Tools to Prevent and Resolve Decoding Weaknesses
Celebrating 18 Years of Teaching the Science of Reading
REALLY GREAT READING
Why are so many schools using the Really Great Reading approach?
Really Great Reading specializes in decoding instruction that makes a difference: Direct, systematic, explicit, and multisensory instruction in phonemic awareness and phonics.
We help teachers teach the best practices supported by evidence with preventative programs for all, smallgroup instruction for some, and intensive intervention for the few who need it. In just 15–20 minutes a day, deliver research-based, scientifically aligned instruction.
A Comprehensive Decoding Solution for Pre-K–12
Our Phonics Suite features diagnostic assessments, a data-based grouping system, and state-of-the-art foundational literacy skills instruction.
DIAGNOSTICS
Quick and easy assessments to measure foundational skills. Our free assessments help pinpoint areas of concern, group students, drive targeted instruction, and measure progress.
GROUPING
Create data-driven student groups based on decoding strengths and weaknesses. Our free Grouping Matrix illustrates which students should be taught together, offers instructional recommendations, and monitors progress.
INSTRUCTION
PREVENTION: Build strong decoders and bring the “science of reading” to life in the classroom with fun, daily instruction and practice.

Practical and Efficient Assessment Tools
EFFECTIVE INTERVENTIONS START WITH ACCURATE DIAGNOSTICS
Students struggle to read for many reasons. Effective interventions start with an accurate diagnosis of component reading strengths and weaknesses. Schools use Really Great Reading’s diagnostic decoding assessments to find out which students have decoding weaknesses that interfere with their ability to comprehend text. Because the ability to decode affects every academic area, diagnosis is critical.
Our diagnostic assessments help answer these key questions:
• W hich students are struggling with decoding?
• W hat types of words are they struggling with?
• W hat is the source of the underlying confusion?
• W ho can be grouped together for instruction?
• W hat type of instruction will yield the greatest results?
Diagnostic Decoding Assessments
Really Great Reading offers a family of complimentary diagnostic decoding assessments to help educators understand how well their students are decoding. In just 3 to 5 minutes, it’s easy to determine whether decoding deficits are hindering a student’s ability to understand what they are reading. Our complimentary diagnostic assessments contain everything you’ll need for initial assessment of an unlimited number of students. Each assessment packet provides an explanation of how the survey results can be used to group students and how to use data to plan effective and efficient instruction.
