Fuel System General Information

DIAGNOSING MALFUNCTIONS Hard Engine Starting

Engine flooded.

Air leakage past damaged carburetor-to-engine gasket.

Gas tank vent restricted,

Air leakage past worn throttle plate shaft or bearing surfaces.

High-speed and idle mixture needles not properly adjusted.

Float setting incorrect.

Fuel inlet needle sticking to seat. Choke not operating properly.

Fuel shut-off valve closed.

Air filter element restricted. Dirt, water, or ice in fuel system. Poor Acceleration

Water, rust or stale fuel in gas tank.

High-speed and idle mixture needles not properly adjusted.
