FACULTY Dean Virgilio Jara Civil Procedure / Remedial Law Review Dean Virgilio Jara’s career as a law professor spans more than 40 years. He teaches Remedial Law Review, Civil Procedure, Evidence and Trial Technique, and Special Proceedings. He is also a premiere pre-bar lecturer in San Beda College of Law, Arellano University, San Sebastian College, and University of San Jose-Recoletos. In 1999, Dean Jara was appointed Dean of San Beda College of Law in Mendiola and remained in the position until the present. His classes are favored by students who are daring and eager to learn from his strict style of teaching. Those fortunate students who have been under his tutelage under his him proudly testify to that fact.
Vice-Dean Pablito Perez Corporation Law / Evidence and Trial Technique Atty. Pablito Perez began his teaching career at the San Beda College of Law Mendiola in 1984 and is currently the Vice Dean of the institution. He teaches Corporation Law and Evidence and Trial Technique in San Beda Alabang School of Law. He is also a lecturer in the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University where he conducts an online graduate course on Contemporary Issues In Media Law and Ethics and in Philosophy. Atty. Perez’s his classes in Corporation Law and Evidence and Trial technique have the additional dynamism of simulated practical experience and the appropriate injection of humor to keep the class interesting. His eloquence remains to be envied. He is currently the First Vice President and General Counsel of the Filinvest Group of Companies and Corporate Secretary of Filinvest Development Corporation and Filinvest Land Inc.
Atty. Maximo Amurao Criminal Law I and II / Criminal Law Review He has built up an image as a “terror” in Criminal Law. What many people don’t know is that deep inside, he is proud of his fourth-year students in Alabang—even bragging about their performance to his co-teachers. He is the much-feared Atty. Max Amurao. With his serious mien and intimidating presence, Amurao has made recitation time a veritable torture test. Students have been known to call on the names of all the saints to help them escape the dreaded ‘bokya’. Despite his fearsome reputation, however, Atty. Amurao actually serves as a constant inspiration to his students by instilling in them the values of “Ora et Labora.” Atty. Amurao graduated with a degree in Associate in Arts, with honors, from the University of the East. He received his Bachelor of Laws degree from San Beda College under a partial scholarship. He also studied at the University of Singapore as a Ford Fellowship grantee. Legend has it that he obtained a perfect score in Criminal Law when he took the bar exams in 1963. Atty. Amurao is not only an accomplished lawyer and teacher but also a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Atty. Rene V. Saguisag Constitutional Law I and II Since the beginning of SBCA-SOL there are days when students are drawn to the faculty room because of the presence of a certain lawyer. From the whispers you can make out the words - Atty. Saguisag is here. It is understandable. He is considered as one of the great lawyers of our time. To take Constitutional Law under Atty. Saguisag is considered a privilege and a treat. Expect the lessons to be packaged in innate eloquence and insider experiences in landmark court cases, the Senate, Philippine politics, and stirring national events. Here and there, anecdotes on chats with leaders, diplomats, movie stars, convicts, accused and plaintiffs keep the class interesting. He has been teaching law since 1961. The Great Senator and human rights advocate obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree, cum laude, at San Beda College of Law. He acquired his master of laws under a full scholarship at Harvard University thereafter. From being a working student then a private law practitioner, he became the spokesman of candidate and president elect Cory Aquino. He was elected senator in 1987 up to 1992.
