Rectory’s annual activities and events include the first-day-of-school field day, black and orange days, Halloween festivities, the Heart-y Party, MLK Day of Service, the spring musical, recycled regatta, MELP, and sending chapel. There were many memorable moments this year.
(BELOW) Sending Chapel: Rectory’s Chaplain, True Bryant, and Director of the Arts, Donna Bessette, wove music, 9th-grade and departing faculty speeches into the hour-long service held in the Pomfret School Clark Chapel.

(ABOVE) The Party with Heart: Our Heart-y-Party is an annual December tradition for the middle school. With a theme of giving, the School community collects donations for local children in need. During the party, students pack bags to include for donation, enjoy lots of homemade foods, dress up in our photo booth, and play board games with faculty.



9th-Grade Tile Project Headmaster Fred Williams launched a new 9th-grade project this year with the help of our art teachers Mrs. Lisa Gould and Miss Judy Blakelock. The fi rst examples have been framed and are hanging on the newly refurbished third fl oor of the academic building.

10 th Annual Mlk Day of Service
On Monday, January 21, 2019, Rectory School held its tenth-annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
Elementary students worked on three service projects: a piece of art to share with the Rectory community; knot blankets for TEEG (ompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group); and snack mix that was sold to benet the Temple Grandin/ Eustacia Cutler Autism Fund and the Pomfret Power Packs Project.
Despite being one of the coldest day of the winter, our middle school students went to more than 30 dierent locations including the Pomfret Audubon Society and Pomfret Fire Department; the Brookside Rehab and Nursing Center, Brookdale; Covenant Soup Kitchen; Hale YMCA; Crosst Aspinock; Pomfret School; Most Holy Trinity Church; and Christ Church. ere were also several on-campus activities including moving archival materials and creating a mural in the Art Barn. anks to Rectory Parents’ Association (RPA), students in Grades 5-9 were treated to a talk by Ms. Reyna Grande. Ms. Grande is the award-winning author of e Distance Between Us, a memoir of her life in Mexico and her illegal immigration into the United States as a child.
Kellogg Awards
e rst award winner, Mrs. Catherine Bastow (Related Arts, MELP Coordinator, and Travel Coordinator) is relentless in her eorts to lead the faculty in creating a safe, educational, and incredibly enjoyable experience for our students. She asks a lot of the sta in the process, but expects even more of herself.
Our second award winner, Mr. Mario Hurtado (Director of Buildings and Grounds), arrived at Rectory in 2011 and since that time he has been a part of transforming all aspects of the Rectory campus.
Established in 1993 to recognize faculty and sta who have demonstrated excellence and commitment to Rectory School, this past spring the Kellogg Award was awarded to two Rectory employees:
