Our recycled weather protection collection

Recycled Polyester

Recycled polyester reduces our consumption of newly produced petroleum based products. Our recycled polyester is made from PET bottles and waste material. Cloth made from recycled polyester has a reduced effect on the environment by using less water, electricity and crude oil. Management of discarded clothing and other polyester based material is reduced which is positive for the planet.

Polyester is an important fibre in our products. It allows us to create light fabrics that dry quickly and can be used in all manner of diverse clothing. Recycled polyester has been around since the early ’90’s and recent developments have allowed it to be more generally accessible and prices have begun to be comparable to its more conventional counterparts. Using it reduces our dependence on petroleum as a raw material as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Another plus is that we use material, that would otherwise be burned or end up in a land-fil. We reduce waste at the same time as we reduce usage of crude oil.

Recycled Nylon

Our recycled nylon is produced from industrial waste and discarded nylon-based products. Nylon is one of the strongest threads that we use in our products. When we need a light weight fabric it is important to use nylon for its durability. On top of its ecological friendliness, the recycled nylon fibres are strong, light and sustainable. Our eventual goal is to cease using conventional nylon, and recycled nylon will allow us to continue creating some of our favourite garments that will to live up to our high quality standards. Using as much recycled nylon as possible reduces our dependence on fossil fuels. Recycled nylon uses less resources (like water, energy and fossil fuels) than manufacturing conventional nylon, but has the same lightness and durability. By using this material we can reduce the enormous amounts of waste that discarded garments create and, at the same time, reduce the production of greenhouse gases. It also helps to support new recycling streams for nylon products that are no longer viable. In 2020 we will introduce our first jacket with an outer layer of 100% recycled nylon.

Shell jackets

A shell jacket’s function is to protect you from wind, rain and external weather. It should also integrate with your other layers of clothing by releasing moisture.

A.B.T. Advanced Breathing Technology is a breathable material that is both light and flexible as well as wind and water proof. .

SOFTSHELL

Matterhorn softsheljackets are made of three layers. A membrane that is laminated between the outerfabric and the innerfleece. This allows the garment to be wind proof whilst allowing water vapour from condensation and perspiration to escape. It keeps you warm and dry in virtually any kind of weather.

This symbol appears to indicate which products are available in women’s sizes or are purely aimed at women.

PRODUCT INDEX

Nano-Tex is a coating that makes a material resistant to water, spills and stains. This spill-resistant function keeps the garment fresh and, if you do get a stain, easier to clean. All this with no comprimise when it comes to comfort.

Our seams are taped from the inside with a thin band to prevent water penetration. An important detail in a water proof garment

PRODUCT CARE

Your garment will give you years of service if you follow the care instructions on the label. Always wash jackets separately having first removed the fleece/softshell lining. Always use a mild washing powder at the correct temperature shown in the garment. Our waterproof clothing should be re-impregnated with a substance designed for “breathable” materials available in sports shops. Fleece/softshell clothing should be allowed to ‘drip-dry’.

We do not own or run our own factories, our products are made by manufacturors,largely in China, with whom we have had a long-running working relationship.We insist that our partners commit to following our ethical code.

For us at Matterhorn quality is more than just a good jacket or fleece. Quality for us is as much about the team that makes our products working under safe, fair,legal and humane conditions. It’s about continually searching for new environmentally friendly materials, energy-saving production methods and possibilities to improve our world through our daily work!

Everything we do impacts nature around us and everone who lives there. We are convinced that we can continue to do what we are doing today, but in an improved way. We have many exciting opportunities, huge challenges and unending work ahead of us. For example, in 2015/16 we started to impregnate our garments with PFC-free waterproofing. And now we are launching our fleece made from totally recycled materials including, amongst other things , old PET bottles.

The OEKO-TEX® mark is your guarantee that the garment does not contain dangerous substances. OEKO-TEX® follows the restriction guidelines for ph-value, pesticide and heavy-metal levels.

Bionic-Finish Eco is a water-resistant coating that we have been using on our shell and wet-weather clothing since the autumn of 2016.

It is fluoro-carbon, formaldehyd and parafin free, substances that are used in more conventional production.

Fluoro-carbons have revealed themselves to be disruptive to hormone production. Bionic-Finish Eco is totally free from these substances.
