DR. BEVERLY J. GURLEY

Dr. Beverly Jones Gurley, a retired South Carolina Superintendent of schools, has served in many positions in Education for over 40 years. Dr. Gurley is an advocate for the community, dedicating her life to community empowerment. She is committed to education advancement and takes pride in promoting the importance of education. Dr. Gurley is also an established entrepreneur who has organized several businesses in multiple industries.

Dr. Gurley has been bestowed numerous awards and honors in the field of education throughout the state and community. Dr. Gurley is reputable for reviving failing schools. She is recognized for her expertise in working with groups to create organizations dedicated to improving the lives of people. As a testament to Dr. Gurley’s exceptional K-12 educational leadership and supervision, a vast variety of programs spear-headed by Dr. Gurley continue to thrive and benefit schools and communities statewide. Dr. Gurley has diligently served low-performance schools, including primary, elementary, middle, high, and higher education schools along South Carolina’s Corridor of Shame.

Under her leadership, schools have progressed to the high performing statuses in their respective districts and received national and international acclaim. The schools have been awarded numerous accolades, to include the South Carolina Palmetto Silver awards, South Carolina Palmetto Gold awards and SACS Accreditation evaluated by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Dr. Gurley received the Leadership and Dedication Award, presented by the Clio Elem/Middle School PTA, 2004; Outstanding Public Service Award, presented by the IRS (Internal Revenue Services), 2003; and the Effective School and Community Relationship Award, presented by the Marlboro County School Board (MCSB) and Superintendent, 2002. She received an Extraordinary Leadership Award presented by the Mayor and the Town of Estill, SC in 2014 during her tenure as superintendent of schools for Hampton School District 2 in Estill, SC. Dr. Gurley’s knowledge and expertise of the education system results from years of experience in the public-school sector. Dr. Gurley’s educational career began as a school bus driver, and later progressed to teacher assistant, teacher, principal, and district level administrator. She continued to serve in various educational positions, to include serving as Superintendent of Schools in South Carolina.

With a Doctorate Degree in Education Administration and Supervision from South Carolina State University. Dr. Gurley returned to her university to serve as an Adjunct Professor where she continues to teach periodically. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Coker College, Master of Arts Degree in Education, Administration and Supervision from Winthrop University. After spending over 40 years dedicated to the sole purpose of educating children, Dr. Beverly Jones Gurley has now retired. She said that she is not retiring from her mission, which is to ensure a highquality education for all children; however, she is changing gears. Dr. Gurley continues her work supporting education through her newly formed, yet highly successful, consulting company, JonesGurley Consulting, LLC and through her Nonprofit Organization, “Grassroots 1 Inc”.

Jones-Gurley Consultant, LLC has a team of nationally recognized educators who are credentialed leaders in the field of education providing high-quality educational services to support educational organizations in yielding measurable results. Grassroots1inc.org is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, where she serves as liaison between local, Federal and State Agencies, to include SC Ready, SC Works, Northeastern Technical College, and Economic Development on the State and county level. Dr. Gurley strives to empower all members in the community, to include underemployed, unemployed, and the felon community members. She promotes services made available by local agencies to make a positive difference in the community.

Dr. Gurley is also the CEO of RMR Enterprises, LLC, a family owned Construction and Logistics Management Company, Certified as a Woman Owned Minority Company. RMR Enterprises, has established relationships with distributors, manufactures, and financial institutions, both domestic and international for the sale of commodities.

Dr. Beverly J. Gurley pledged Delta Graduate Chapter in 2011 with the Dillon/Marion Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Dr. Gurley is the proud mother of three son, Marcus (Stephanie), Roderick, and Ridge.
