CHAPTER 1: THE VICTORIA LINE

INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

When I lived in London, this is the line I most frequently took because my nearest station was Victoria, and this line is convenient for getting around central London. Although the trains are old and quite loud, it is a compromise for the speed of getting you from A to B. It goes from Brixton to Walthamstow Central. Brixton station is an interesting place and is located quite centrally in Brixton, directly opposite the department store, Morley's, which I have been many times, because it is so easy to get to from Victoria. Stockwell is a decent station but it is near a Lidl which I always used to go to get a Chipwich, which are amazing from the lidl (the one thing lidl is amazing for, aldi is so much better). Vauxhall has a nice location by the river near a nandos, which is usually filled up at lunchtime because it is quite small. Vauxhall does give you access however, to a lovely riverside walk to Lambeth. Pimlico is quite a small station with a coffee shop, which for some reason is usually not open, it is quite a basic station and is ok. Victoria is quite a nice station, it has a nice range of coffee shops and access to the circle and district lines, I would however like to have it as a bigger hub of lines. In Green Park you can change for Jubilee and Piccadily line which is good and it is a pretty average station otherwise, but it does have great access to Green Park. The next station is Oxford Circus which I have got off at a few times and is good in a pinch, if you don't want to change to the Piccadilly line and go to Picadilly Circus. I do, however like the architecture of this station, I am fond of those nice light brown tiles. Next we have Warren Street, I have gotten off there a few times and didn't really seem anything special, but one thing I did like is the big entryway, which is good for big crowds of commuters, so the station does not get too overcrowded, I once sheltered there from the rain, and it has a big capacity. I have never been to the underground station at Euston, but from pictures it seems like nothing special, I do like the silver sign in the national rail station at Euston though. Kings Cross St Pancras, this is the station where the most lines in the London Underground go through, Victoria, Circle, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly and the Hammersmith and City line. These are the train stations I frequently use when I am travelling in and out of London. They recently gave it a refurbish and it is really nice now, they have nice clean walkways to platforms and everything is well signposted and well connected, this is a really nice station. Next, we have Highbury and Islington, which is a nice station with a Black Sheep Coffee, the sign of an up and coming district, just a nice station connected to national rail and Overground. Finsbury Park is where my cousin used to live and I would use this station because it was quite close to her house, it is also opposite an M&S, great option if you don't feel like cooking. The station itself is not the most attractive on the outside but the inside is fine and it is also near a Gail's, I know I keep talking about food, but it is handy to know, also I love talking about food. If you feel like indulging in a bougie £5 small but delicious chicken sandwich, then go to Gail's. Seven Sisters, is quite ugly on the outside and the inside, definatly not one I would like to use regularly. Tottenham Hale has a nice selection of artworks on the platform, and that is the only vaguely attractive bit about this station.

Blackhorse Road is quite standard, but it does have quite a nice picture of a horse which is pretty good. And last, we have Walthamstow Central, whenever I sit on the Victoria line, I just

think, what is it like at Walthamstow Central?

Well, I stil have never been (I might make it a day trip soon though!) but from pictures the station looks quite nice, I like a lot of glass and a lot of light let in which this station has, and it is also in a round shape which I like as well. That concludes all of the stations of the Victoria line, I was to give this line a score out of 10 across all of its stations, I would give it a solid 7/10, a good reliable and quick line.
