INTERIM PASTOR FOR CONGREGATIONAL CARE

WELCOME TO REDEEMER

Rev. Jennifer Roberts grew up in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee and felt called to ministry at the age of 12. However, young girls in the Southern Baptist tradition are not encouraged to go into ordained ministry so following high school, Pastor Jennifer attended East Tennessee State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in human development and learning. While at East Tennessee State University, Pastor Jennifer began to explore the Lutheran tradition and found herself attending Our Savior Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Johnson City, Tennessee. There she not only felt God’s grace in a whole new way but also began to understand her call in a whole new way. Following college, Pastor Jennifer received her Masters Degree in Education from Tusculum College and taught elementary school for 8 years. In 2016 she and her spouse, Ashton, and their son, Zion, left East Tennessee and moved to Columbia, South Carolina where she and Ashton attended Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, both receiving their Masters of Divinity. Pastor Jennifer served her internship at Lutheran Church of the Epiphany in WinstonSalem, NC, and has served as a trauma chaplain at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Most recently she served as the pastor of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Newnan, GA. Rev. Jennifer is excited to work with the staff of LCR and looks forward to serving God and the faithful as we seek to grow faithfully and serve boldly.

WORSHIP FAITH FORMATION “We Make the Road by Walking” by Brian McLaren returns January 7, 2024 Study led by Pastor Jonathan | Sundays 10 am | Reception Room Opportunity each week to look at a scripture reading and, using reflection, present an introduction/re-orientation to the Christian Faith. Book Study with Pastor Jonathan returns January 2, 2024 Tuesdays | 5 PM Join Pr Jonathan as the class begins a new book on December12th, 'Jesus and John Wayne' by Kristin Kobes Du Mez. Dr Du Mez's book is a sweeping, revisionist history of the last seventy-five years of white evangelicalism, revealing how evangelicals have worked to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism. While reading is encouraged, it is not required! If you have any questions, please reach out to Pr Jonathan at jtrapp@redeemer.org. Thursday afternoon Bible Study returns January 11, 2024 Thursdays | 3 – 4:00 PM | Reception Room/ Zoom Dig deep into the Gospel of Matthew, chapter by chapter, as we explore theological and contextual themes. Sweet treats and coffee will be provided. Bibles will be available, or you can bring your own preferred Bible.

Wednesdays at Redeemer Early Bird Bible Study 4 pm | Reception | Reception / Zoom Link Join David Ott as he leads a study of Leviticus 6:00 PM Pastor's Class | Rudisill Hall & Zoom Reading the Gospel of John Through Palestinian Eyes Christians from diverse cultural, religious, and political contexts have been studying the Gospel of John for almost two thousand years. Rev Yohanna Katanacho invites us to encounter the text anew, this time from the perspective of a twenty-first-century Palestinian Christian. Challenging the claim that Christ belongs to a particular denomination, nation, or race, Katanacho presents the Gospel of John as introducing a new world order defined not by race or nationality, but by suffering and love.
