Things to consider for choosing material handling equipment Materials management is one of the most important parts of business. It is actually described as the movement, relocation or storage of a fixed facility within a larger area of operation. Generally, the process involves heavy loads, which is why it needs to rely on equipment that can handle new or used materials. When choosing a material handling equipment available from Reflex equip, one should be able to understand the category in which the item falls. There are different categories depending on the content management needs of a particular business establishment. Take a look at some of the most common issues. Transport equipment It is a class of content management tools that is popular in a number of industries. Generally, it is responsible for transporting materials from one place to another. A typical example is the transfer of materials between workplaces. Major subcategories are for transportation material handling equipment, including conveyors, industrial trucks, and cranes. Examples of conveyors are chute, wheel, roller, chain, slat, flat belt, magnetic belt, bucket and screw conveyors. Examples of industrial trucks are arm, platform and counterbalanced lift trucks and pallet jacks. As far as cranes go, jib, bridge, stacker and gantry cranes are popular choices. Status device It is a type of material handling equipment used to hold materials in place for proper machining, transportation and later handling. This is favoured by industries where materials are handled within the workplace. Common examples are lift tables, dock levellers, ball transfer tables, part feeders, air film devices, manipulators, hoists, and balancers. Unit load forming equipment When looking for used material handling equipment that falls under this category, one must be able to see if the machine unit meets the load design objectives. This type of equipment limits the number of units that can be loaded. Some examples include pallets, skids, tote pans, pallet boxes, bins, cartons, crates, intermodal containers, and palletizes. Other Tools Categories There are still two more main categories for used material handling equipment, namely storage and detection and control equipment. Storage equipment is used to store, hold or buffer material for a specific period of time. The most common machines found in this category are selective pallet racks, flow-through racks, pushback racks, sliding racks, and stacking frames. As for inspection and control equipment, machines are used to collect information and coordinate the flow of materials within a facility. Bar codes, radio frequency tags, magnetic stripes, machine vision, and portable data terminals are popular examples.
