2010 RACE PROGRAM

June 2010 Lake George, NY

Dear Racers & Volunteers – The 2010 North Country Triathlon is here! Whether you are racing, volunteering, or cheering we are ready for you. Everyone involved with hosting this race has deep roots in the Hague area of the Adirondack mountains and we love showing off the beauty and challenging terrain of our corner of the world. After all, it gives each of us an excuse to be at Lake George too! Those who first settled these rugged Adirondack Mountains had strength, courage, and determination, the same qualities each of our triathletes bring to this event. As a racer I know well the commitment each person puts forth to prepare for a race as challenging as ours. We thank you for choosing our event and in return we at the NCT commit to providing an event that rewards your training and travel efforts with beautiful scenery, hospitality, and a course that we’d like to race ourselves! We need more than racers to have an event though. The men and women that bring their talent to the NCT by volunteering are the real heart and soul of the event. They will be working to prepare the course and facilities for weeks before the race begins – many of their shifts working at the race will outlast every racer’s time spent on the course. Racers, I have a challenge for you, try to thank every volunteer you see out there. Without their efforts we simply could not make this event happen. Give ‘em a smile and a “Thanks for being here” every chance you get; they deserve it! As the race director for the 2nd year I’ve carefully reviewed the comments from racers and volunteers and we’ve made some changes to this year’s event to maximize the safety of our racers, volunteers, and emergency personnel. Both bike routes have been tweaked, water stop locations optimized, and the post-race party has been moved to the event site to make sure all can share their race stories of the day! Thanks to our incredible network of sponsors and volunteers for another year of support, encouragement, and participation! John Hartley, Race Director

Who you are helping Your participation in the North Country Triathlon helps raise money and awareness around our charity partner The Hope Lodge of Burlington. North Country Triathlon contributes a significant portion of it’s race proceeds directly to the Hope Lodge. North Country founder, Randy Engler chose The Hope Lodge because of the amazing work they do providing a place to stay for patients while receiving treatment at Fletcher-Allen in Burlington, VT. Additionally, roughly 70% of the patients using The Hope Lodge come from Upstate New York. This is North Country’s way of giving back. Please join North Country in support of the Hope Lodge and contribute to the Hope Lodge by contacting them directly, or by sending a check made out to The Hope Lodge - Burlington to: Randy Engler: North Country Triathlon P.O. In memory of Bill “Bo” O’Leary Very sadly Bo O’Leary passed away this spring. He was the swim part of team “Two White Heads And A Chick” with Sandy Swanson (runner) and Steve White (biking). Recalled as being one of the funniest men ever, Bo’s absence is greatly felt by his teammates and Hague. We all miss him very much.

Sustainability North Country Events promotes challenging, multi-sport events designed to have the greatest impact on healthy life-styles and the least amount of impact on the environment. From the cups used at our aid stations (100% recycled content and compostable) to the napkins used at our pre-race pasta dinner, North Country Triathlon is committed to doing it’s part to build races that are about healthy people and healthy environment.

We have also teamed up with 1% FOR THE PLANET because we believe that the sustainability of the natural environment is fundamental to the sustainability of business. 1% FTP recognizes that industry and ecology are inherently connected. It’s about realizing the positive effects of connecting businesses, consumers and non profits through philanthropy. And it’s about understanding that the true cost of doing business can be mitigated by a simple pledge to the planet.
