Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States, and is a leading cause of serious long-term disability. New advances in medicine can reduce the effects of a stroke if they’re given to the patient as soon as the stroke symptoms occur. Getting to the hospital immediately can greatly improve one’s chances for recovery and decrease the effects of the stroke. Rehabilitation after a stroke is important to help regain lost function and improve independence. Inpatient rehabilitation programs are typically the first step in the recovery process. The Rehabilitation Center of Thibodaux Regional, located in Thibodaux, has an acute care hospital-based rehabilitation program that provides intensive therapy, such as physical, occupational and speech therapy as well as medical management involving a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. The Center has Stroke Specialty Accreditation by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
