Where Everyone Feels At Home! Hard to believe a whole year has past and we are setting up for another fun ďŹ lled Swartz Creek Hometown Days. As you read through this brochure you will agree we have a “Bigger and Betterâ€? festival for the 35,000 plus attendees from Swartz Creek and surrounding communities in Genesee and Shiawassee counties. This year we have so many new and improved features. Thursday Arnold’s Amusements opens and we host the Andy Maybik, Jr. Special Day for Special Needs event to allow some very special people to enjoy our festival. There are Several weekend long main events this year: Whispering Pines Traveling Zoo(look for a new 500 bird exhibit and the Camel rides are back) presented by Hometown Days. The entertaining Victor Kent Family Show is brought to you by Financial Plus. The Great Lakes Agricultural Fair is brings a fresh Michigan agricultural livestock and commodity exhibits. Friday, Randy Wise Auto Mall has teamed up with Arnold’s Amuse-

ments for FREE Carnival rides from 6:00 am to 8:00 am, immediately followed by the ďŹ rst ever FREE Hometown Farm Breakfast and Agricultural Education Exhibits. This event is sponsored by Genesee County Farm Bureau. We expect our biggest crowd ever to ride FREE and eat FREE to celebrate NO SCHOOL FRIDAY!! Friday night you won’t want to miss Swartz Creek’s BIGGEST FIREWORKS DISPLAY EVER brought to you by Patsy Lou Auto Group. Please sit in the bleachers for the best view of the ďŹ ery ground effects start up.

Saturday the Sharp Funeral Homes Hometown Parade kicks off at a new time 10:00 am, please help spread the word. Everything opens at noon. The car show along Fortino Drive begins at 1:00 pm. Sunday the JustiďŹ ed Quartet and Rob Mills Family Concert at the PAC. Volunteering builds a strong community and nobody knows this better than Susie Kietzman the Hometown Days Volunteer Director. Kietzman is quick to say that every single volunteer is an important member of her extended family. She doesn’t let anyone working with her forget how special they are for supporting Hometown Days. Kietzman insists that her team of volunteers help make this festival the number one Festival in Genesee county and maybe even in Michigan. The volunteers are

the “heart” this success. Kietzman sends two shout outs to her community; one to thank all the dedicated volunteers and her fantastic community members that support the festival; the second is a request, anyone who wants to donate food, snacks and water please call Susie Kietzman at (810) 577-6238. 7th Annual Hometown Days Pet Awareness and Adoption Tent 5IVSTEBZ .BZ UI UISPVHI 4VOEBZ +VOF TU The Pet Tent will again be a big part of this year’s Swartz Creek Hometown Days. The Pet Awareness and Adoption Tent is Swartz Creek Hometown Days. Pet rescues groups, such as Care and Friends of Genesee County, come to the Hometown Days Pet Tent to find suitable, permanent homes for their fostered dogs and cats. They also sell items such as T-shirts and crafts to raise money for shelter, food and the medical care of other homeless animals. Linda Garland-Molpus, the director of the Pet Tent works at Sam’s Club and began holding pet adoptions

in front of the Club about 10 years ago. When she was invited to try the venue at Swartz Creek Hometown Days, she jumped at the chance. The event has grown every year. Garland-Molpus explained, “I’m very glad that the Pet Awareness and Adoption Tent has been a success. Hopefully, people will continue to visit the tent and, with any luck, find an awesome, new pet. We would really love to be here for many more years. It’s such a great cause.”

Hometown Parade Saturday May 31st 10:00 am (not 12:00 noon!) Along Miller Road Everybody loves a parade, and the Hometown Days Parade Director Wanda Cummings has organized a fabulous parade this year. The big news for this years parade is that it will begin two hours earlier than in previous years. The parade will begin at 10:00 am, not at noon. Again, Saturday’s parade begins at 10:00 am. This new time allows everyone more time to enjoy all the incredible events after the parade. This years’ parade announcers are Joel Feick from NBC 25 and Randy Swain from ABC 12. The parade

is sponsored by Sharp Funeral Homes, with locations in Swartz Creek, Fenton, Linden and Grand Blanc Township. This years parade Grand Marshals are Paul Bueche and Jim Bleau. Bueche is the retired City Manager of Swartz Creek. Bleau is a retired Assistant Superintendent in Charge of Instruction for Swartz Creek Community Schools. Parade participants please note that the line up will be back at the High School this year and will be coming out the Performing Arts

Meet the 2014 Hometown Days Parade Co-Grand Marshals!

Jim Bleu

One of this years Co-Grand Marshals for the Hometown Days Parade is Jim Bleu. Bleu recently retired from the Swartz Creek Community School District after more than 16 years of service as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Business Services. Bleu has been involved with the Hometown Days almost since the day he set foot in Swartz Creek. In his position at the school district he helped coordinate the use of some of the school’s facilities and grounds for Hometown Days events. He felt then and still feels today that Hometown Days is a great way to showcase the Swartz Creek Community at large. Bleu stated that he loves Hometown Days because, “people come together from the community to celebrate the talent and the accomplishments of the community�. After returning home, Bleu earned a master’s degree while interning at Bear Lake Schools for one year. He then went on to develop and support community and adult education programs for different school districts and was the Business Manager for the Huron School District in Wayne County before settling in Swartz Creek.

One of this years Co-Grand Marshals for the Homeyown Days Parade is Paul Bueche. Bueche recently retired from the position of Swartz Creek City Manager. He served the City of Swartz Creek for 38 years. Bueche started his public service career when he was hired as a police ofďŹ cer in the fall of 1977. In 1985 he was promoted to Sergeant and 10 years later he was made Chief of Police. In 2002, after serving as a part time City Manager he was appointed by the City Council as the full time City manager. Hometown Days was just one of the many events he supported over the years. Bueche has been instrumental in supporting a working relationship with the city. According to Larry Bush, Hometown Days Director, Bueche has been with Hometown Days since the beginning and he brings his “positive community spiritâ€? to this event year after year. Bueche has worked countless hours both in and out of his ofďŹ ce supporting and serving his community over the past 38 years. Even in retirement he continues to serve to this day.

Great Lakes Agricultural Fair May 29th to June 1st Swartz Creek Hometown Days and the Great Lakes Agricultural Fair are jointly announcing their collaboration at this year’s Hometown Festival May 29th, 30th, 31st, June 1st.
