Whitechurch library news

Whitechurch library facilitates work placement arrangements for people with a disability. The specific needs of the person are discussed beforehand to ensure that suitable provisions are made. In partnership with the WEB project and Good Counsel Centre in Ballyboden, the library provide a safe secure space for people with intellectual disabilities to attend art workshops, music therapy and story telling sessions. The library also facilitates HSE and MABS activities and contains assistive technologies for computer users. Opening hours are Monday – Thursday 2.00pm to 8.00pm and Saturdays 9.45am to 4.30pm. ‘Tell The Future’ competition

The ‘Tell The Future’ competition is a new story-writing competition for all secondary schools in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The competition is calling on all post-primary students to write a short story outlining their practical and innovative ideas on how to power their country in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly way. Prizes such as interactive white boards, laptops, Kindle e-book readers and concert tickets are on offer for pupils, their classes and their schools. ‘Celebration’ at the Civic

The Civic Theatre in Tallaght will host ‘Celebration’, a talent competition focusing on Social Inclusion through the Performing Arts on Monday 21st November 2011 at 8.00 pm. Participants will be singing, dancing, doing stand up comedy or choosing something of their own in both group and solo. Haunted happenings this Halloween at Marlay Park

On Sunday, October 30th Marlay Park will be a FREE fright fest of spooky thrills and chills for Samhain hosted by DLR Events. Visit Marlay Park in your Halloween costume for a spooky walk through the haunted forest! Made longer, bigger and better for 2011 the haunted woods are not for the faint hearted! As you walk look out for the spooky characters, listen to the scary noises and watch out for the eerie fog! The Haunted Woods will be open between 4pm and 9pm. Entry is FREE. The walk is approx 1.5km long as is on a path suitable for buggies/wheelchairs. The Marlay Park coffee shop will be open late for the event there will be some other goodies available to buy on the night to keep the chill away. DLR Events recommends the use of public transport or walk to the event where possible. All times are approximate and subject to change. There is limited car parking in the car park off College Rd. Please do not park on the roads or in local estates. Please stay to the lit routes at all times after dark and follow the instructions of the stewards. Samhain is an initiative by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. DLR Events hosts a fantastic series of free family entertainment and events in the county throughout the year. Ulster Bank volunteers spruce up charity garden

Seven volunteers from Ulster Bank spent the day clearing weeds and power-washing the footpaths at the MS Care Centre in Rathgar late last September. A donation of €16,300 was also made by the bank to help with the construction of a wheelchair-accessible raised garden that will be built in the spring. The Care Centre provides short term respite care for people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), as well as a variety of treatments and testing for those living with MS.
