Cranbourne Football Club

A fantastic day at Casey Fields last week, where we hosted Hampton Park and unfurled our two premiership flags from 2016. Our Under 19A & B kicked off proceedings and with the new structure of the U19 comp we believe it’ll have a positive impact and provide great opportunities for teams to find their right level and compete in the second half of the season. As was predicted, our A’s completed a comfortable win against our B’s but credit to the B’s as they didn’t lie down all game. For the A’s the best were Callum White, Bailey Buntine, Corey Ellison, Nick Russo, Aiden Gajanovic and Cooper Reilly. For our B’s, Hayden’s Murphy and Bower were very good, as was Harkireth Calais, Zachary Kais, Mitch Jelo and Jack Benham. Our B’s have a week off then play against Doveton at Hampton Park on Good Friday. The twos got off to a flyer and cruised to a 169 point win. Holty, Spud, Thommo, Birdy and Wettys all played well, as did young first-gamer Jordy Lamont who chipped in with 3 goals. The ones also had a comfortable victory as they came away with a 184 point win. HP were very competitive at times throughout the game but our boys put the foot down after a slowish start to run away comfortable winners. Best on the day were Cheekers, Waters, Moz and Dill Bass while first gamers Jayden Sullivan and Brad Bigaignon had terrific debuts as did Khaled Kandakji (Cyril) who finished the day with 7. Credit must go out to Hampton Park FC as they managed to pull together two sides when as recently as four weeks ago, the club was on its knees contemplating its future. To Mick, Tim, Dean and others responsible for getting the teams on the park, we dip our lids for all your hard work. Obviously this week will become a lot tougher as we travel to Berwick and we can quickly be put back in our places if the focus isn’t right. After the game, we are holding our first club function at the rooms, kicking off at 7:30. See the flyer for details and we look forward to catching you all back at the rooms for what will be a fun night. And with Easter next week, we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday period and look forward to seeing you all the following week when we take on Tooradin at home. Go Eagles!!

BEACONSFIELD 52 V BERWICK 40 What a great day of netball for both sides as the netballers took their games to new levels with the traditional ‘Battle of the Creek flowing over to the courts. Beaconsfield got into their rhythm against their old foes early and established a 10 goal lead. The game was a lot closer than reflected on the scoreboard, with the Wickers failing to capitalise on every opportunity. The Eagles managed to keep the high intensity going and extend their lead to 7 goals by halftime. Berwick’s endeavour never waived they just weren’t able to close the gap against their experienced opponents. Beacy looked impressive playing a free flowing style allowing their goal shooters the best opportunity to score. To Berwick’s credit they never stopped trying although Beacy found themselves in front pushing their lead out to 12 points to win the game.

CRANBOURNE 50 V HAMPTON PARK 33 In conditions that made it difficult for both teams it was important for teams to settle and stick to their game plans. As like most sports the build up to Round 1 is enormous and it can take a while for new players to adapt to the new competition. Cranbourne is a team on the rise, they didn’t recruit as heavily as other sides but will rely on their brilliant core of players to move up the ladder. Cranbourne’s quick ball movement and transitional play setup great opportunities to score. The Eagles got the jump on the Redbacks and setup an unsurmountable lead. Hampton Park will be a team that improves as the season grows, with many new faces it will take a while for them to bed down the new game style and structures as the Eagle ran away with a confidence boosting win by 17 goals.

DOVETON 44 V ROC 48 The closest game of round one was between Doveton and ROC, which was interesting as you can expect both teams to be jostling for ladder

position towards the end of the season. The Kangaroos welcomed back a group of talented netballers which will add depth and experience to a young group. ROC has always been a strong club with a plethora of junior talent in their squad, while Doveton have brought in experienced coach Liz Edwards to steer the ship. The outcome was crucial for either team to start the season on the right foot. It was a ferocious contest with neither team willing to give up an inch with the margin between both sides staying relatively close. The conditions ensured that the team who reduced turnovers and could maintain fluent ball movement was going to take away the win. It was a tremendous spectacle as the game went down to wire with the effervescent Kangas getting the hop at the vital time to win by 4 points.

TOORADIN 66 V PAKENHAM 23 In the most one-sided match of the season opener, it was the Gulls who looked impressive in every aspect of their play. The girls from Westernport Oval appear to have taken their game to new heights. It’s an amazing feat considering the same side was unable to win a game during the 2015 season. The introduction of Kelly Haynes as senior coach has seen a major overhaul on how the Tooradin Netball sides conduct themselves as a club, with better structures in place and the addition of some experienced players has the Gulls looking to improve on their 5th placing from last year and they have started their new campaign in fine style. The Gulls dominated from start to finish, applying pressure when without the ball and appear to have a game style which will cause problems for most sides. For Pakenham it was always going to be a work in progress with many off court changes providing an opportunity for the new breed of Lionesses to step up and take their chance at senior level and we should see an improved performance as the season continues. This doesn’t take away anything from Tooradin’s dominating performance winning by 43 goals.

BERWICK (7TH 0-1) V CRANBOURNE (2ND 1-0) Cranbourne come into the contest off a great first-up win against Hampton Park. The Eagles showed great poise and through their ball movement were hard to stop. We know the top few players at Cranbourne are some of the best in the league and if they can find some consistency in their game they could be a team to watch. Berwick weren’t disgraced against the classy Beaconsfield side and will get a lot of confidence going into their second match of the season. Berwick are a work in progress and should improve as the season progresses. Cranbourne to win by 15 goals.

BEACONSFIELD (3RD 1-0) V TOORADIN (1ST 1-0) This shapes as a great contest between two sides who have shown some great early season form. Tooradin’s rapid improvement and have quality experienced players at their disposal and will be looking forward to the contest against their fancied rivals. Beaconsfield will enjoy the fact they get to play their second home game in a row and will use this to their advantage. Beaconsfield will also be bolstered with confidence as some familiar faces slotted straight back into position and will be ready to play on Saturday. This game could go down to the wire and is a tough one to call but Beacy might have a slight edge in class. The Eagles by 4 goals.

ROC (4TH 1-0) V NARRE WARREN (5TH 0-0) ROC were impressive in Round One defeating Doveton away but will need to be at their absolute best to stop the rampaging Narre Warren. Narre didn’t lose a game all season last year and it’s hard to see anyone getting a win early in the season. Narre have had a long pre-season showing some great form in the League Cup and will be primed to go against ROC. ROC will be competitive and will hope to capitalise on any mistakes from Narre, the opportunities will be few and far between as we have seen Narre can play faultless netball. Narre by 17 goals.

HAMPTON PARK (8TH 0-1) V DOVETON (6TH 0-1) This is another game which can have a big impact on how their seasons progresses, neither team will want to start their season with 2 loses which will ensure another close contest. Hampton Park have had a huge turnover of players at the top-end and it could take a while for the girls to gel and play at the standards set last season. Doveton were right in the contest against ROC but just fell short at the final whistle. This game could go either way, Hampton Park will enjoy having the extra week to prepare and play at home, while the Doves will want to build on the momentum from Round One. Doveton by 6 goals.

BERWICK & KNOXFIELD

“ Good luck to all teams for the 2017 season from Totally Workwear Knoxfield & Berwick.” Proud sponsors of the AFLSE.

A Grade started off with a 12 goal win for the “Battle of the Creek”. We welcomed new players in Emily Boribon, Ash Gill, Kate Murphy & Britnee Tyers & also welcomed Jasmine back. Taylah performed well in defence in her first game up from B Grade & Rylee looked right at home after getting some exposure to A Grade last year. Danielle was fantastic in defence & Bianca & Courtney utilised their height in the attacking circle. We did some great things across the court, but need to put together more consistent passages of play against Tooradin this week. Well done to Bianca on the Battle of the Creek medal for BOC. B Grade kicked off the season with a 31-50 goal victory. A vastly different team to season 2016 took to the court, with the girls building combinations each & every qtr. Our defence end was our strength throughout the game causing turnovers & taking a number of intercepts. Awards–Gabbi, Bec & Zoe. C grade started fast out of the blocks but slowed in the 2nd qtr, we managed to readjust for the 2nd half & kick away for the rest of the game with some clear movement through the midcourt. Congratulations to Molly for receiving the Battle of the Creek medal! Awards: Paris, Suzie & Jordan. D Grade gelled really well with some great passages of play, from defensive pressure to great center drives & feeds to our goalers being spot on. The positive was our ability to hold our nerve when Berwick came at us late in the 2nd qtr. Fantastic Round 1 win. Awards: Emily, Kahrynn & Shelley. Congratulations to Shelley also being awarded BOC for the Battle of the Creek. U17 Reds-Round 1 was finally upon us & what better way to kick start the season than with a win. It was great to welcome Annie back, her quick base-line drives & vertical leaps were outstanding. Emily demonstrated her dominance in the goal ring & combined nicely with both Danni & Annie. Em showcased excellent leadership on court, capitalising on every intercept. A fast-paced & versatile mid court with Paige, Eb, Anya & Bri it was great to see all of their hard work pay off. Our defence end was a major highlight, both Charlotte and Tenielle’s first qtr efforts kept Berwick to only 1 goal which set up the game nicely. Congrats to each of the girls for a great start, can’t wait to see where the season takes us. Awards-Tenielle, Charlotte & Annie.

our midcourters. An amazing first hit out, with so many exciting things to look forward to throughout the year. Awards: Keeley, Jaime, Paige & Kayla. Also well done to Paige who won the BOC medal, congrats! U13 Reds had a fantastic start. Although we lost by 9, the girls highlighted their determination & commitment on the court. After a slow start in the 1st qtr the girls began to apply consistent effort & defensive pressure throughout the remainder of the game. Well done to Kasey who was voted BOC. Kasey played an outstanding game & showed great leadership both on and off the court. Awards: Kasey, Tahlia, Holly & Bella. U13 Whites got off to a flying start & proved when following team structures the ball flow is very efficient. It was a great opportunity for all players to trial a variety of positions on the court & for the girls to become familiar with each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Well done to the girls for a fantastic start. Awards: Ariah, Sami, Abbey & Kyana.

BEACONSFIELD

A fantastic start for the U17 Whites! Showing fantastic teamwork the girls dominated at both ends of the court. Looking forward to a great season ahead. Awards: Mikaela, Mackenzie & Kasey. Wow Gulls! What a brilliant day of Netball we had last week. Some wins and some losses, but most importantly some great Netball being played and showing some really promising signs for the year ahead. So proud of our junior girls who showed they have huge potential and in only one game have already shown huge improvement. Also proud of our senior girls who after working hard all pre season were able to post 4 wins for the first time in a long time. Thank you to all who came along to support from U13 right through to A grade. It was fantastic to see a sea of red and green cheering our sides on. Keep up the good work!

Rachel works tirelessly and selflessly around the whole Tooradin community and we are so glad we could be a part of helping her with “Share the Dignity”

A huge thank you also to all who supported the “Share the Dignity” campaign at our first home game. The donation bin was overflowing!!! Thank you also to the Pakenham Netball Club who got on board and made a massive contribution to our donation tally. These donations will go a long way to supplying women in need with the basic day to day essentials they would otherwise not have.

8th July - Formal Night

Today we take on Beaconsfield in what are sure to be tough matches all round. Here’s hoping we can get some more wins on the board! Good luck to all teams today & to the footballers. Go Seagulls!! w Reminder of the upcoming functions for the year: 6th May - Frat Party 3rd June - Bogan Bingo

A huge thank you to junior parent Rachel Davies for bringing the campaign to our club and setting it up.

Battle of the Creek first round was a daunting task for alot of our players last week and it proved to be a day of intense match ups and great displays of athleticism. With the youngest of our club kicking off the day, our 13 Red’s came away with a convincing win, making their mark on Round 1 against our arch rivals, setting a very high standard for this age group. With a late change in coaching to our 13 White’s, the girls rallied hard together, their team work and goals on the court were evident and can only get stronger as the season progresses. With no wins against Beacy in 15’s for a few seasons, the Red’s certainly came out to show the talent we had at tryouts on court and secured another great win on the board for the Wickers. With another late coaching change within our ranks, 15 White’s were goal for goal all game but unfortunately missed the mark in the last quarter. This will only give the girls more incentive to work on finishing off the game this week against Cranbourne. Seeing alot of new faces within the ranks of our 17’s and Senior squads, the girls eagerly took to the court and tried to carry on the flow of wins from the junior teams. Beaconsfield however proved to be too strong across the court on the day, preventing any of these teams getting any wins on the board last week. As we retreat back to Edwin Flack Reserve this week for our first home game of the season against Cranbourne,

all these teams will be keen to regain their fighting spirit and show the rest of the league just what they’re really capable of. A demonstration match of the up and coming talent of the future of netball was played between the big 2 matches of B & A Grade. This proved to be a crowd pleaser and a great display of community spirit with all taking the time out of the day to remain courtside to watch these young netballers show us what they have to offer their clubs in years to come. BNC wish to thank Garrleigh Trophies for the donation of all new trophies and BOC medals that were awarded on the day and received wonderfully. We, as a club, may have lost alot of old faces and strong impacting people in the 2016 off season, that however does not mean we are lacking or depleted in ‘heart and soul’. With over 70 years of club service still within the ranks of just our A & B squad members, we are just as united and strong as ever throughout the whole netball club as we make our charge into this years season. This club has always functioned at its best with community spirit and the generosity of the people within in it, as it will continue to do so regardless of what players or committee members are at the helm. We thank some of our sponsors on board in 2017 Fairhaven Homes, Straight Smiles, Berwick Mazda, Rochet Kitchens and Andrew Tang - Orthopaedic Surgeon

In some windy and rainy conditions down at Casey Fields 8 out of our 10 teams began their 2017 season last week against Hampton Park. With all teams eager to get out on the court, it was fantastic to see everyone proudly going out to play in our new club dresses. Across the day last week there was a number of great plays and teams digging deep to get over the line against Hampton Park. We were able to come away with 7 out of our 8 teams winning on the day. One of the best wins for the day came from our young A grade side. They all continually worked together across all 4 quarters providing pressure over Hampton Park and scoring off their centre passes and intercepts to come away with a 17 goal win. As a club we would like to congratulate the following players who have been named captain and vice-captain of their respective teams.

Under 17 White Captain – Jenna Bliss Under 17 Red Co Captains: Aimee Harkin and Grace Rand D Grade Captain - Kristy Whitnell and ViceCaptain - Jade Whitnell C Grade Co Captains – Alana Haslett and Brooke Davey and Vice-Captain - Jodie Pike B Grade Co Captains – Jodie Holt and Emma Robertson A Grade Captain – Steph Ryan and ViceCaptain – Tara Cecil This week as we venture down to Berwick, it will be fantastic to see all 10 teams out there playing. We wish all of our teams the best of luck for the day, especially our Under 13’s and 15’s White teams as it is their first game for the season. Go Eagles!

D Grade 2017 has been a long-awaited season- the ladies have put all the hard work in their pre-season and were keen to take on DOVETON for Round 1. Tough competition was always expected- physically and mentally for everyone. Doveton got away to a nice lead of 3 at quarter time however with some strong defence from Ellen and Crystal we managed to claw back to 16 all at half time.

Congratulations to Mia and Moesha on your co captain leadership selection. Looking forward to Matilda Garrett’s defensive clinic at training this Tuesday. Lucky girls! Thank you families for your continued support and positivity. Go 13 Red! Go ROC

The second half saw a see saw of results and increasing physicality and intensity. The ladies displayed great discipline and strength and unfortunately went down by 4 in the end. Errors crept in and turn overs resulted, however it is from these we learn and develop stronger game play and results. 2017 is a year of change for ROC and a new mix is being settled in each grade so let the challenges begin. 15 RED U15 Red stepped onto the court for the first time this year. With some nervous energy in the air, the girls struggled to find their groove as a whole. In saying that the patience and discipline shown by the midcourt was way above their years. Placement of passes, the use of the reset option and angles on the edge of the ring were just some of the highlights of the day! The positive to come from this week is that we have so much more to learn and we have such an amazing attitude and respect for one another, that leaves us in good stead for the season to come! Let’s work hard this week to show Narre what we’re really about! Go ROC!! 13 RED Congratulations 13 Red on a wonderful team effort Round One result. We achieved our focus of relentless defence with exciting intercept, deflections, tap and gather and rebound statistics. A special mention to Mickey on her seven outstanding intercepts in GA, all resulting in goals. Our explosive ball movement was a feature with controlled and confident delivery. Congratulations for scoring off every centre pass. Well done goalers on moving the ball to the post with discipline and trust and shooting at 90% accuracy. Fantastic team values of teamwork, confidence, trust, commitment and voice displayed by all players for four quarters both on and off the court. Well done to Moesha on receiving our Superman team values award for dominating defensive turnovers with excellence.

Narre Warren is pumped to hit the court against ROC after beginning the season with a bye. After a productive pre season, our ten new look teams are eager to put their practice into action. We are expecting some tight contests in the junior matches. Good luck to the players who will be wearing the black and white for the first time. We hope you wear our colours proudly and enjoy your netball! With a few changes to our senior line ups, our reigning premiership teams will be working hard to adjust to new combinations quickly and to implement our game plan early. Extra good luck to the young girls who stepped up from 17s to the senior ranks this year. The lead up to our first game has included the Netball Victoria League Challenge, where our 2016 A Grade side represented SEFNL. After two days of tough netball against some tough, physical competition, our young NW side fought hard to make the semi-final, losing to the eventual Premiers, Kangaroo Flat.

Off the court, there has been lots of work to get season 2017 happening. A BIG shout out to the following sponsors, who have jumped on board to support out netball match day awards: JQ Plastering, Inspire Sports Group, Tru Plumbing, McGill Family, Fountain Gate Bingo, South East Tattoo Removals, Fountain Gate Panels, P3 Sports and Recovery, Subway Narre Warren, Mongelli Constructions, Dingley Adventure Golf, GFA Accessories and Aly Heinze. Best wishes to our C Grade coach, Carly Camilleri, who has undergone knee surgery this week to repair her ACL. Our C Grade coaches, Carly and Jaymie will be recovering together and will be channeling their desire to play through their coaching this year. Look out C Grade! Thank you to everyone who helped organise our first social ‘Narre Night’ for 2017. We look forward to many upcoming social events for 2017.

Our B, C and D Grade teams competed in the Casey Pre Season Cup and made it a clean sweep with all three teams finishing the day as undefeated Premiers - an AWESOME effort!

- April 22: ANZAC Round

The 13s and 15s squads sweat it up at their NetFit session hosted by Ash Howard. The girls worked tirelessly for the hour with plenty of giggles and laughs.

- May 19: Berwick Mazda Corporate Lunch

Our junior and senior players came together for a Pre Season Workshop Day in March to set the expectations for the 2017 season. The players participated in a well being yoga session, footwork, ball skills and team work sessions to round out he day. All players have been assigned a buddy for 2017 and we hope you make an effort to watch your buddy during the year.

- July 6: Ladies Lunch

- May 6: Pink Round/Netball Premiership Flag Unfurlings
