True Champions

At the core of the existence of Ralph Wilson Youth Club is providing programs rich in quality and affordable to the youth of the Greater Temple Community. The Board of Directors of Ralph Wilson Youth Club set a target amount each year to receive from our Club Champions program. Over the duration of the past four fiscal years, the Club Champions of Ralph Wilson Youth Club have surpassed this targeted amount. The Club Champions program represents a COMMITMENT to fine arts, academics and athletics offered through the youth club.

As the youth club approaches its ten-year anniversary (2025), the Club Champions program will play a huge role in the ability of the youth club to address issues related to the growth and aging of the facility. It is also important that the Club Champions program grows to include the next wave of caregivers for the youth club. Not only do we need our loyal Club Champions to remain committed to supporting the youth club, but we also need YOU to help us recruit new members to our valued Club Champions program.

The tradition of Ralph Wilson Youth Club spans 58 years. Countless youth have benefitted from the experiences of Ralph Wilson Youth Club. Help us keep the tradition alive and well by renewing your commitment to being a Club Champion.

Spring Break 2023

Every year spring break brings an opportunity for area youth to experience the Ralph Wilson Youth Club Spring Break program. The youth club’s program provides full day service to area youth. The full day program is important in that it provides a safe and structured environment for our area’s youth. 175 youth participated in this year’s program.

Participants had access to four field trips and an end of week celebration at the youth club. Activities included bowling, laser tag, trampoline jumping, and skating. The end of week celebration featured a series of bounce houses and various other games for the youth.

CMB Makes a Splash

The 27th Craig Bukosky Junior Golf Open was held on March 26, at Wildflower Country Club. The annual event offered golfing opportunities to youth in 12 divisions of play for kids ages 5-18. Ninety-five golfers competed in this year’s tournament. The Bukosky Junior Golf Open provides a rich golf experience for all participants. The experience includes 9-18 holes of golf dependent on age, lunch, 1st – 3rd place awards and bags full of golf swag for all participants.

Colby Connor captured the Overall Male Winner with a score of 72. Khloe Yepez captured the Overall Female Winner with a score of 75. Connor stated at the tournament’s end, “My driver and irons were really sharp today. My putter got a little shaky on the back and that hurt my card. The walk on this course is tough and that impacted my back nine performance."

Despite not being in the tournament’s elder division, Yepez managed to post a score superior to those her senior. "My driver and wedges were really good today," stated Yepez. "A recent lesson really benefited me today." When asked about the most memorable thing about the Bukosky event, Yepez responded "The snow cones are amazing and being able to play with my sister makes it fun."

The Bukosky event continues to be a strong local event that raises funds for a great cause. Much like the after school and summer programs at Ralph Wilson Youth Club, the Bukosky event is priced at a point that makes participation reasonable for all youth of our community.

Staff Spotlight

Ralph Wilson Youth Club is a special place for our kids based on the special relationships that are fostered between our kids and staff.

For the past four years our kids have had the opportunity to get to know and interact with Owen Duffield. During this time Owen has gone from a newbie staff member to arguably the face of what it means to be a RWYC staff member. Owen has held positions from junior staffer, bus monitor, hall monitor and most recently staff lead and control center coordinator.

However, as is the case with many of our young staff, they become an integral part of our youth club family, only to mature and venture off to new opportunities. April 6, 2023 was Owen's last day as a youth club employee. Owen accepted a full-time job within his family's business and is starting the next phase of his life.

Ralph Wilson Youth Club recognized Owen during our monthly Boy and Girl of the Month Ceremony. In a big surprise to Owen, he was presented with a plaque for his years of service and various tokens of appreciation for his exemplary service to the kids of our community. Kids joined in a thunderous chant of 'Owen, Owen, Owen!' The spirit in which they shouted the chant speaks to his impact on kids.

Owen is now employed with CenTex Printing. If you get a chance, visit him at his new place of employment and provide him the opportunity to be of service to you.

2023 Winter Basketball League

2023 was yet another record-breaking year for the youth club’s basketball program. The program provided a memorable basketball experience for 1,208 players. These players competed in 504 games and were distributed amongst 145 teams. The league continues to be the premier opportunity for area youth ages 5-12 to learn and develop their basketball skills.

Craig Buksoky Sportsmanship Award

The Bukosky Sportsmanship Award is presented on an annual basis to a male and female athlete that participates in one of the youth club’s athletic programs. For over twenty years, Ralph Wilson Youth Club has awarded the Bukosky Sportsmanship Award to a male and female participant in the youth club’s athletic programs. The Bukosky Sportsmanship Award is awarded to athletes that model fairness, positivity, and respect towards all players, coaches, and officials.

The 2023 male winner of the Bukosky Sportsmanship Award is Carter Johnson. Carter has competed in youth club basketball since the age of 5. Carter can best be described as a great teammate and competitor.

Colleen Dewbre is the 2023 female Bukosky Sportsmanship Award winner. Colleen is a standout volleyball and basketball player at the youth club. She led her teams to undefeated seasons in both sports. The daughter of a coach, Colleen can best be described as a team leader.

Ralph Wilson Youth Club takes pride in providing as many special opportunities as possible for our youth. A select group of basketball players were blessed with the opportunity to showcase their basketball skills at halftime of area basketball games. Temple College and the University of Mary Hardin Baylor were gracious enough to allow our youth to play exhibition games at halftime of their basketball games during the 2022-2023 season.
