Dreams of

Rose Rock Ranch

By Maddie Rehl

Sitting atop the hill in their Kubota RTV1140 while overlooking their beautiful 10-acre ranch, I couldn’t help but notice the excitement in Matt and Leisha Gibson’s voices as they described their dream home. The home that is to be built in the exact spot where we were sitting. Under the shade of one of the trees lays an inscribed rock with the words, “Rose Rock Ranch, est. 2020." It was under this tree that the Gibson’s would sit and imagine all the possibilities of their new property. Matt and Leisha’s dream to own a ranch came true in March 2020 when they broke ground on what is now known as Rose Rock Ranch. A year prior, the Gibsons knew they wanted a home on their bare 10-acres, but they also saw the potential to start a business on the property. Rose Rock Ranch will soon be the home to 10 to 14 miniature red and black Herefords, with the goal to have some of them as show cattle for future grandkids and nieces. With the size of their property, raising miniature Herefords is the perfect business for the Gibson’s. Staying conscious of the land with the idea to regrow the soil, they also plan to use rotational grazing for their cattle. With this technique, the cattle will graze on quarter sections at a time, allowing the other sections to rest with the plan of throwing down winter grass for the colder months

for the cattle to graze on. The Gibson’s are also adopting retired racehorses to give them a home. The two R’s on the gate of the grand entrance to this ranch stand for “Rose Rock.” The name rightfully came from the amount of rose rock found on the ranch. Being in Oklahoma, where the dirt is red and sandy, the Gibson’s were excited to find inspiration for their ranch’s namesake in the form of the beautiful state rock. Situated at the end of the long driveway is the stunning steel shop, making a statement with the blue roof. Inside the shop you will find what will soon be living quarters for family while they are building their house. In the shop, you will also find the Gibson’s Kubota M6060, zero-turn mower, and RTV, each playing a major role in getting work done on the ranch. Leisha has been drawing and designing her vision for the ranch. You can see her passion in every detail and dimension of the gated entrance and shop, along with the design a horse barn soon on the way. She has been documenting the Rose Rock Ranch journey through social media, with pictures revealing her blueprint drawings of the structures side-by-side the construction process, along with the animals and people that have made it out to the property so far. Although a few roadblocks in the construction process have slowed down some of their progress, it is undeniable the positivity and passion for their ranch that radiates from Matt and Leisha. They seem to be enjoying every step of their journey in building the ranch of their dreams. A place to slow down, enjoy family, and take in the beauty Oklahoma has to offer, Rose Rock Ranch has more history than the Gibson’s originally thought.

When showing Matt’s parent’s the ranch, they pointed out the neighboring property of what once was Twelve Oaks. This happened to be the place where his parents had their first date. This just adds some sentiment to where they plan to settle down in the near future. In four years, the idea is to have their dream house built on top of the hill, giving them the perfect view of the pasture below. The Gibson’s are loyal Kubota customers, and we are lucky to be the brand serving a genuine family with big dreams. Matt could not speak highly enough of their experiences with the salespeople at Great Plains in Edmond, leading to their purchase of many pieces of Kubota equipment. “You can just tell it’s a family business at Great Plains,” Matt explained after he and Leisha were welcomed and recognized with smiling faces by Great Plains staff at the OKC Farm Show this year. You can keep up with the Gibson’s journey on Instagram @rose_rock_ranch and check back with GPj over the next few years as we follow up with their progress with Rose Rock Ranch.
