Dear Delegates, Guests and Friends: Welcome to the fifth annual Miss California Latina and Miss Teen California Latina pageant. As state director, I am honored and proud to be apart of this exciting event. Through my work and devotion, I have committed myself to establishing this organization as one of leadership. Our mission is to empower women of Latin and Hispanic origin living in California while enabling them to embrace and showcase their Latina American culture and serve their community. We work to provide personal and professional opportunities for young women to express their viewpoints, talents and accomplishments. We extend our best wishes to each contestant in tonight’s pageant and a special thanks to their families and friends who have supported them through this journey. I am confident that this year’s state pageant will be an exciting and rewarding time for each one of our participants. Jomari Goyoso

Feared fashion critic, passionate, sensitive, rebellious, versatile and inspirational are some of the characteristics defining Jomari Goyso, host of “A La Moda con Jomari” for Primier Impacto on Univision. Born in Logrono, Spain, this dynamic hairdresser and make-up artist by trade, has worked with celebrity such as Naomi Campbell, Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek, Paz Vega, Kate de Castillo and Kim Kardashian. In the course of his career he has stood out in editorials and magazine covers such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Vanidades, Hola, People, InStyle and Marie Claire. Jomari has worked with L’Oreal for seven years and has unveiled his creations on entertainments most glamorous showcases such as, the Academy Awards, Golden Globes Awards, Italian Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival.

MARIA SANCHEZ Since an early age Maria knew she wanted to be a model. Growing up in the small city of Huelva, in south of Spain, Maria would travel over an hour to attend a modeling academy in Sevilla. She developed her portfolio at16 with dreams of a modeling career. Maria went on to compete in the Miss Spain pageant as Miss Huelva at the age of 18. She then moved to Los Angeles to study Broadcasting and has worked as a journalist covering several assignments for print and television. With modeling and fashion as her passion, Maria created her modeling agency “Exit Models”. Continuing with her entrepreneurial sprit, she has recently established and import/export venture with Spain.

Desiree Estrada

Los Angeles native Singer/Songwriter Desiree Estrada knew from an early age she wanted to pursue a career in music. Desiree’s professional career took off in 2009 when she joined the girl group “Kemistrie” and appeared on the nationally televised show B.E.T. 106 & Park . Based on their outstanding performance, the group appeared on the show once again in August 2010 where they were voted as “All Star Winners”. Their single “Love Me Hate Me” was then placed on the televised radio show “Music Choice.” Desiree had the pleasure of working alongside many other artists such as California Swag District, The Rejects, YG, Colbie O’Donis, Audio Push, Mann, to name a few.In July of 2011, Desiree officially announced she was going solo, working on her first album with songwriter/producer Leticia Ascencio. Desiree’s album “Kween Dez” features collaborations with many well-known songwriters. The album’s first single, “Te Dare”, was released to great reviews in the summer of 2012. The album’s second single will be released in early 2013. Desiree has performed during the opening ceremony of the Billboard Latin Music Conference and was named “Best Dressed” on the red carpet by Telemundo. She also recently opened for Latin superstar Jose Feliciano and made appearances at both the Latin Grammys and the ALMA awards.

WENDY ARMIJO, also known as TheIdeaGirl.com, works as a multi-media consultant. She started her career over two decades ago creating, producing, and marketing promotional events. After a successful stint in the promotions and PR industry she went on to start her first bilingual advertising agency in 1999. She later went on to found the first Spanish language Real Estate Magazine in Kern County. Working as a producer and writer of both television and radio commercials, her companies A & L Marketing and Advertising and A-Team Production have helped numerous businesses reach the lucrative and ever-increasing Latino market. Wendy enjoys spending her free time working as an advocate for non profits, as a board member for Kern Partnership For Children and Families and as board Vice President for the NAPW Kern County chapter. She has founded and continues to volunteers as an Event and Promotions Coordinator for the Mardi Gras Gala and Scary For Charity. TANISHA BRITO-CARTER combines her Christian faith and heart for young women into a new ministry she’s launched called, C.H.I.C – Committed to Him In Christ – a ministry for girls ages 13-18 with a focus on helping girls navigate through the ups and downs of this exciting time in their lives with a perspective set firmly on being in Christ. Tanisha has been featured on the cover of Points North Magazine in Atlanta for her work with Breast Cancer Awareness and in 2008, was named to Ebony Magazine’s prestigious “Top 30 Young Leaders under 30”. Competing in pageants is what has fostered Tanisha’s love of mentoring young women. A former Miss Connecticut, Tanisha competed in the Miss America pageant where she placed in the Top Ten. In 2005 Tanisha was crowned Miss Georgia USA and went on to compete in the Miss USA pageant. She has an undergraduate degree in Public Relations, an MBA in Marketing from Clark Atlanta University and is a Sr. Marketing Manager for Taco Bell Corporate. She currently resides in Orange County with her husband and their feisty little dog, Beethoven “B.R.” Rutherford. GUSTAVO GUTIERREZ is a multi-media and bi-lingual journalist in Los Angeles. For the last two years he worked for an international magazine called Padrisimo Magazine. His work has also been published in media outlets such as Neon Tommy, Patch, ATVN, USC and IMPACT. During the 2008 presidential campaign Gutierrez was accepted into the Washington Journalism Semester Program where he studied in Washington D.C. at American University. He covered the presidential election at the capital of the United States, Florida, Maryland and Virginia during a historic year. Currently, Gutierrez is contributing stories to Univision34.com and his work has been published on the news organization website. He is also a television host for a morning talk show called “The Toast,” which airs on a Trojan Vision, a cable channel. Gutierrez was named an “Orgullo Hispano” or Hispanic pride in English and featured on the front cover of the magazine, “Paloma Revista” in 2012, which gave recognition to his work and dedication to the field. MIKEY KOFFMAN, is a native Angeleno, is a tour de force in the burgeoning Los Angeles fashion industry. She got her start as the first female motorcycle shop owner in Long Beach. On the heels of the success of her clothing line, Koffman went on to assume the position of Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Da Nang Clothing and Stitch’s Jeans. Koffman then launched 575 Denim. In 2005 Koffman founded The Gallery Los Angeles, a full service marketing and event production company. After producing fashion shows in Los Angeles, New York, and Paris, Koffman assisted in the establishment of the official Los Angeles Fashion Week, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios. Koffman then launched Los Angeles Fashion Weekend and moved the location to Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood. Koffman also produces runway shows in conjunction with the Magic International tradeshow. Koffman was featured on the first season of the hit Showtime series, “The Real L Word,” and KTLA morning news segment “Thank God It’s Fashion”. ROBERT REYES was born in the Dominican Republic; he arrived to the United States in 1964. He is married to Rosa

Reyes and resides in his breathtaking vineyards in Agua Dulce, California, has three children and 10 grandchildren. Robert is passionate about everything he does; he is an artist and a winemaker at his award-winning Reyes Winery. In addition to being a Fine Art Painter, wine maker, and an experienced real estate and Stock Market investor, Robert holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in Global Management (MBA GM), holds a California General Contractor’s license, is a Los Angeles City Certified Welder/Fabricator, and is a Certified Dive Master. Robert was recently given the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award by the Santa Clarita Valley Latino Chamber of Commerce. In a book soon-to-be-released, Robert is referred to as “The Renaissance Man”.Robert is presently working on a series of vineyard paintings, which will soon be released and exhibited in the Reyes Winery Tasting room and through the Reyes Winery website.

AMADO C SALINAS II, was born in Harlingen, TX and graduated from Palm Springs High. He Joined the US NAVY and excelled as a Specialist in Advanced Avionics and Communications System & Support. Upon returning from overseas Operation “Desert ONE” Theater, he became part of HUGHES Aerospace & Communications Research and Development Team, as a Aerospace Engineer. Mr. Salinas is on he Board of Directors for Trinity Tech Media, Inc. a Mobile Platform technology Company, and Owner of a few Private Businesses. He consults on various projects from China to Africa, and recently was hired to be part of the development TEAM to assure FAA Flight Safety “Level A” verification for BOEING’s NEWEST addition to their FLEET “787- DREAMLINER”. Mr. Salinas also volunteers his time to support and establish Celebrity Golf events to raise funds for various NON-Profit and Charity Events.

CARLOS M. ANTÓN-KHURY is Director of Technical Operations for Comcast; the nation’s largest provider of video and high-speed data services. Previously, a manager in Verizon’s Fiber to the Premise. Mr. Antón also led a large operations responsible for deploying the latest fiber optic technology to residential customers and small businesses in the state of NJ. Antón worked on Verizon’s post 9/11 Disaster Recovery project and has held roles in Engineering, Finance, and Marketing in addition to prior work experience at Boeing and General Electric Power Systems. Mr. Antón graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Industrial Engineering and a minor in Political Science. He has been an active board member in such organizations as: SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers), FIRST (For the Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology), AYUDA for the Arts, and Repertorio Español. Most notably, Mr. Antón is President Emeritus of the New York City Professional Chapter of SHPE and a current Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity Trustee. Mr. Antón is a previous recipient of the SHPE’s prestigious “Most Promising Engineer/Scientist Award” 2000 and was recognized by Crain’s New York Business in 2006 as a “40 under 40” rising star. CANDACE CAGE currently is the Marketing Manager at Namaste Laboratories, makers of Organic Root Stimulator. With over 12 years in the marketing arena, she has managed multi-million dollar brands in various industries working with brands such as M&M’s, Snickers, Sears, Toyota, McDonalds and now ORS Olive Oil. Her proven talents are defeating challenges in ambiguous environments and developing winning teams. JOSHUA EDWARDS was born and raised in New York City and moved to Los Angeles six years ago to pursue a career in Talent Representation. He started out as an intern working for the Wayans Brothers. Since then he has gone on to work with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry including Britney Spears, Will Smith, Toccara, Ralph Macchio, Jennifer Connelly, Heather Graham, Cher, Richard Dreyfuss, and Steven McQueen. He currently is in the process of launching his own company “E-squared Entertainment.” Joshua is a licensed attorney in NY and CA and holds a law degree from CUNY School of Law and a MBA from Loyola Marymount University. PATRICIA STURLA lives in Los Angeles, California, where she is a regular contributor for beauty, fashion and image segments at major TV outlets including KVEA- Telemundo Los Angeles’ “Acceso Total” and KAZAAzteca America Los Angeles’ “Noticiero Azteca America.” Additionally, she recently launched “El ABC de la Moda,” a multi-platform weekly column published by leading Hispanic news and information company, Impremedia, including leading website Impre.com and Los Angeles’ top Spanish daily, La Opinion. She also conducts seminars and consults on matters related to fashion, entertainment and personal development. Patricia is the Founder and Director of Patricia Sturla Studios, a center for personal and artistic development with emphasis on acting, modeling, dance, singing and on-air voice talent. Since its inception in 1997, thousands of students have been a part of Patricia Sturla Studios. They include young actors, such as Ivan Angulo, who starred in “Seven Pounds” with Will Smith. Patricia, who served on the board of the Italian Committee in Los Angeles, has been recognized with the “Latin Woman of the Year” award from Univision Radio and was also named “Prestigious Personality of the Year” by “El Suplemento” Magazine. My Mom and Dad both work Really hard for me and my sister to give us the life we have now and I am Thankful for it everyday!. My mom works full time at home taking care of me and my sister, she takes us to school everyday and to our Activities we are involved in after school. My Dad owns an Auto Repair Shop and works full time on weekdays and even weekends. I love my parents very much I have no idea where I would be without them to guide me along the way. My older sister Celena who’s 18 years old supports me in everything I do, and also helps me along the way she is and always will be a great older sister I can count on.
