-Coleman Award was named for Melvin Allen '69, associate professor of philosophy and executive director of the Civic and Community Engagement Research Project emeritus, and for Jennifer Coleman, a student who lost her life in an automobile accident in 1983. Richard and Elaine Blouse are both members of the 1967 graduating class. Elizabeth G. Botdorf (deceased) was a member of the 1922 graduating class. Dr. Lee E. and Laura H. Boyer (both deceased) Dr. Boyer was professor of mathematics emeritus. (1934-1957) Chip and Kathy Brabson Dr. Brabson is a member of the 1970 graduating class and served as president of the Millersville University Alumni Association from 2005 to 2007. Mr. Brabson is a friend of the University. Jean Bradel is associate professor of music emerita. (1978-2008) Mr. and Mrs. R. Clinton Hughes (both deceased) and their daughter, Kathryn Seaber, lauded Jean’s vocal career by establishing this endowment. A.G. Breidenstine (deceased) was professor of education and dean of instruction (1955-1966) and professor emeritus. J. Elvin Brenner (deceased) was a member of the 1909 graduating class. The scholarship was established by his grandson, Lyman R. Brenner, a member of the 1971 graduating class.
