Community Teddy bear drop-off depots set up JOHN CARTER john.carter@metroland.com Miss Teen Canada International contestant Delaney Holley of Renfrew is well on her way to collecting the 2,000 teddy bears needed for her to enter the pageant. As of June 22, Holley has collected 1,100 stuffed animals with the help of local students and businesses. She has also raised $1,200 toward the $4,000 needed to ship the teddy bears to Uganda as part of the Teddy Bears for Hope campaign. Holley, a St. Joseph’s Catholic High School student, is competing in the pageant in August as the newly named Miss Teen Ottawa 2009. She has set up Teddy Bears and Toonie collection depots at local schools as well as at Aikenhead’s Drug Store, the Bear’s Den and John A. Burnett Farm Equipment for contributions. People can also help by donating teddies and/or toonies at three fundraisers Holley has organized over the next couple of weeks. There will be a yard sale this Saturday, June 27 from 7 to 11 a.m. at 53 Grahame Ave. at the bottom of Thompsonhill; a bake sale during the Renfrew Canada Day Delaney Holley is surrounded by some of the 1,100 stuffed animals she has celebrations July 1 at Ma-Te-Way Park, and a car wash and barbecue Saturday, July collected so far for the Teddy Bears of Hope campaign.
