From starter violins to instruments that’ll see you through FE / HE, gigs, tours and beyond... look no further. “Music has a power of forming the character and should therefore be introduced into the education of the young.” (Aristotle) “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, and life to everything… Without music, life would be an error.” (Plato)
New versus old
If you’re shopping for a beginner you may be tempted to rent an instrument as your student’s commitment is unproven. There are some good reasons to opt for a purchase instead. Long-term rental fees can add up quickly - a perfectly playable entry-level violin can usually be purchased for less than the cost of a year’s rental. Warranty - you’ll have peace of mind with a new model, and finally - a good quality instrument can appreciate in value over time.
The excellent materials and refined artistic skill that go into these instruments drive up their value, and make them appropriate instruments for professional and aspiring, advanced musicians.

Size Talking specifically about violins here - violins come in nine different sizes. Generally players over the age 11 will use a full-sized violin (also known as 4/4) For children, there are also 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16 and 1/32 violins.
Care For maximum longevity from your instrument, make sure it’s kept at a mild temperature and at in moderate humidity, and supr crucially that they are kept clean! Make sure you stock up on polish cloths, rosin, cork grease and wire brushes!
Student In general, student instruments will be made from lower-quality materials and involve much less hand work in assembly and finishing. Perfect for those interested in learning, but who are not yet sure if they will play for very long.
Intermediate These instruments are perfect for musicians who know they need something better than a beginner instrument, but aren’t ready to invest thousands of pounds in a professional model.
