RED INK Magazine had the pleasure of interviewing Bernard Moore. This is what he told us.

REDINK: Who or what influenced you to become a swimwear designer and when did it all happen?

BM: Without question, my earliest interest in fashion was inspired by my mother. She used to ask my opinion about her outfit choices when I was as young as four or five years old. My mother later confided that initially, she'd ask my fashion opinion to engage with me conversationally and promote my cognitive thought process. But she then noticed the fashion advice I was giving her was (actually) good. So, she continued seeking my fashion advice. She inspired me then and continues to inspire me now.

REDINK: Do you have a favorite collection you’re most proud of?

BM: At any given time, my favorite collection has always been the one I am currently working on. However, if I had to choose one, I think my black and white collection from a few years ago would be amongst my favorites.

REDINK: Being a veteran in the industry, describe to us some of the changes you've seen in design from when you started to the present time.

BM: As most fashionistas know, fashion trends are cyclical. I have seen color pallets, prints for spandex, and style lines change. Then, just as quickly, change back. So as an industry veteran, I know that any style that becomes old could soon become new again.

REDINK: Tell us some pros and cons you have encountered in the industry.

BM: I have encountered many pros and cons over the years as an emerging designer in the fashion industry. But the most prominent positive aspect of being a designer has been creating a platform to express my creative truth unfiltered. Another positive aspect of being a part of the fashion community is the connections and collaboration we make with other creatives doing their thing. That said, some challenges include getting proper funding to produce and market your collection profitably, sacrificing time away from friends and family to work on your line, and the emotional toll paid given the predictable ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

REDINK: What advice would you give to a young designer starting up in today's market?

BM: My best advice to a young designer is to express yourself honestly, believe in yourself when others don’t, and allow yourself to “suck” at your craft starting off because none of us are born experts at anything. But if you commit yourself to your work. Learn your craft as if it were your religion. You’ll put yourself in the best possible position to realize your dream of becoming a professional designer.

REDINK: You've worked with many celebrities in the past, what was that like, and is there someone that you would like to work with that you haven't yet?

BM: Working with celebrities has its advantages. Namely, when working on-set with high-profile people, the work product is almost guaranteed to be of a higher quality than a non-celebrity shoot, for example. And this is because the creative staff (e.g., photographer, MUA, hairstylist, accessory stylists) are usually higher caliber professionals. Another advantage to working with celebrities is the increased attention everyone gets associated with the celebrity-involved project, be it an editorial photoshoot, commercial print ad, music video, motion picture, or fashion show. The higher the profile of the celebrity, the greater the advantage will be to your professional reputation and career. As to celebrities I have not had the chance to work with yet, my list is a mile long. However, it would include A-listers like Beyonce, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga. But the holy grail for any swimwear designer would be a feature in Sports Illustrated (swimwear edition) with one of the world's top swimwear models. A boy can dream, can't he? Lol

REDINK: What are you working on now?

BM: I am preparing for New York Swim Week (NYSW) and possibly Miami Swim. Both are in July.

REDINK: What can we expect from you next?

BM: What can you expect from me next? I plan to continue learning my craft. To push my limits creatively and to continue to educate myself in terms of gaining a competitive edge as it relates to the business of swimwear and having fun doing it!

West Coast Rapper Snoop Dogg has released a strawberry-infused GIN called INDOGGO

Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus, simply put, is an icon and legend of Hip Hop. With a career spanning over 25 years, he has released hit after hit, and is an ever-constant presence in pop culture. Snoop has stayed extremely relevant and, now more than ever, has built a significant multi-cultural and cross-generational following.

In 1994 he wrote "Gin & Juice:” it was about good feelings and real experiences; it just naturally became a global anthem.
