ADVERTORIAL

40 years of success at Yarm This year Yarm School is celebrating its 40th anniversary. It has become a major educational success story in the North East since its foundation in 1978. Yarm School is one of the region’s top performing schools whose GCSE and A Level results are consistently the best in the area. In the first year of linear A Levels, 20% of exams taken resulted in A* grades, 53% A* or A grades and more than three-quarters attained a B grade or better. Compared to the North East average, students at Yarm were 3 times more likely to achieve an A* at A level. EMPLOYABILITY Our aim is simple: to provide our pupils with a wide range of opportunities to develop their personal skills and the confidence to move on to university and into the world of work. The school believes strongly in the value of sport, music and drama, as well as academic achievement and offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities, all of which are nurtured by specialist teachers from Nursery through to Sixth Form. The opportunities offered by Yarm School develop pupils’ interpersonal and leadership skills ready for today’s competitive employment market. From coding Apps at the Prep School to Sixth Form students taking a lead by organising lunchtime

lectures, all extra-curricular activities develop the ‘soft-skills’ sought by top employers. A LEVEL INCREASED TEACHING TIME At a national level, the linear A Level system means grades are now awarded purely on the basis of examinations taken at the end of Year 13, which will assess content from the entire two year course. In light of the changes to A Levels Yarm School took the decision to adapt its curriculum to provide increased contact time for each subject – by up to 20% more teaching per A Level subject. This proactive decision has been one important factor contributing to this year’s fantastic results.
