Repton School ISI Inspection 2020 - Key Findings

From the Headmaster I am delighted to confirm the results of the Independent Schools Inspectorate Report following their visit in March of this year. The Report itself comprises two sections; the first relating to matters of Regulatory Compliance, including Boarding, and the second to Educational Quality (the EQI Report). In the first section, the Inspectors conclude that we are compliant, meeting the regulations in all respects. There is no grading system, only a simple judgement of compliance or non-compliance. This judgement follows an exhaustive analysis of documentation, interviews with governors, staff and pupils, tours and observation of how policy is put into practice in all areas of the School. The Educational Quality Inspection examines two areas, Achievement and Personal Development. In broad terms, this can be distilled into academic and pastoral matters but, as we know in focusing on the wholeness of a Repton education, these two factors in the growth of a pupil are so often mutually dependent. Again here, the judgement was based on parental surveys, pupil and staff interviews, lesson observation and scrutiny of pupils' work.

In both Achievement and Personal Development, Repton was awarded 'Excellent', the highest grade it is possible to achieve. To have what we know to be true - what we see around us on a daily basis in our pupil body - confirmed by this ISI Report is an important moment. A Repton education is not only safe and ordered; it is a happy experience of the highest quality. I commend this Report to you and I am indeed proud to be the Headmaster of such a truly excellent school.

Mr Mark Semmence Headmaster
