EOPS Mission Statement The mission of Riverside College EOPS is to support EOPS students in achieving their academic and personal goals. To this end the EOPS staff commits to the following actions: •

To stimulate and support student interest in their intellectual, educational and vocational achievement

To recruit and retain EOPS students

To provide personal and accessible services

To facilitate the transfer and career placement of students

To go “Above and Beyond” the traditional educational and student support programs of the college

To positively affect student self-concept and self-esteem.

EOPS Academic Appointments Counseling Services: EOPS Academic Counselors are available by appointment for guidance, academic, career and personal counseling. The counselors will assist in selecting courses and will develop a Student Educational Plan (SEP) each semester. Whether students are working towards a certificate, an Associate Degree, and/or preparing to transfer to a four year university, the counseling staff is dedicated to helping you reach your educational goal. Students can make an appointment by stopping by the EOPS office. All EOPS and CARE students are required to meet with an EOPS Academic Counselor twice (2) a semester; to complete and/or update a SEP, and to create a One Semester Plan for priority registration. New Students are required to schedule a one-hour appointment with an EOPS Academic Counselor to complete a Student Educational Plan during the first six weeks of the semester. Failure to do so will jeopardize your book voucher. Para-Professional Counseling/ Educational Advisor: All EOPS & CARE students are required to meet with an Educational Advisor at least once (1) per semester to review mid semester progress reports. The Educational Advisor can assist students in many areas, including (but not limited to) the following: • • • • • • • •

Orientation to college Peer Advising Assistance with course scheduling and registration Reviewing mid semester progress reports Tutoring Referrals Referrals to on campus programs and resources Time management Researching career information


EOPS Student Academic Appointment Requirement: All EOPS students must complete a total of three (3) EOPS academic appointments per semester (2 EOP Academic counselors and 1 Ed. Advisor).

EOPS Academic Appointment Office Policy: • Missing 3 or more appointments will incur the loss of appointment privileges; as a result students will only be allowed to see an EOPS Academic counselor and Educational Advisor on designated EOPS walk-in times. • It is critical that children or guests do not accompany you to any academic appointments so that you are able to focus on the issues addressed. • If students are later than 10 minutes to an EOPS appointment they will be asked to reschedule the appointment. • All appointments must be scheduled in person at the EOPS office.

Tutoring Tutoring is available for all Riverside College students with current semester valid identification. There are special tutoring hours and services for EOPS students. For more information contact the EOPS office.

Continuing Student Book Voucher Orientation Continuing EOPS students must complete one Book Voucher Orientation in January and another in June. Failure to do so will jeopardize receiving a Book Voucher. It is the students responsibility to check the front desk for available dates.

Book Voucher EOPS & CARE students are eligible to receive a Book Voucher to assist with the cost of textbooks. Book Vouchers are provided once in the Fall & Spring semester on a first come, first served basis. Continuing students must complete all EOPS requirements at the end of the previous semester and be enrolled in 12 Riverside City College Units to be eligible for a Book Voucher. DSPS students must submit a DSPS verification form and enroll in the designated units to receive a Book Voucher. The Book Voucher can only be used to purchase textbooks at the Riverside City College bookstore. The Book Voucher is activated on the first day of school. Continuing students must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units to remain in EOPS as a “Services Only” student. “Services only” entitles EOPS students to the following services: counseling, tutoring, educational supplies, workshops, conferences and priority registration. A student enrolled in nine (9) units is not eligible for a Book Voucher. To be eligible for a book voucher students must complete all EOPS requirements and be enrolled in 12 Riverside City College Units.

Priority Registration All EOPS & CARE students are eligible for priority registration, if the EOPS Update Form is submitted by the deadline. Priority registration allows students to register for classes earlier than regularly student assigned date. Priority registration dates are locked, if students have difficulties registering please contact the EOPS office during priority registration dates. If an EOPS student misses priority registration then their registration will default to regular student registration date.


Workshops Throughout the semester, EOPS and the college offer workshops designed to assist students in a variety of areas. Workshops cover a full range of topics, including, but not limited to, study skills, test taking, time management, campus tours, college events and career related topics. EOPS students are required to complete one workshop in the Fall and one workshop in the Spring as part of the criteria for a subsequent Book Voucher. Failure to do so will jeopardize the Book Voucher.

CSU/UC Application Fee Waivers EOPS can provide EOPS students who plan to transfer an application fee waiver for schools in the CSU and UC systems. Some private colleges may accept a letter from the EOPS office as application fee waiver as well. To receive a waiver come to the EOPS office. For fall transfer students request a fee waiver in October/November and Spring in August. However, these months are recommendations. Waivers can be requested anytime after these months.

New EOPS Students Orientation All new eligible EOPS Applicants must attend a New EOPS Student Orientation before receiving EOPS services.

Limitations on EOPS Eligibility A student who withdraws from the college or EOPS, graduates, transfers, reaches their educational goal (per EOPS program plan), accumulates 70 or more degree applicable units and/or has been enrolled in EOPS six consecutive semesters will no longer be eligible to continue in EOPS and will be removed/dropped from the program immediately.
