Massachusetts Art Curriculum Framework Music Standards (include detailed standards by grade level) Lesson Objectives Students will: Learn two new songs for the guitar test at the end of the week and be given time to practice. Materials and Setup Needed to Deliver Instruction (list music, audio equipment, instruments, etc.) • Guitars • Textbook Procedures 1. Introduction Phase (engage students; set expectations; state outcomes) a. Good morning everyone, lets tune and we will start to learn “Guitar Rock” and “Merry Go Round”
 2. Focus Phase (describe learning experiences/activities; include differentiated learning strategies) a. I am going to play through “Guitar Rock” for you again, finger through it while I play it. b. Lets try to play it together and if you fall off just get back on (go slow) c. Point out that the last two measures are the same each time. d. give students time to work through it on their own e. Go through the same process with “Merry-Go-Round”, play through the piece really slow and tell students to try to finger along, this time saying the notes out loud while they finger f. Have students play through the song with me once g. Give students time to play through piece on their own


3. Closure Phase (reinforce, review, reflect on learning outcomes) a. Remember that we have only looked at two strings and the notes we know are (B, C, D, E, F, G) b. Tomorrow we will go into practice rooms and have time to play through the pieces we have learned

Assessment instrument(s): Songs: Brown Eyes, Jingle Bells, Guitar Rock, Merry-Go-Round Assessment procedures: Are students playing along and trying to progress Accommodations/modifications for students with special needs Andrew: Andrew suffers from Depression, I will place him close to me in the class to make sure he is able to participate. I also need to be checking in on him every now and again. Madison: Madison has an IEP in place and behavioral issues. If need be she will go to All Ed for assistance in class. Kayla: Kayla has an IEP in place and if need be will go to guidance for assistance. Extension (include additional guided practice activity, assessment, etc.) If we have time left in the class, I will send students to practice rooms to begin practicing for the playing test to be given sometime next week.
