Relief through Technology Until June 15 | Youth awards | Bahrain Internet Society

Look beyond the present island of dreams and help alleviate a world of issues by working your digital talents. Are you a creative digital entrepreneur waiting to be recognised at an international platform? Would you like to do good for humanity? This is your last month to register your project with the World Summit Youth Award (WSYA), a unique award for young developers who employ IT, mobile technology and Internet projects to achieve UN Millennium Development Goals and make a global difference. The annual award is a global contest merging the talents of young individuals, between the ages of 18 to 30

years, and best practice in e-content in an effort to put the UN’s goals into action. The Millennium Development Goals were set in 2000 to prompt UN member states and civil society to fight global issues such as poverty, hunger and disease, inequalities, lack of education and environmental degradation. The six categories for the contest under which projects can be registered are: fight poverty, hunger and disease, education for all, power to women, create your culture, go green, and pursue the truth. Bahrain’s participation in the competition is spearheaded by the president of the Bahrain Internet Society, Nawaf Abdulrahman, who has been re-elected for a third year as a WSYA board member. “We are very pleased and proud of the winning of one of our local projects, Diabetes.bh, in the WSYA 2013 under the category of Fight Poverty, Hunger and Disease, which confirms that Bahraini projects are able to compete and win on a global level,” he says. “The winner of any of the local projects in this year’s event will represent the Bahraini community internationally at the distinguished winners’ event in Brazil, where they will have a chance to present their projects and be honoured.” The deadline to register is June 15.
