APPLE A Dream Coming True

Of all the devices secured by Cashify through official trade-in partnerships, a whopping 30% are Apple devices.

Surprisingly, despite this price mismatch, iPhone 13 bagged the position of India’s top-selling model in 2022. This could be indicative of India’s growing preference for premium devices. According to Counterpoint, iPhone 13 became the first iPhone to lead overall Indian smartphone shipments for a quarter, achieving this milestone in Q3 of 2022.

Apple continued its record-breaking streak in 2022, rising from fourth place in 2021 to second place in terms of revenue share in the Indian smartphone market, with a 25% share. In Q1 & Q2 of 2022, Apple maintained its dominance in the premium smartphone segment, aided by attractive deals on iPhone 12 and 13 models.

The company's year-on-year growth in Q2 was an impressive 63%. However, this massive jump was largely because the demand had slumped in Q2 2021 due to COVID-19 second wave.

In Q3, Apple achieved a 5% market share, its highest ever in the Indian market, and also topped the list of shipment share with 40% phones belonging to Apple. In Q4, it led both the premium and ultra-premium price segments, registering the highest shipment value of the quarter. Backed by the success of the newly launched iPhone 14 & last year’s iPhone 13, Apple registered a sale of 2 million iPhones in Q4 of 2022.

These achievements were driven by Apple's lucrative festive season deals, expansion of local manufacturing capabilities, and a push into the offline market. Local manufacturing in particular saw impressive numbers, with shipments increasing by 65% YoY by volume and 162% YoY by value, boosting its value share to 25% in 2022 from 12% in 2021.

iPhones are widely coveted in the Indian market. However, due to their high price tags, many price-sensitive Indian consumers struggle to afford them. But, when it comes to choosing a premium or ultra-premium segment phone, Apple remains the first choice.

With the inauguration of new offline Apple stores and the launch of iPhone SE 2022, let’s see what laurels 2023 brings for the Cupertino giant.

Of all the smartphones sold to Cashify in 2022, iPhones accounted for just over 18%, making it the second most sold brand. iPhone 7 was the most-sold iPhone model for two consecutive years, but in 2022, iPhone XR claimed the top spot with a sales share of 12.81%.

Interestingly, Bangaloreans sold the highest number of iPhones to Cashify at nearly 11%, followed by Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad, which accounted for roughly 10%, 9%, and 7% of iPhones sold to Cashify, respectively.
