Amanda Hoskin Solo Exhibition
The paintings for this solo show have developed in a very natural way with one leading happily to another. At the start one always has a variety of ideas but often the collection will take on its own personality and this is always an exciting way to work. Ideas flow and as an artist it is fantastic to just see where the creative journey takes you. My work is becoming increasingly more painterly as I not only love the landscape and find it an inspiration but l really enjoy the process of using and manipulating the oil paint, l am fascinated by the many ways it can be used, its versatility is limitless. The rich creamy quality of the paint is ideal to build depth and drama as with the rocks, foreground, flowers or sea, but the subtle quality of snow or night scenes can be created by glazes, building soft quiet colours. It is wonderful and l really do get immersed in the whole activity of painting, losing all track of time, the world becomes just you and the picture, with me aiming to get my feelings for the landscape onto the canvas. I hope with this show l have managed to create paintings that give tribute to my real joy of the landscape and the painting process. Amanda Hoskin, 2021
