From Motherwell, to Art night…
Se l’arte contemporanea resta grazie alla straordinaria parata espositiva lanciata in questi giorni dalla Biennale l’assoluta protagonista dell’estate veneziana, altre mostre conquistano nel periodo l’appassionato d’arte. Tra queste, quella promossa dalla Collezione Peggy Guggenheim, riferimento fondamentale in città per quanto riguarda l’Arte moderna. La scelta di Philip Rylands, direttore, nonché curatore e conservatore della Collezione, è caduta sullo statunitense Robert Motherwell (1915-1991), esponente di quell’Espressionismo astratto statunitense che Peggy Guggenheim lanciò da Art of This Century, la celebre galleria newyorkese che segnò la storia dell’arte americana. Robert Motherwell, primi collage, questo il titolo della mostra, ci presenta i lavori, una quarantina, che l’artista realizza nel primo decennio della sua carriera artistica, tra il 1941 e il 1951, a partire quindi dall’esordio di questa tecnica di lavoro, il collage, che egli stesso descrive nel 1944 come “la maggiore scoperta” nel campo dell’arte. La mostra, inserita negli intimi spazi dedicati alle esposizioni temporanee, è caratterizzata da colori caldi, dalla dolcezza degli accostamenti cromatici e dagli equilibri geometrici. Il percorso, sfocia poi verso la splendida collezione Mattioli dedicata al primo Novecento italiano. Da qui si potrà infine passare, attraverso il giardino delle sculture Nasher, all’impareggiabile collezione di Peggy Guggenheim, ulteriormente arricchita dalla recente acquisizione Schulhof. Ancora per l’arte moderna, ma in questo caso siamo agli albori, ricordiamo la grande mostra dedicata ad Édouard Manet, presentata dalla Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, negli spazi di Palazzo Ducale. Qui, tra le opere del precursore dell’Impressionismo e alcuni fondamentali capolavori dell’arte italiana, da cui l’artista francese trasse ispirazione, è esposto quel Déjeuner sur l’herbe, presentato a Parigi nel 1864, che convenzionalmente viene considerato il punto di partenza dell’arte moderna. Oltre alla Biennale Arte e al suo corollario di mostre diffuse fuori dai Giardini e dall’Arsenale, si affiancano numerose mostre esterne. Tra queste, da “non perdere” quella su Antony Caro al Museo Correr; quella su Rudolph Stingel a Palazzo Grassi; su Tàpies a palazzo Fortuny; sulle collezioni Franchetti alla Cà d’Oro; su Roy Lichtenstein, scultore ed Emilio Vedova ai Magazzini del Sale. E ancora, quelle della collezione Pinault a Punta della Dogana, e sulla famosa mostra di Szeemann a Berna del 1969, a Ca’ Corner della Regina. Da “non perdere” infine - ma questa volta ci rivolgiamo agli appassionati di musica rock - la straordinaria esposizione della Collezione di Hard Rock Café, Hard Rock Couture, allestita negli spazi del Teatro Carlo Goldoni, con memorabilia dei più grandi artisti della storia del rock internazionale. Chiudiamo ricordando per sabato 22 giugno l’appuntamento con Art Night Venezia, terza edizione del grande happening promosso dall’Università di Ca’ Foscari e dal Comune di Venezia alla quale faranno parte tutti i luoghi dell’arte veneziana che per l’occasione apriranno le loro porte fuori orario. If contemporary art remains the absolute protagonist of the Venetian summer thanks to the extraordinary showcasing parade launched these days by the Biennale, other exhibitions will conquer art lovers during this period. Among them, is the one promoted by the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, a main point of reference in town concerning modern art. The choice made by Philip Rylands, the director as well as curator and keeper of the Collection, fell on American Robert Motherwell (1915-1991), a figure of that abstract American Expressionism which Peggy Guggenheim launched from Art of This Century , the famed New York gallery that left its mark on the United States history of art. Robert Motherwell, the first collages, this is the exhibition title, presents the works, about forty of them, which the artist created during the first decade of his artistic career between 1941 and 1951, starting from his debut with the collages working technique, which he himself described in 1944 as the “greatest discovery” in the field of art. The exhibition, set within the intimate venues dedicated to temporary displays, is characterised by warm colours, soft colour matches and its geometric balancing. The circuit then leads to the splendid Mattioli collection, dedicated to the early Italian 20th century. From here, it will finally be possible to pass through the Nasher sculptures garden on to Peggy Guggenheim’s matchless collection, enriched by the recent Schulhof acquisition. Continuing about modern art, but in this case we are at its very dawn, we remind of the great exhibition dedicated to Édouard Manet, presented by the Venice City Museums Foundation within the Ducal Palace venues. Amongst works by this heralder of Impressionism and some of the pivotal Italian art masterpieces which inspired the French artist, is also that Déjeuner sur l’herbe, conventionally deemed as the starting point of modern art, and presented in Paris in 1864. Several external exhibitions are taking place, in addition to the Biennale and its sidebar showcases spreading beyond the Giardini and the Arsenale. The “unmissable” ones among them are the Antony Caro at the Museo Correr; the one on Rudolph Stingel at Palazzo Grassi; on Tàpies at Palazzo Fortuny; on the Franchetti collections at the Cà d’Oro; on Roy Lichtenstein as a sculptor, and on Emilio Vedova at the Magazzini del Sale. And also, the Pinault collection at Punta della Dogana and the one at Ca’ Corner della Regina about the famous 1969 exhibition by Szeemann in Berne. Finally – but we are addressing rock music fans here do not miss the extraordinary Hard Rock Café Collection display, Hard Rock Couture, set up inside the Carlo Goldoni Theatre venues, with memorabilia belonging to the greatest artists in the history of international rock. We end here, reminding of the rendez-vous with Art Night Venezia on Saturday 22 June, the third edition of this great happening promoted by Ca’ Foscari University and the Municipality of Venice, featuring the participation of all the Venetian art venues, which will open their doors out of hours for this occasion. un OSPITE di VENEZIA
