The Collection is available to view in our store located in the beautiful Clare Valley. A Remarkable Character diamond – the De Beers Centenary Diamond, and it was this which inspired him to create the suite of Astralis diamonds. The Four ‘C’s Carat
The weight of a diamond weight is measured in carats, abbreviated ct. One carat is equal to 0.2grams and can be divided into 100 points. Therefore, a diamond weighing one quarter of a carat can also be referred to as being 25 points.
Cut Cut is the single most important aspect of any diamond. The proportion, finish and symmetry of the external facets of the diamond create the fire and brilliance that characterises a diamond. A diamond may be colourless and flawless but if it is not cut well it will appear dull and lifeless.
Clarity
Clarity refers to the amount and size of natural imperfections in the diamond. They may be internal (inclusions) or external (blemishes). The fewer inclusions or blemishes in a diamond, the rarer and more valuable the gem. Each diamond is unique and while there are no absolutely perfect diamonds, on rare occasions, some come very close!
Colour Diamond colour is all about what you can’t see. Diamonds are valued by how closely they approach colourlessness – the less colour, the higher their value. A diamond’s colour is determined on a colour scale from D (colourless) to Z (yellow/brown). About R&B Roger Sutherland began his jewellery career in Adelaide under the guidance of Len Kavanagh in 1971 and afterwards John Bollmyer. Over the years he worked for many jewellers, but it was under the German Master Jeweller John Heller that he learned the finer nuances of the craft. Colin Burgess and Barry Edwards were major influences, encouraging Roger's creativity. Eventually Roger branched out, opening his own workshop where his designs flourished. Now in the Clare Valley, Roger has found inspiration for a variety of bespoke pieces for clients as well as collections for his boutique store, R&B Sutherland Jewellers by Design.
