RAMARA FIRE & RESCUE HOLIDAY FIRE SAFETY TIPS with

12 Tips to Help You Stay Safe this Holiday Season:

Check all lights before decorating. Cut your loss and toss damaged strings to help prevent electrical fires

Use flameless candles. Fire caused by candles are very common during the holiday season. Ditch the risk and use battery operated candles.

Have working smoke alarms.

An alarm on every storey, tested monthly and batteries replaced annually, is probably the best gift you can give your family this season.

Install carbon monoxide alarms.

CO alarm alerts you to a potential CO emergency with four beeps and is the best way to protect your family from the silent killer.

Water fresh trees daily.

Be weary of heat sources near the tree including furnace vents and non-LED lights.

Never overload electrical outlets. Avoid overloading the circuit and never run extension cords under a rug.

Supervise children in the kitchen. Make sure to keep an eye on those litter bakers and never leave the oven unattended.

Plan and practice a home escape plan. Santa needs one way out of your houseyou need two!

Stay in the kitchen while cooking. Fires caused by cooking mostly happen when the stove is left unattended so be mindful when cooking.

Give heat sources 1 metre of space. Keep at least one metre (3 feet) distance between your heat source and combustibles, like paper and fabrics.

Fully extinguish all smoking material. This season, have all smoking done outside using deep, sturdy ashtrays.

Charge lithium-ion batteries safely. Always monitor the toy or device when it is charging; read the manufacturer's instructions for safe charging & do not exceed the recommended charging time.
