In February 2021, the RBWH Foundation played a significant role in this health revolution with an historical $5-million-dollar contribution to the Herston Biofabrication Institute (HBI).
HBI Clinical Director Dr Michael Wagels said the new facility would allow for greater and more advanced patient care.
The state-of-the-art facility is the only one of its kind in Australia, with a focus on key areas including orthopaedics, burns and skin, vascular, urology, cancer care, craniofacial and anaesthesia and intensive care.
The contribution is the largest in the RBWH Foundation’s history and was made possible only by the incredible and ongoing generosity of private individuals, corporations and the public, through campaigns such as RBWH Giving Day.
There are over 30 projects underway across seven key clinical streams, which means researchers and clinicians can combine efforts under one roof to advance results for Queensland patients.
