Stussy or St端ssy is a clothing brand and private company started in the early 1980s by Shawn Stussy. The company is one of many that benefited from the surfwear trend originating in Orange County, California, but it has largely been adopted by the streetwear and hip-hop scenes. The logo which has defined the brand started in the early 1980s after Shawn Stussy began scrawling his surname on his handcrafted surfboards with a broad tipped marker. He began using the logo on T-shirts, shorts and caps that he sold out of his car around Laguna Beach, Califor nia. The signature was derived from that of his uncle, Jan Stussy.
In 1984, Stussy and his friend, Frank Sinatra Jr. (not related to the singer), partnered to sell the apparel. The compa ny expanded to Europe by 1988 and later opened a boutique store in SoHo, New York. The brand continued to open success ful locations throughout the 1990s. It was reported that revenues reached $17 million in 1991 and $20 million in 1992. By 1992, the brand was sold throughout the United States at specialty boutiques and depart ment stores alongside other high-priced "California lifestyle" clothing. Outside of the country, the brand was found in specialty shops alongside clothing from high-end international designers.

In 1996, Stussy resigned as president of the company and Sinatra bought his share of the company holdings. According to the company's website, the brand is available in company branded stores and other retailers in Europe, Asia, the United States, Canada and Australia The early success of the brand has been attributed to its popularity in the hip-hop and DJ scenes. The brand was also embraced by skaters, punks, hipsters, and other street subcultures. In a 1992 interview Stussy said: "Everybody calls it surf wear, or urban street wear, or surf street... I don't name it, and I don't name it on purpose."

STUSSY X MARVEL : opening party DJ PETE ROCK In brightest day, in blackest night… when Marvel and Stussy did unite! The Stussy x Marvel Ultimate Teamup launch took place at Meltdown Comics in LA, showcasing their new range of graphic tees. Visual masterminds Mr. Cartoon, graffer Todd James, James Jarvis, Bill Plympton, Gary Panter and animator John K put their handiwork on show, reinterpreting your favourite Marvel characters with their own idiosyncratic style. Hordes of costumed fans packed out what was an animated launch night! The Stussy x Marvel tees are available now online from Stussy. Rap royalty Pete Rock recently played the Stussy x Marvel launch party at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles. Pete Rock is not only an accomplished DJ/Producer/Rapper but is also a big comic book head. We caught up with Pete at Forbidden Planet comic book shop in New York City to discuss his deep love for comics and hip hop’s connection to superheroes. The Stussy x Marvel Series 1 Tees (The Ultimate Teamup) and Series 2 Tees (Special Edition Artist Series) were released in May 2011 Still on the road to recovery, I’ve been slightly reclusive and staying in mostly, but I had to hit up the Stussy x Marvel Comics launch party when I got an invite this week from my buddy Stephanie. The brand took over Meltdown Comics’ party space and threw a super fun bash fit for a super hero. 4

STUSSY X Marvel : Ultimate Team Up On April 27th, Stussy will be releasing Series One of the collaboration with the legendary Marvel Comics. Series One includes nine designs featuring some of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes mixed with Stussy’s iconic graphic language. Series Two will release on May 6th featuring nine guest artists interpreting their favorite characters from the Marvel Universe. Each purchase will include a limited edition pack of Stussy x Marvel trading cards, while supplies last. The Stussy x Marvel Series 1 Tees (The Ultimate Teamup) and Series 2 Tees (Special Edition Artist Series) were released in April 2011 The first series Stussy x Marvel The Ultimate Teamup will be released on April 27th and combines vintage Marvel characters with definitive Stussy designs. These styles feature the looks from rare and collectible comic books and posters with Marvel superheroes such as Wolverine, Silver Surfer, Punisher, Ghost Rider, Doctor Octopus, Doctor Doom and Captain America.

The Stussy x Marvel : Special Edition Artist The Stussy x Marvel Series 2 Special Edition Artist Series features original work by a team of international artists, invited to interpret their favorite Marvel characters in their signature styles. The artists and characters include James Jarvis (Thing), David Shrigley (Incredible Hulk), Todd James (She Hulk), Noah Butkus (Dr. Strange), Will Sweeney (Eternity), John K. (Crystal & Johnny Storm), Bill Plympton (Mystique), Gary Panter (Thor) and Mr. Cartoon (Spiderman).
