PGA JR. LEAGUE

GAP Jr. League is the flagship youth pillar program of the PGA of America’s 501 (c)(3) foundation, PGA REACH. It is a fun, social, and inclusive opportunity for boys and girls, ages 17 & under, to enjoy the game of golf. Like other recreational youth sports, participants wear numbered jerseys and play on teams with friends. Our Carolinas PGA Professionals captain teams in a popular two-person scramble format which reinforces the team concept and creates a nurturing environment for learning the game of golf. More than 3,000 juniors across the Carolinas participate in this entry point to the game. In 2022, PGA REACH Carolinas lead (4) Section Local-Qualifiers with more than 300 participants. These qualifiers led into a PGA Jr. League Section Championship at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club. After a few more obstacles and for the first time in Carolinas history, Team North Carolina won the All-Star National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ!

CHARLOTTE 3 LEAGUE'S JOURNEY TO THE TOP

Brent Reneau and Mike Abate’s 13U All-Star team had been here before, but had fallen short at the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship. This year however, was different. The Charlotte 3 League’s journey began in mid July at Charles T. Myers Golf Course for their Section Local-Qualifier. While in Charlotte, the 13U team dominated over their competitors with 28-29-30 scores. This allowed them to advance to the Section Championship at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club on Thursday, August 11, 2022. Two teams would break through to the Regional Championship, but Charlotte 3 League still stayed on top. While in Ringgold, GA the All-Star team would compete against other PGA Jr. League teams from Georgia & Tennessee. After three days of stroke play qualifying, semi finals, & finals, Charlotte 3 League triumphed against Georgia’s TPC Sugarloaf team. In Scottsdale, AZ (12) 13U teams traveled across the country to compete in the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club. This was a three day event that consisted of both stroke play and match play team scramble competitions. The tournament was aired live on select ESPN networks. After day one at the beautiful Grayhawk Golf Club, Team North Carolina was tied for first place with Team Illinois. In the Semi-Finals against Team Florida, the two tied with a score of 6-6 which came down to the first scorecard tiebreaker of holes won. In the Championship Match, Team North Carolina dominated against Team California with a score of 7.50-4.50. Team North Carolina celebrated with a water bottle shower on the 18th green. Congratulations to Team North Carolina (Charlotte 3 League) on the amazing season!
