Are you enamored of the retro-futuristic look of steampunk? Do you fancy yourself a Victorian-era dandy? Perhaps swashbuckling airship pirates are more your thing. Either look will do at this weekend’s Victorian Steampunk Ball. This year’s theme is “Pirates Invade the Comstock.” The preball activities start with a group dinner at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, at Mustang Ranch Steakhouse, 5 N. C St., followed by a ghost tour of Virginia City. Dinner tickets are $32.50 and limited to 40 people. The ghost tour starts at 8 p.m. at the Silver Queen Hotel and Saloon, 28 N. C St. Tickets are $12 and limited to 25 people. The party gets underway at noon on Saturday, Sept. 19, with the Steampunk Ball Parade. See art cars, animals, entertainers and other parade participants in creative steampunk fashions as they sashay down C Street. Later that evening, Asha World Dancers will present the third annual Doctor Belladonna’s Swashbuckling Soirée. a vaudevillian-style spectacular featuring Jill Marlene, Reno World Dance Collective, Hipswitch Belly Dance and other local artists. The show begins at 6 p.m. at Piper’s Opera House, 12 N. B St. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The Victorian Steampunk Ball will finish the day’s festivities with a performance by local bluegrass band Strange on the Range and contra dance caller Barbara Smith of Houston, Texas.
