n the fall of 2020, while conducting ongoing vegetation management work, East Bay Regional Park District staff noticed significantly more dead and dying trees than they had seen in past years. In some areas, half of the trees
were either dead or showing signs that they would die within a year. In response, the Park District reached out to experts at UC Berkeley, the U.S. Forest Service, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and others for information about the affecting trees regionally and statewide.
