OSEBERG blanket Article number: 7182005 Size: 90 x 130 cm The Oseberg find The Oseberg ship was found in the summer of 1904 during the excavation of a grave mound at Tønsberg in Vestfold County, south of Oslo. The excavation uncovered a sensational and rich Viking grave. The ship received its name after the farm where the burial mound was located - Oseberg. The burial mound was the final resting place of two powerful women who died in the year 834 AD. The women were buried in a hightly decorated Viking ship together with grave goods associated with both ships and farming. The objects include equipment used in cooking and riding as well as a magnificent wooden sledge, a wagon and five carved wooden sculptures of animal heads. In addition, 15 horses, 6 dogs and 2 cows were buried with the women. All of these objects and animals were provided for the afterlife.
