Frank Lloyd Wright once said that “nature is the inspiration for all ornamentation”. As a designer, my ultimate goal is to create sustainable spaces that foster the connection and co-existence between humans and the surrounding natural environment.

Farm Sanctuary Watkins Glen, New York
Farm Sanctuary fights the disastrous effects of animal agriculture on animals, the environment, social justice, and public health through rescue, education, and advocacy. My design concept centers around Farm Sanctuary’s mission and desire to encourage and promote the connection and co-existence between humans, animals, and the planet. It was my mission to design a space for visitors to feel fully immersed in the surrounding natural environment on the current site located in Watkins Glen, New York. Visiting Farm Sanctuary should be an impactful and memorable experience that encourages individuals to direct their lifestyles in a more sustainable and compassionate way. The ultimate goal in the design is to exemplify their mission statement of “pursuing bold solutions to end animal agriculture and foster just and compassionate vegan living”.

“Whether we’re teaching a classroom of young minds about the perils of animal agriculture through our humane education program; explaining the truth behind humane labels during a tour at one of our Sanctuaries; or delivering a message of love and compassion for farm animals to millions of people weekly through our social and traditional media campaigns, we believe that education is key to creating change in the world.”

Paris, France
The Coterie City Club is located in the D2 Tower in Courbevoie, France. The design features Parisian influence, as Courbevoie is a suburb of Paris. The Coterie City Club’s name stems from the intention of creating an intimate and high-end gathering experience for individuals. The French word, “coterie” literally means “an intimate and often exclusive group of persons with a unifying common interest or purpose.” The designed spaces include the lobby, bar/lounge area, presidential dining, and the member’s suite. The additional placed spaces include the kitchen, private dining, offices, and member apartments.

Haven Residence Veteran Housing
Utilized: Revit 2021, Enscape, Adobe Photoshop
group collaboration The Haven Residence, located in downtown Charleston, South Carolina is intended to be a safe space for veterans to reside. The industrial facility was designed using a muted, earth-based color palette to create a peaceful, yet engaging environment that eases and discourages symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The residence was also designed in compliance with the needs of COVID-19. Circulation paths are wider, gathering spaces are larger, and creative uses of vegetation as subtle partitions encourage physical distancing, while still allowing safe socializing. Additionally, copper fixtures and anti-microbial paint were chosen to decrease both bacterial and viral transmissions through commonly touched surfaces.

“Impact” Sculpture In 2011, Greenville established the Green Ribbon Advisory Committee in an effort to promote sustainabilty and reduce Greenville’s negative environmental impact. This sculpture was designed in an effort to remind and keep the Greenville community accountable for their sustainable intentions. The Peace Center was chosen as the location for this sculpture due to its high traffic volume. The sculpture, “Impact” was designed as an abstracted representation of earth filled with human-created waste. It serves as a reminder that each individual makes an impact on the earth and its wellbeing. “Impact” aims to teach mindulfulness and promote sustainability.

The goal of this project was to design an addition for the Johnston building, which houses the interior design department, on Anderson University’s campus. Our addition was a greenhouse that would allow a natural environment accessible to all design students. Studies have shown that plants have positive effects on both physical and mental health. Taking this research, we decided providing a greenhouse for a mental and physical break would be a great addition to this building where students often spend a great deal of hours couped up inside.

Retail Perspective
The Alma Yoga Studio is located in Manual Antonio, Costa Rica. This studio was designed consciously as a healthy and safe space for all. The name of the studio was chosen purposefully as “alma” translates to “soul”. The mission of Alma Yoga Studio is to allow space for each individual to find both self-awareness and environmental awareness. The designed spaces in the studio include a check in area, a cafe and juice bar, a retail space, locker rooms, and two large yoga studios that can open completely to the outside environment. The yoga studios open to nature to promote grounding and connection to the earth.

Taste of Nature
Plant-Based Cafe
Taste of Nature, a modern plant-based cafe, is located in St. Kilda, Australia. This cafe is owned by Sister of Soul, another plant-based cafe that has locations in both St. Kilda and Richmond, Australia. Surrounding environments can have a big impact and influence on an individual’s health. So, Taste of Nature incorporates lots of biophilic design and utilizes loads of natural light during the day with LED lights that are used in the evening. Taste of Nature’s mission is to strive to connect guests to nature while serving them indulgent healthy and sustainable food and drinks.
