I'm a 90's kid so I watched a lot of N'sync, Backstreet Boys, Usher, Michael Jackson, etc. Even if they are primarily musical artists, I loved how the dancing came hand in hand with their performances. Dance was so natural to them that it looked effortless. Not only were they talented but they were having fun, which is the most important part.

How did your background affect your style and choice of dance?

Growing up with older cousins, I was always exposed to what kind of music they listened to which was 90's RnB and hip hop. I've then grown closer to the genres as I matured and found artists I really like. I love the rnb and hip hop culture so when I discovered a world of dance performing to songs I really liked, I was instantly hooked.

What made you want to do this? For so long my only goal & focus was basketball. That had become my life, but with a complex & long journey from grade 12 to my 3 university years I decided to take time away from school & basketball in 2015 to focus on myself & my finances.

~\\\twa \' JiJ,

I figured with all of this free time on my hands & the uncertainty on where my basketball career would go next I decided to start writing to some beats off of YouTube. Eventually I had quite a few songs written & I made an impulse decision to call the first studio I found on google. Studio 11 popped up & the rest is history.

Where do you want to be in the future?

I want to be at the table with some of the greats that I looked up to growing up. I feel I share the same passion for really making good & meaningful music that people can genuinely rock with & understand.

I feel Canada is starting to get the recognition it deserves but mainly in Toronto so I feel I can open the worlds eyes through my music to the greatness that lives here in a much smaller market.

whether it's your voice or

your lyrical content & go on You Tube, find yourself some free beats to start with & just start writing to them. When you feel you have enough content to make the investment in yourself & your music & go book some studio time. Most rates are $50-$60 /hour so $100-$120 will get you a solid 2 hours to get your track done.

but if you keep repeating the writing & recording process you'll only get better. Once the music part is taken care of there's much more to the promo & business side of the game (copyrights, blog placements, pla~ist placements etc.) it's best t vb

-What is Victoria bringing to Winnipeg music scene and music in general? Sometimes it's like writing a song is the only way I can let an unwanted situation go with ease. There have been times in my life where I find myself in a notable situation, like where something has upset me and the only way I can fully get over it is to write about it. Writing a song about a situation also makes me feel

like I'm in

control.

By taking

something that

has caused

me pain or har

and turning it

into something

beautiful. I do

this in hopes

that it will

ultimately bring others around of relief and

• •

me a sense

,•

nderstanding

and a positive

energy. I

don't only write

about things

that have upset

me though, I

write about

simple and

lighter things as

well. To give

you an

example, I

wrote a whole

song about a

strange man

I saw on that

bus that looked

• •

like Alice

Cooper. I don't

hold myself to

one genre, I

write what I

feel and I feel

all kinds of

things. If you

were to ask

me what genre

best fit under

I would tell you

that my music

usually comes

out sounding

like a good

mix between

Blues Rock

and Folk.

5 basic preparations for writing your songs? My five steps to writing a song:

1. Come up with a chord progression that you vibe with then loop it. 2. Start singing a melody over top of it, only keep it if you're truly feeling it. If you're not feeling it, change your chord progression or change your melody! The melody should come easy, don't force it. If you're forcing it, it means you're not even enjoying it, and if you're not enjoying what you're singing, the listener won't enjoy what they're hearing. 3. Think of something that's been on your mind I, start talking about it, but sing what you' re saying. 4.lmprovise, be free and voice memo the whole thing so if you do something magic, you'll be able to go back and listen so you won't forget! Write down what you want to keep! Do this until you have two verses, a chorus and a bridge! 5. Once you've completed it, make all the revisions you need until you're happy with the outcome!

What is your common misconception? And what is Victoria's truth? A common misconception about me and my music is that I write all about romantic situations. Yes love and heart break are both strong feelings, and yes I do have songs about those things. But I have a lot that aren't as well. Again, I write whatever I feel and I feel a lot of different things. It is important to me that whatever I'm singing is true to me and those feelings and not morphed to fit someone else's idea of what sounds good. Even if something sounds good, if what I'm singing makes me feel uneasy I can't keep it. I sing and write because to me, it brings comfort and a sense of human connection. If what I'm singing doesn't do that for me or whoever's listening I doesn't feel rig ht.

icing to me is a lot of things. But it all ns down to one thing and for me, it's freedom of movement! Dancing can )resented in so many ways sometimes 1ost feel like I can do anything with it! ~ther it is to entertain, xperiment, to educate. >resented through )tions, shapes, music, hm! Nowadays it's even ,ver pictures, videos, and al media!! These things only possible because ¡e always evolving from 1ese ideas and we nect it with the freedom novement which for me, ::ince.But on an important i note, I also dance ause I love music,

did you find out you ~ance & figure out

style?

~stly when I was a little kid Jidn't know dance was :illy a thing, I was already 19 around whenever music was playing and always just connected with the ~y/ vibe of the music! As time passed, growing up I did my research with dance, inely made it an everyday thing for me to be dancing. I'm constantly introduced to s revolving dance like teams, battles, projects, competitions. Next thing I know, the e community is surrounded around me. But definitely without the music, I don't know else I would've found out! yle consistently continues to grow and change in many different ways, but I usually ny style through my phases of being into certain types of songs and dancers I :hed/learn from! I did start off as a tutor with a good chunk of isolations haha but now as a dance teacher/student, finding my style is an endless journey! As long as ~ exists and artists are creating, I don't think I'll ever stop dancing!

Which dancer did you grow up watching and wanting to be like? There's way too many crazy dancers that I personally inspire me and look up to nowadays, like being able to know all these creative talented movers exist is so much to take in. In a good way though! Now growing up I did have a go to person that inspired me to go further into dance! I started to look up dancing in YouTube and came across Pat Cruz and this was a long time ago when I was like finishing middle school going into highschool! I was amazed by how clean of a dancer he was and how effortless it almost looked so there I was trying to learn his dances off YouTube! As time passed while staying connected to the dance scene, I found out about another guy on YouTube that was insane with intention, musicality and textures! That was Brian Puspos! Such a big fan of that guys movement and to this day still inspires me! He kinda showed me how genuine dance can be with how he presented his creations! It's as if he made phr It's as if he made phrases come to life through movement and music interpreted precisely! These were the two that inspired me growing up, to the point where back then I totally wanted to be like them!

How did your background affect your style and choice of dance? Growing up and learning about dance, I realized that a lot of Filipinos around me were actually dancers! So that kinda made me a little more comfortable with not being shy to get deeper into the dance scene! Since I did grow up not being raised at a studio, I'm not trained in any other technical styles which is why when hip hop and urban choreography came around for me, I made sure I get the most out of it since it's the only style that I can pretty much expand on myself! Also I am very big on musicality and playing around with all types of sounds in my dances probably because before I got fully committed to dance, I often sing, beatbox, play drums, and just got along with rhythmic things

J I get put on a spot and you don't

want to get put on a spot and do trasK, so I had to get good at it. That is how I got to where I am right now. Freestyling I had to learn for melody and rhythm. I have always being around music. I grew up with my family. I have always being with church and gospel music and R&B and that's not a bad start especially when you are looking up to Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, Beyonce and Omarion. Those are the people I grew up on.

How did I fall in love with music? There is a song for every feeling and every emotion. At a time certain songs started to feel like they were written exactly for you and that's kinda how I fell in love with music.

Who is Lavi$h and how does the money sign relate to your name? Lavi$h is a songwriter, rapper, singer & a part time audio engineer. The money sign in my name represents my worth, which i believe is a lot. There's more to me than what you see on social media. Hopefully, my fans will get to see all the different attributes I possess as time goes..

-Do you have any particular song or artist that inspires you? Tory Lanez, Drake & Chris Brown truly inspire me. Tory inspires me because of the way he's able to go from genre to genre but still sounds like Tory. From the fashion, his different styles & his "ldgaf" but still humble attitude; I find a lot of inspiration in Tory. I can list a million reasons why Drake inspires me but the top one is the most important, his mentality. Being a celebrity and one of the top artists in the world right now it takes a toll on your mental state. He's able to stay level headed through all the bullshit people say about him. I've never seen him freak out & panic, I truly admire that. Now Chris Brown? That man is everything. A singer, a rapper, an artist, a dancer, a gymnast, a businessman, I can go on all day.. If you know me you know I keep a hand in a lot of things & you also know how much Breezy inspires me.

-Growing up did you aspire to be someone else and do you still aspire to be that person. Growing up I aspired to be everything, I've always wanted to do it all but lately music has been the #1 focus. I just feel like you shouldn't ever limit yourself to one thing .. Everything is "a rt'', everything. Why would I just want to draw a picture on a piece of paper when I can write a song and explain the picture, finish the song & then create a dance explaining the picture through my body? Art never stops.

-What should we expect from lavi$h

Absolutely the "impossible".
