Retales de masonería – Nº 85 – Julio 2018 The deer symbolizes "Intuition", the final process of the transmutation of the "Instinct", whose intermediate stage is the "Intellect". These three words- Instinct, Intellect and Intuition-summarize the objective self-perception or the conscious aspect of the evolving human being. Although the sign under study is that of the Instinct, the sublimation of the Instinct is Intuition. The Intellect represents the cultural conquest that is acquired in different moments of life and that, after an adequate selection, must direct us to an inner development. The great need referred to in this labor by Hercules is the development of intuition and acquaintance with the instantaneous knowledge of Truth and Reality, which is a prerogative of vital importance in the life of a free initiate. We can attain the following teaching of this work: "The candidate does not succeed until he has transmuted the instinct into intuition, nor is there a correct use of the intellect while the intuition is not present to interpret and expand the intellect and produce the final result. Then the instinct is subordinated to both 10 ” Cancer, the crab, symbolizes the limitations of all physical incarnation. It is the door to the world of forms, to material life, and the sign where the duality "Form and Soul" are unified in the flesh. "The sign opposite to Cancer is Capricorn, and those two constitute the two doors, being one, the portal for the life of the form and the other the portal for the spiritual life; opening the portal to the form of the mass of the human family and the other to the state of universal consciousness, which is the kingdom of the Spirit. One marks the beginning of the human experience on the physical plane, the other marks its climax. One means potentiality and the other consummation 11 ” In short, in Cancer, the Soul descends to the earth to join the body, which constitutes its spiritual death; in Capricorn, the "portal of the Gods", it returns to heaven. In the New Testament there is a story that this symbolism can represent; when Jesus gives Peter the key of heaven and Earth, the keys of the two main zodiacal portals, the solstitial points of Cancer and Capricorn, also known as "Portal of the Sun" and "Portal of the Gods". The Crab lives both in the water and on Earth. That is why it symbolizes the Soul trapped in the Physical body, but predominantly living its emotional nature, its sensations, whose symbolic representation is water. Esoterically, Cancer is ruled by the Moon, the eternal mother of forms, which controls the waters and the seas. The well-known "Cross of the Initiate", or "Cardinal Cross", has one of its arms in Cancer. Another arm in Aries, the symbol of the beginning, of the start, of the subjective life, of the prenatal stage, or involution, and also of the first step, either to assume the form or for the spiritual liberation. The third arm is Libra, the balance, "the choice between", "the beginning of the path..." Capricorn is the fourth arm, again the birth, the birth of the "savior of the world", birth for the spiritual world, birth that leads out of the material world, into the world of "being" Involution, incarnation, expression and inspiration are the four words that express the history of the "Cardinal Cross". In reality, it is the history of the Spirit of its creation, descending in the different Realms, ascension and liberation of the cycle of incarnations. There are no stars or constellations that stand out in the sign of Cancer. With the eighty-three stars that compose it, being the brightest of the third magnitude, it is exactly at its center that we find larger agglomerate known as "Presepio" or also as "Hive". This designation symbolizes the collective organization of the human family, one of the reasons why Cancer is considered a sign of mass; it is the instinct that rules the mass, which is why it is considered the sign of instinct, of life in a flock, of the reaction of the mass. It represents the subconscious mind, the hereditary instinct and the collective imagination. 10 11
