NRIs on electoral rolls soon, single card for diaspora: PM I

ndia will merge the two visa facilitation cards that are issued to people of Indian origin and soon register non-resident Indians in the electoral rolls to help them exercise their franchise, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Saturday. “We recently reviewed the Overseas Citizenship of India Card and Person of Indian Origin Card. We have decided to merge them into one,” the prime minister told the 9th edition of India’s annual event to connect with its 25-million-strong diaspora in 130 nations. Both these cards are issued to people who are of Indian origin but not its citizens. But for some subtle differences on matters such as fee and processing time, there are little differences between them. The diaspora, accordingly, wanted them to be merged. The prime minister also said necessary amendments had been made to extend voting rights to nonresidents to enable them exercise their franchise. “New legal provision will give them legitimate right to participate in Indian electoral process,” he said. “I am sure they will bring a breath of fresh air to Indian polity.”

The prime minister was addressing what is formally called Pravasi Bharatiya Divas that was attended by some 1,500 delegates from 51 countries. New Zealand GovernorGeneral Anand Satyanand was the chief guest. Others who spoke at the inaugural event included Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi, Minister for Development of North Eastern Region B.K. Handique and Overseas Indian Affairs Secretary A. Didar Singh. The prime minister said the past year was a busy one for India, with leaders of all nations that are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council — China, France, Russia, Britain and the US, visiting New Delhi. “India’s rise as emerging nation is a positive indication for international relations,” he said, adding: “Our unique experience of tackling development, challenges, building consensus among different sections has been remarkable. We will seek to promote what is good for India and good for the world.” The prime minister said during his visits to various countries in the past years, he was particularly pleased when its leaders lauded the role

address the long-standing demand of non-resident citizens to enable them to exercise their franchise. “I am happy to say non-resident Indians will be able to enrol themselves for voting.” Sir Satyanand said people of Indian origin who migrated to distant lands thousands of miles away over the past few centuries have never forgotten their roots. “To this day, they remain proud of their Indian heritage.” He said till 1976 the strength of the Indian diaspora in New Zealand numbered 6,300. But today, their numbers had swelled to over 100,000 people, to make them second largest Asian ethnic group in the South Pacific nation.

played by the Indian community in their land of domicile. “The richness of India’s classical tradition and the contemporary Indian culture is making waves around the world.” He also unveiled the foundation stone for the Pravasi Bharatiya

Kendra here and hoped it will fulfil its envisaged role of becoming a focal point for engagement between India and its vast diaspora. Earlier, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Ravi told the delegates that India had already amended the Representation of People Act to

“The 25 million diaspora, the second largest expatriate community in the world, can give a powerful support to India in its ongoing path towards development. We should give our continued support to this diaspora.” Satyanand also hoped that the free trade agreement being negotiated between the two countries will fructify soon, as it had the potential to enhance bilateral economic engagement to a new level.

Patil calls on India, US to work together for world peace P resident Pratibha Patil has said both the US and India have a profound responsibility to work together for peace, stability and security in the world. In her speech at a State banquet hosted in honour of U.S President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, Patil said there were many ties that bound the two nations together. “Nearly three million Indian people in the United States act as a bridge of friendship, including over 100,000 Indian students in the United States, who along with the growing number of young Americans coming to India, are sowing the seeds of future partnerships. Our enterprises, scientists, engineers, technologists and academics are creating partnerships that generate hope for the future,” she added. “We have enormous potential to work together for a sustainable and inclusive global economic development, to address the challenges of infrastructure, clean energy, food security and health security, and educate and empower the youth, especially our women, for the responsibilities of the new era,” she said. “The two nations are well placed to harness the power of innovation, not

only for technological leadership and global competitiveness, but also as a tool for economic empowerment and social transformation,” she added. Patil expressed her pleasure about the initiatives announced which will not benefit only people of the two nations but also fulfil responsibility to humankind. ” We have the humility to know that we do not have all the answers, but we have the strength of our values and the benefit of our experience to make our own modest contribution to this cause,” she said. “We must continue our joint efforts to reform global institutions to reflect contemporary realities, and increase their effectiveness in meeting current challenges, she added. This is a time of great challenges in the world, but never has the opportunity been greater, the environment better, and the need more urgent for our two countries to work together and lead global efforts

Referring to the civil nuclear initiative, President Patil said: “It is an instrument and a symbol of transformed relations.” “The historic civil nuclear initiative is an instrument and a symbol of our transformed relations. But, across virtually every field of human endeavour, we have explored new frontiers and redefined the paradigm of co-operation,” she added.

ollowing the alleged corruption charges against the ruling UPA and some of its alliances, the main opposition party BJP is gearing up to sit at the Centre. The senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said that BJP’s two-day national executive meet would concentrate on bringing NDA back at the Centre. Besides this, the other issues like terrorism, inflation and Bangladeshi infiltration into Assam would also be discussed. “The party will discuss in-depth strategy to bring the NDA back in Delhi as an alternative to the UPA,” Naidu was quoted as saying. He also said that issue of price rise would be raised in the Parliament ‘to ensure that effective measures are taken to tackle it’. Besides, the party is confident that it would win in Assam Assembly polls just as it won the Bihar Assembly elections. “We have won in Bihar and now we will do the same in Assam,” BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said. The two-day executive meet was held in the North-East. The meet was inaugurated by party president Nitin Gadkari. Senior party leaders including L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh, Karnataka CM B.S. Yeddyurappa, Chattisgarh CM Raman Kumar, Himachal Pradesh CM P K Dhumal, Jharkhand CM Arjun Munda and Uttarakhand CM R.P. Nishank attended the meeting.

umbai, Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Wednesday said there was a need to set up an ‘independent body’ to keep a check on corruption and financial scams. ‘Agencies that are supposed to check the scams are also involved in the same scams. We need to have people of character and honesty to check corruption. Such a body must be positioned independent from the government,’ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar told reporters. ‘It should be set up to check the wrong doings in all spheres of public life,’ the spiritual leader said.

Talking about the government, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said that it must concentrate more on ‘gross domestic happiness’ rather than ‘gross domestic product’. ‘There should be prosperity with happiness. Greed comes because of insecurity...lack of religiousness has resulted in corruption,’ he said. The spiritual guru lauded the role of media in exposing the scams and said that without the media acting as a public watchdog, such ills would have been buried unnoticed.

Swami Nithyananda Blackmailed 95-year-old MF Husain’s new muse: By A Journalist Over Sex Tape Anushka Sharma With Actress Ranjitha

I

t is reported that during investigations it was found that before Swami Nithyananda’s sex videotape with actress Ranjitha was flashed, he was being blackmailed by a journalist. Swami Nithyananda reportedly accepted while questioning that a blackmailer received a hefty amount of 1.4 million pounds to bar flashing the controversial video where he is seen in a compromising situation with the actress. According to sources, the Swami confessed that last year a journalist came to him saying that the sex video is with him and if Nithyananda doesn’t pay him 3.5 million pounds then it will be flashed by the media. However, after much negotiation, the deal was finalised at 1.4 million pounds which was paid to the journalist. The sex tape was later leaked where Nithyananda was seen with Tamil actress Ranjitha and it became one of the most controversial videos last year and came as a shock for his disciples.

Onion prices may soar as Pakistan bans export via border

O

T

he new year has just begun and actor Priyanka Chopra sure looks like she has a lot to look forward to. Vishal Bharadwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf will be her first release this year followed by Don 2, Anurag Basu’s Silence and Krrish 2.

nion woes are likely to continue in India with Pakistan deciding to stop sending the commodity through the Attari-Wagah border check-post and also cutting down on the quantity due to a shortage in that country, an official said. According to a communication received from Pakistan’s commerce ministry, onions will not come through the land route but instead the rail route. “We yesterday (Wednesday) got the news that Pakistan has decided to stop sending onions through land route and will opt for goods train,” trader Rajdeep Uppal, who is Amritsar Exports and Imports Chamber vice president, told IANS here. “They have also decided to cut down the exports. The decision can be attributed to the shortage of onions in their own market,” he added. Uppal said every day around 50 onion-laden trucks were coming to India since Dec 21, except on holidays. Each truck carried 10 to 12 tonnes of onions. R.K. Duggal, deputy commissioner (customs), Attari, confirmed the ban on exports through the border. “Yes, we have received this communication but they (Pakistan) have not cited any reason behind this move,” he said. Traders were apprehensive whether Pakistan would also stop

exporting through the rail route. “We came to know that they have also stopped exporting through rail route. But we are not sure about it and are trying to confirm it from the authorities concerned,” Uppal said. With onion prices touching Rs.100 a kg in some parts of the country last month, Indian traders started buying it from Pakistan at Rs.300-350 a quintal. Most of the onions coming to India are from Pakistan’s Sindh province. However, according to traders the quality of the Pakistani onion is not as good as that produced in India. “We are surprised by this sudden decision of Pakistan. Yesterday

(Wednesday), over 270 trucks, loaded with onions, were waiting at the border to cross into India. But majority of them were called back and only 78 trucks reached here,” importer Maninder Singh said. “We are never in favour of onion trade through goods trains. It is comparatively slow and more expensive. We are afraid that this development could again escalate the onion prices in India,” he added. Majority of imported onions from Pakistan are being consumed in different parts of Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh at a cost of Rs.40 to 50 per kg.

India likely to face foodgrain shortage by 2020: ICAR DDG Bhubaneswar: India is likely to face acute shortage of food grains by 2020, if it does not take immediate and concrete measures, warns the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). “India needs to prepare itself in advance as foodgrain scarcity is likely by 2020,” said Swapan K Dutta, the deputy director general (DDG) of ICAR, at the India International Crop Summit, 2011 here. Though the country in 2009 produced 100 million tons of rice, it would require about 130 MT of rice in 2020 while requirement of wheat would reach 110 MT in 2020 against production of only 80 MT in 2009, he said. The country would also face acute shortage of pulses and oil seeds in 2020, Dutta said adding the demand for pulses and oil seeds would increase by 140 per cent and 243 per cent respectively. While there was demand for more food grains by 2020, rice yields could fall by 15 per cent to 42 per cent, wheat by 34 per cent due to possible drought, salinity and submergence, an ICAR report said adding net

Gautham Gambhir’s Price = Rs. 11.04 Cr

agriculture revenue would decline by 12.3 per cent if temperature changes by 2 degree Celsius and rainfall by just 7 per cent. As such, the country was not selfsufficient in production of pulses and oil seeds even today. Therefore, Dutta said, India needed to pass Seed Bill, which was likely to be tabled in Parliament in next session.

The draft Bill had been finalised with provision of compulsory registration of all varieties of seeds, level playing field for all stake holders, operationalisation of seed certification, deregulation, consideration of GM seeds and establishment of National Seed Board.

Varun Gandhi comes out in support of jailed MLA Raja Bhaiyya B

Abhi Kiske Saath Hai Tu: Salman asks Katrina after a kiss Recent reports about the two sharing a chat outside Salman Khan’s vanity van and Salman pulling katrina’s leg by jokingly asking in Hindi with whom was she these days, has created quite an amusement amongst their fans.

areilly: BJP leader Varun Gandhi today came out in support of controversial independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya, jailed for allegedly threatening to kill a candidate in local polls, claiming that he was being implicated in false cases. “Raja Bhaiyya is being implicated in false cases which will not stand in the court of law. Gangster Act has been invoked against him wrongly,” Varun told reporters after meeting the MLA from Pratapgarh, who is currently lodged in central jail here. The BJP national secretary said that “a case of theft of Rs 25,000 had been lodged against a person, who belongs to a royal family. He had been arrested in abduction of a person, whose even name and address is not known. “This has been done against a person, who was a senior minister

and has a political status. This is an insult of not only Raja Bhaiyya, but the people of Pratapgarh as a whole,” Varun said after an over hour long meeting with the MLA, who was arrested last month.

He alleged that there were a number of MLAs in the BSP who were accused of serious crimes but Gangster Act was not invoked against them. Meanwhile, an outfit Akhil Bhartiya Chhatriya Mahasabha today said it will launch an agitation from January 21 to protest the MLA’s arrest. Raja Bhaiyya along with SP MP Shailendra Kumar, MLA Vinod Saroj and MLC Akshay Pratap Singh alias Gopalji and seven others were arrested in Pratapgarh on December 19. The arrests came after an FIR was registered on a complaint of Manoj Kumar Shukla, BSP candidate for Babuganj block head post. Raja Bhaiyya and Gopalji were shifted to Bareilly jail from Pratapgarh prison on December 26 night. All the arrested are currently lodged in different jails in judicial custody.

Tarred UPA plans map BMW emerges as top luxury car in India in 2010 for the big clean-up

N

ew Delhi: Germany’s BMW on Monday said it maintained its lead over rivals MercedesBenz and Audi to remain the top luxury carmaker in India in 2010, with sales of 6,246 units. BMW India, which saw 73 per cent growth in sales during the year, enjoys over an 40 per cent share of the luxury car market in the country, which is estimated at around 15,000 units per annum. “In terms of the sales growth rate, India was among the top three markets for BMW after China, which saw over 80 per cent growth. India and Korea followed it (China) at around the same level,” said BMW India President Andreas Schaaf. Schaaf said the total number of BMW cars sold in India in 2010 exceeded the company’s target of 4,200 units. “2010 was an exceptional year for BMW

“2010 was an exceptional year for BMW in India and the market will continue to grow and we want to stay number one, as we do not want to give up that position,” in India and I am not sure if we can repeat it, but the market will continue to grow and we want to stay number one, as we do not want to give up that position,” Schaaf added.

N

ew Delhi: Under attack in a slew of corruption cases, the UPA has decided to come out with, in the next two months, a transparent public procurement policy, a system of fast-tracking cases of corruption against public servants, a check on discretionary powers of ministers and a clear stand on state funding of elections. These issues, as part of its terms of reference, are to be addressed by the eight-member Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee that was set up last week.

The other members include Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Defence Minister A K Antony, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, Law Minister Veerappa Moily, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal and Chemicals and Fertilisers minister M K Azhagiri. The GoM is seen by the Opposition as an attempt by the UPA to offset the criticism over its initial reluctance to take action against A Raja in the 2G spectrum scam and the subsequent refusal of the government to set up a JPC probe, as well as the CWG and Adarsh scandals.

Ganguly a victim of politics: Somnath Chatterjee

M

I eat pizzas, french fries and chocolates: Kareena Kareena says, People often wonder whether I eat an orange for lunch. But that isn’t the case. I eat pasta, pizzas, french fries and even chocolates on occasions. However, I have been taught by my dietitian how to eat right. I control the quantities, do upto 40 surya namaskars and stay this way.”

ass support poured in from all quarters for city’s star son and former India captain Sourav Ganguly as more effigies of Shah Rukh Khan and Kolkata Knight Riders were burnt in the streets here today after all the 10 franchises had rejected the iconic cricketer for IPL IV. Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee said the ace left-hander was a victim of politics by the private teams who had opted not to bid for Ganguly during the twoday IPL players auctions that eneded in Bangalore yesterday. “It’s really sad and unfair that a player of Ganguly’s calibre was not allowed to play despite his wish. It was very clear from the auction that the IPL franchises intentionally did it,” Chatterjee said. “Don’t forget that he is an immensely popular figure all over the world and that’s why he is called ‘Dada’ by his fans. He is the most successful Indian cricket captain and there should not be any doubt over his ability,” he said. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) also came in Ganguly’s and

said the news came as a shock to them. “We are shocked to hear this. The fan following of the team will definitely get affected without

Ganguly. He is a big factor for KKR. Crowd will definitely lose interest in the team,” CAB joint-secretary Sujan Mukherjee said. Carefully choosing his words, Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary, who

has been bought by KKR, said: “It was very surprising to see that no team bid for Ganguly.” Bengal wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha, who has been snapped by Chennai Super Kings, did not want to comment but said: “It would have been better if Ganguly was in the IPL.” Table tennis star Soumyadeep Roy also batted for Ganguly, saying: “I’m a huge fan of Dada. I look up to him as a great sportsperson. I don’t know about the technicalities of auction but it’s a setback for me that I won’t get to see him in IPL IV.” There was a mass outcry in the city with various groups burning effigies and posters of Kolkata Knight Riders principal owner Shah Rukh Khan, even as Ganguly remained incommunicado throughout the day opting to stay indoors at his Behala residence. “No Dada, no KKR. Shah Rukh Khan is responsible for all this. We will boycott all KKR matches,” said a group in Maidan burning the Bollywood heartthrob’s poster.

is observed in their memory and the Prime Minister moves ahead to the main dais at Rajpath. The President joins him/her there along with the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. The Chief Guest is usually the Head of State or Government from a foreign nation. The President hoists the flag and soon, the National Anthem is played. This is followed by a 21 gun salute.

symbolically saluting the President. The parade is telecasted live on the national television, allowing the entire nation to view it. Lastly, the crowd stands up as the National Anthem is played. However, this is not the end of the Republic Day celebrations. It is, in fact, a threeday extravaganza, where on the 27th January, the creme of the NCC cadets hold a Prime Minister’s rally. A wide variety of breath-taking performances and drills make the highlights. All the major government buildings are beautifully illuminated with lights every evening from 26th to 29th January. On the third day after Republic Day, that is 29th, ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony is conducted consisting of massed bands marching to the popular tunes. The Drummer’s Call follows wherein the drummers give solo performances. Thereafter, the Bugle Call follows which is characterized by the band master walking up to the President requesting to take the bands away. This marks the end of the closing ceremony of Republic Day. At 6 pm, the buglers sound the retreat and the National Flag is lowered. With this, the Republic Day celebrations are formally ended.

Shahrukh wants his Kingdom back

Thai action for Salman’s

READY

A

fter lying low for a while, SRK is inching back to battlefield Bollywood. Having made the necessary corrections, patch-ups and plans, the King has just one thing in mind---to get his Kingdom back. Over the last few years, SRK has been on the receiving end of the silver screen coup. But, the game is fast changing in his favour. SRK is ready to conquer yet again. Having settled his score with his detractors and having a slew of releases by his side this calendar, it can be safely said that SRK is back with a bang. RA.ONE, DON 2 - THE CHASE CONTINUES, KRRISH 2 and his film with Vishal Bharadwaj are part of this larger game plan. SRK has done his homework well and is revealing his cards slowly now. A close hand reveals, “Those who thought that SRK is de-throned completely better have a guarded stand. All the while he was missing from the scene; SRK was plotting his way back to the top. Though, he might be gracious enough to acknowledge the ones who scored over him at the box office in recent times but this does not mean that the King does not want his Kingdom back.” With SRK in the active mode, it’s time for competition to change to the idle mode.

Bhushan Kumar’s READY promises action and entertainment like never before. The makers have roped in world renowned Thai action director Mr. Seelum Pradit aka Nung who has earned laurels internationally thanks to his work in MOUNTAIN TIGER, TREASURE ISLAND, RESCUE DAWN, THE MAGNIFICIENT FIVE and MARINE 2 to work on the film starring superstar Salman Khan. Along with Indian action director Mahendra Verma the Thai action team, spearheaded by Seelum Pradit, are working towards achieving international levels of action sequences. Says a source “The Thai action team are experts in rigging, flying effects and High End stunts. They also understand the Indian sensibilities and the kind of action that would appeal to our masses since Pradit has also worked on the Thumps Up ads. Salman fans are in for a treat since they will witness him in a unique action avatar on par international standards.” Adds Bhushan Kumar, “I was always looking for a script which has everything and I found that in READY. The film has lots of humour, there are mind-blowing action sequences which Salman fans will love, there are a lot of dramatic sequences. We also have good scope for music. In short it’s a total masala entertainer with proper story and screenplay.”

BOLLYWOOD MUSIC Music Review :

DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI C

CHANDNI BAR, SATTA, PAGE 3, CORPORATE and FASHION. Just some of the critically acclaimed and award winning films by Madhur Bhandarkar. Known more for his socially relevant hard-hitting films that take a dig at the high society it was but natural that there were not many memorable musical scores in them apart from a few, namely in PAGE 3 (Lata’s “Kitne Ajeeb Rishte”) and of course FASHION where Salim-Sulaiman did a commendable job. Its signature tune is still quite a favourite at many fashion shows. However DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI sees a different side of Bhandarkar. It’s a light hearted romantic comedy, an all out commercial entertainer. And since the focus is on romance it’s but natural that the intelligent director and the enterprising producer, Kumar Mangat , have entrusted Pritam , the king of melody with the responsibility of composing the music. Here he has the support of quite a few of his favourite lyricists like Sayeed Quadri, Neelesh Misra, Kumaar and Sanjay Chhel. Only Irshad Kamil seems to be missing!

No One Killed Jessica Naturally expectations abound from this album too, especially after the tumultuous success of Pritam-Ajay-Emraan’s last venture, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI . So let’s plug in and get going! Director : Madhur Bhandarkar

ase Reopens...Again!!! Jessica Lall high-profile murder case was one daunting chapter that raised many questions on the fidelity of Indian judiciary system and its loopholes, alarming concern of masses and spontaneous response of media over this issue. The delayed but justified judgment, changing statements of eye-witness and expose on the malfunctions of judiciary were the main social concerns that later grabbed the headlines. Director Rajkumar Gupta took a bold stand in picking up tits bits of all eventful happening and placing them together in the format of thought-provoking parallel cinema through this film. Music...??? Difficult and different by all standards, it comes through the mindset of the composer who grabbed attention for his quality

works in highly acclaimed films like DEV.D (2009), AAMIR (2009) and UDAAN (2010). Amit Trivedi’s mettle of delivering theme-oriented soundtracks is again at the helm of affairs and so expectations of hearing classy works are high. With the ground support of chirpywording specialist like Amitabh Bhattacharya as its influential lyricist, the album gives its best to “reopen” this important chapter that proved to be an eye-opener for the entire Indian society. Can Amit Trivedi deliver the quality that he has promised in all his earlier works? Will this be a melodic treat for listeners who crave for soul and substance in Bollywood musical albums? Let’s take a bon-voyage to all those eventful happenings through this album... scar award winning music composer A R Rahman has been nominated for the Golden Globe for his music in Danny Boyle’s ‘127 Hours’. This will be the second Golden Globe in a row for the music maestro. Earlier, Rahman won the first Golden Globe in 2009 for his music in the film Slumdog Millionaire. Later he won the Oscars for the same. Golden Globe is Hollywood’s second most prestigious annual awards for films. However, it looks like this years nomination is once again a step towards the second Oscar waiting for Rahman.

TECHNOLOGY

Cyber crime to get What’s in store here’s more on TV for technology more aggressive in in 2011? 2011: Trend Micro

While 2010 saw the unveiling of hot products like the iPad and iPhone 4 as well as the widespread adoption of the Windows 7 and Android operating systems -- 2011 looks poised to build on the best of what the preceding year had to offer.

N

ew Delhi: With the growing diversity of operating systems among companies, and the increasing use of mobile devices, cyber criminals will put a new spin on social engineering by ‘malware campaign’ under which they will bombard recipients with email that drop virus downloaders. According to an internet security software and service provider Trend Micro study on Threat Predictions for 2011, threat researchers have found that more than 80 per cent of the top malware use the web to arrive on users’ systems and every second, 3.5 new threats are released by cyber criminals. During current year, proof of concept attacks against cloud infrastructure and virtualised systems will emerge. Diversity of operating systems at the endpoints forces the cyber criminals to focus more on critical cloud services and server infrastructures. Further, the report noted that mid-sized companies will be targeted in cyber espionage. The growth of targeted and localised attacks will continue both against big name brands and critical infrastructure.

Tablets everywhere Apple’s iPad was just the beginning. In 2011, expect an onslaught of competitors that want to take a bite out of Apple’s near monopoly in the “pad” market. New models from HP, BlackBerry maker Research in Motion, Motorola, Dell, Asus, Cisco, Lenovo, and others are expected to be rolled out in 2011. While these products may not have the instant name recognition of an iPad, they’ll all likely have something that the iPad doesn’t: affordability. What will Apple do in response? There are plenty of shortcomings in the iPad that could be addressed by an iPad successor.

Social networking warfare Upstarts like Facebook and Twitter took the

world by storm in 2010. Will tech heavyweights like Google stand by and watch success like that go unchallenged? Unlikely. Twitter’s 140-character niche may be tough to replicate, but expect 2011 to see competitors attempt to chip away at Facebook’s success. Google is currently rumoured to have a ‘Google Me’ product in the wings, which is expected to give Facebook some competition in 2011. Others are likely to follow suit.

Clouds everywhere There are plenty of reasons for cloud computing to be taken seriously -- by both corporations and consumers -- in 2011.

he new Lava A10 is a stylish mobile phone with a large 3-inch full touchscreen display .It is the first touchscreen mobile phone from Lava .It is a Dual SIM GSM mobile phone .Lava A10 does not feature high speed connectivity options like 3G or WiFi but you can use EDGE/GPRS for the Internet access . Dattoos would be the ultimate user/machine interface Five years ago, Frog Design founder Hartmut Esslinger envisioned a technology that “could influence notions of community, identity, and connectivity with minimal impact on the physical environment.” Using an online design portal, users would select and try out a customized electronic processing device that they would then print onto their own skin. The DNA Tattoo, or Dattoo, could include printable input/output tools such as a camera, microphone, or laser-loudspeaker – it would be up to the user, as would the Dattoo’s aesthetics. Most intriguingly, it would capture its wearer’s DNA, to ensure an intimate user/machine relationship. January 2011 Edition

The first is accessibility. Internet access is close to ubiquitous in many areas now, so storing your data on some server that you can reach only when online is less of an issue than it used to be. The second, though, is cost. In an age when budgets are under the microscope, the cost of running and maintaining your own storage or servers is a factor that can feasibly be eliminated by using cloud-based applications and storage. And finally, there’s the issue of backups. Put simply, backup routines are someone else?s problem when your data is on the cloud -- and that’s a good thing, since many people fail to back up their data adequately, if at all.

Storage Think big and fast in 2011. Traditional mechanical hard drives will be available in 3-terabyte (TB) capacities and larger -- and at prices that will be budget-friendly. Speed freaks, though, will want to look at the upcoming crop of solid state drives (SSDs), which will take full advantage of the newest 6 gigabit per second (Gb/s) SATA drive connectivity standard to pump data through your PC at roughly twice the speed of today’s widespread 3 Gb/s standard. SSDs will continue to command a price premium in 2011, but increasing capacities overall will bring down prices on the units that are currently the costliest. For those who have been waiting for SSDs to get big enough to be interesting, expect 600 gigabyte (GB) drives to appear early in the year.

Networking Networks are generally boring, but 2011 will see some exciting advances in how you get online -- and how quickly. First, the speedy 802.11n wireless standard will become firmly entrenched in notebooks and wireless routers, making wired-like speeds widely available to notebooks and other wireless devices. Even better, a plethora of ‘three-stream’ routers will hit the market, making it possible to stream different types of data across wireless spectrums, so your music listening and file downloading won’t slow down your internet surfing. For those who want the reliable speed of wired connection, the new HomePlug AV2 standard will allow gigabit networking speeds over the standard electrical wiring in your home.

USB 3.0 was unveiled in 2010, but hardly anyone noticed. Expect that to change in 2011, as a flood of new products are unleashed that take advantage of USB 3.0?s tremendous speed advantage over USB 2.0, as well as its bidirectional communication prowess. Not only will 3.0’s theoretical 10x speed advantage over 2.0 make fast external storage a reality, but its ability to send and receive data simultaneously will mean that a wide range of peripherals that bumped up against the limits of 2.0’s data transfer rate will be able to adopt USB wholeheartedly. In 2011, don’t buy a desktop or notebook PC that’s not equipped with the improved USB standard.

Mobile shake-up Expect more choice and more tumult in the mobile space than ever before. For the first time, the smartphone market won’t consist of BlackBerry and iPhone and everyone else.

COCONUT CAKE There’s no cast-in-stone recipes for coconut cake and the cakes can be either white or yellow, although many cakes are covered in coconut (in the south Red Velvet cakes are typically covered in shredded coconut). Many cakes don’t require coconut flavour but often the milk is replaced with coconut milk and the coconut extract is added for an authentic flavour. Cakes can be brushed with simple syrups to ensure moistness and the layers are covered with coconut filling. Typically the cakes are covered with firm frosting but nowadays anything goes which is the thing that I love the most about the American cakes. If it tastes good and is new or an innovative, it’s goes. There’s one rule, though: the cake has to be covered with toasted or plain shredded coconut –over the icing.

Phillip Island is best known for its beautiful sunset penguin parade, although it also offers sheltered beaches to the north and some great surfing beaches to the south. The main town on the island is Cowes, and you can get to the island over a bridge from San Remo. Phillip Island is also well known for the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

WHATS ARROUND:

There are several swimming beaches around Cowes. If you’d prefer to hit the surf then head to one of the many great surfing spots, including Berrys Beach, Cat Bay, Smiths Beach, Summerland and Woolamai. Wildlife is a large attraction of the island, with a large mutton bird colony at Cape Woolamai. There are also some beautiful walking tracks around here. You can also visit the Koala Conservation Centre, Phillip Island Wildlife Park and Wildlife Wonderland. On top of this you should definitely go to the Penguin Parade. There are several tours to see the penguins. The Penguin Parade is when the fairy penguins return from a days fishing to their nesting spots near Summerland Beach. It is very popular, so it is best to book and arrive early as the best viewing spot is from the wooden boardwalk on the beach. For information and current times call the Phillip Island Nature Park Ph: 5956 8300. Summerland Beach also leads onto Point Grant and the remarkable Nobbies and Seal Rocks, home to a seal colony. Other places you can visit include the Old Motor Racing Circuit, the Museum and the wonderful homestead on Churchill Island.

ACCOMMODATION:

The main selection of accommodation on the island is at Cowes, along with most of the restaurants and eating places. Accommodation includes hostels, hotels as well as a number of camping grounds around the park. (It is prohibited to camp and sleep in your car in any other public place). There is no public transport around the island, so once you are there you will either need to join a tour group or hire a bike.

Economic growth the key to FX trading

The foreign exchange markets may seem confusing for people that are new to this exciting world of trading, but the way these markets operate is actually fairly simple. In short, countries that are doing well in economic terms see their currencies appreciate. On the other hand, economies that are doing poorly will usually experience falling currencies. So, this year, we have seen the Australian dollar do very well, moving above parity against the US dollar. This is because the Australian economy is one of the best performing in the world. By the same token, the US dollar has struggled as unemployment in the world’s biggest economy came close to 10% and growth remained stagnant. This year, in addition to the impact of local economies, there were two dominant themes – and both sprung from the global financial crisis that continues to affect markets. The Aussie strikes back The big story this year has been the Australian dollar. The skyrocketing Aussie dollar has really grabbed the attention of currency traders after it passed the US$1 mark in November for the first time since it was floated in 1983. The Australian dollar has been one of the best-performing currencies in recent months, jumping from US$0.80 in June to more than US$1.00 now ¬ – that’s an increase of more than 25% in less than six months! ¬ Australia’s strong economic growth, and high demand for our commodities, has helped push the Australian dollar so high in 2010. Greenback gets hit The US dollar has fallen sharply throughout 2010 as a result of weakness in the US economy. The slowing US economy has caused the US Federal Reserve, the US version of our Reserve Bank of Australia, to keep interest rates extremely low and encourage them to pump more cash into the US economy. With the US government clearly so concerned about the economy, investors have stayed away from the US dollar. Also, the US government’s quantitative easing programme, in which they print money to help growth, has caused the US dollar to lose value. A “how to” guide So, currencies will usually go up or down depending on how well their respective economies are doing. A trader who was watching the Australian dollar against the US dollar (AUD/USD) all year would have seen the Aussie dollar pushing higher as our local economy continued to perform well. The trader might have considered that the time is right to buy the Australian dollar versus the US dollar. With an account size of a $5000 investment with a currency broker, the benefits of margin mean that the trader can gain exposure to a $50,000 position. So if the trader had bought a $50,000 position in the AUD/USD in early July at 85 US cents, by the time the AUD/USD got to 95 US cents in September, the trade would have made $5000 profit. The actual trade would have been as follows; July Buy AUD50,000 @ 0.8500 Sell USD 42,500 Sept Sell AUD50,000 @ 0.9500 Buy USD 47,500 Profit USD 5,000 As can be seen, there was a dramatic increase in the value of the AUD that the trader held during the 2 months. In this case the trader has actually doubled their investment in just over two months. This is an incredible return relative to the 5% that they otherwise would have received if their money was in the bank. It is important to keep in mind that trading Forex does give potential for incredible profits; however, there is an element of risk associated with this type of trading that must be taken into consideration if deciding to invest in Forex. A trader with a view on any two economies can take similar positions. If you believe that the US economy will improve at a faster rate than the European economy, then you would sell the Euro versus the US dollar (EUR/USD). With forex trading you literally have a world of opportunities at your fingertips!

NO ONE KILLED JESSICA

E

Everyone looks forward to the New Year, but Bollywood is an exception. January is perceived to be an unfavourable month to release films. Barring a few films like RANG DE BASANTI (2006) GURU (2007) and ISHQIYA (2010), most films released during this month have flopped. NO ONE KILLED JESSICA (NOKJ) might just change the tide. Based on the real life incident of Jessica Lall’s murder, NOKJ had already generated enough buzz and curiosity. The remaining kasar was completed by the OTT promotions, which also saw Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan kiss (literally) and make up! This is also Rani’s comeback movie of sorts after a forgetful DIL BOLE HADIPPA. In an eminent Delhi Night club, the drinks are flowing, the night is young and the music is rocking. Everyone’s having a gala time in one of the best happening parties in town! But when bartender Jessica

(Myra Karn) refuses to give Manish (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub) a drink, it spells doom. In a rage, he shoots her at point-blank. She succumbs to her injuries while being taken to a hospital.

With about 300 of Delhi’s who’s who present at the party, Manish’s imprisonment is imminent. But as they say, money makes the impossible possible. Witnesses

PATIALA HOUSE stars many international cricketers are bought and the evidences are tampered, all thanks to his Haryana cabinet minister father. The court trial begins and after many years, the bade baap ki bigdi hui aulad Manish and his partners in crime are set free due to witnesses turning hostile and lack of sufficient proof. A distraught sister Sabrina Lall (Vidya Balan) loses all hope. Meera (Rani Mukherjee), a spunky TV journalist who had covered the Indo-Pak Kargil war, had ignored this story till now. She thought it was ‘an open and shut case’. Determined to bring the culprits to justice, she now stars working on the story which gains momentum from the aam junta. It’s not an easy task making a film on a story that has been extensively covered and followed by the media; but director Rajkumar Gupta (of AAMIR fame) does that immaculately. He blends fact and fiction with precision, which results in an entertaining outcome.

Makers of PATIALA HOUSE have been saying that film is not about cricket and actually a father son drama. And cricket is the reason of conflict. Now we actually hear that they have a huge line of cricketers in the film. Huge line up of cricketers that would put any IPL team to shame, cricketers like Nassir Hussain, Brendon McCullun, Herschelle Gibbs, Kieron Pollard, Andrews Symonds, Kamran Akmal, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Graham Gooch, Wasim Akram and Mathew Hayden are part of the cricket matches that feature Akshay Kumar. T Series’ Bhushan Kumar confirms that Nikhil Advani was very keen that to do justice to the script. Akshay is playing for England and it is world cup that they are playing for. So it needed to have a lot of known faces to be seen with Akshay. That’s when we approached these guys, send them the scripts and got them on board. Shooting with the cricketers was amazing, we had thought that Akshay would require a lot of practice and may be we would have to cheat and re create shots but he was amazing and playing like a pro with them.

Gul: There isn’t any compromise in TURNING 30

If Gul Panag is being seen in TURNING 30 today, it is not just because of the banner (Prakash Jha productions) or the script (which reflects modern India’s sensibilities. It is also due to way first time director Alankrita Shrivastava etched out her character of Naina that made Gul go for the film. “Alankrita is very much like me”, smiles Gul, “The moment I met her, I could sense that our sensibilities were matching. She isn’t someone who wants her actors to act loudly. She belongs to that school of cinema where a point can be made in a subtle tone as well. Also she knows how to present her characters and understands how the medium of cinema is meant to be used even if a film is dealing with real situations.” “This is the reason why when my character in the film is going out somewhere, she is very-very modern, real and glamorous. She has to be presented well because she has that social standing”, Gul continues to talk, “On the other hand if she is having a bad hangover after a wild night, she would bear an appearance that will be all over the place. There isn’t any compromise on such aspects.”

D

il Toh Bachcha Hai Jee is a movie, which as the title suggests, is about the essence of a human heart which almost always retains its child like quality. The heart is where life’s entire essence is. Thus to prove this point, director Madhur Bhandarkar has significantly dealt with the subject of love in a very humorous way. The movie stars Ajay Devgn portraying the character of Naren, a middle aged manager of a multinational Bank. There he falls head over heels in love with a young girl barely out of her teens called June Pinto, played by Shazahn Padamese. Omi Vaidya as Milind Kelkar is the typical idealistic poet living in his own transient world has a deep crush for a girl called Gungun Sarkar played by Shraddha Das. Gungun who is a very ambitious and career minded gal has a thing for the playboy Abhay played by Emran Hashmi. Abhay or Emran is strongly attracted to a young and vibrant gal called Nikki, played by Shruti Hassan who is an out and out loud mouth. Nikki does not hesitate to call a spade a spade, a trait which is simply loved by the Casanova Abhay. This entire gamut of affairs and secret liaisons creates a total chaos and as each event gets entangled with the other the movie becomes one big platform of drama and melodrama. Madhur Bhandarkar, who is known for making realistic cinema, has put in the flavor of realism in this movie too, with the characters all very believable and something which a common man can relate to. The music has been scored by Pritam. The movie releases on the 28th of January 2011 so watch out for this one!

he online world has become humungous today. Right from shopping, to networking, to banking, everything can be done through the internet today. But this also has a flipside of security threats. Hacking has become a menace with numerous cases being reported. VIKALP, a film which is about hackers, comes at an opportune time when hacking is at an all time high! It traces the story of Rishika Gandhi (Deepal Shaw), a middle class girl from Maharashtra who has immense computer knowledge. She leaves her job in a Mumbai based IT company after being ridiculed by her boss over a technical goof up. Even her boyfriend breaks up with her after his family objects to their relationship. Feeling flustered, she leaves Mumbai and takes up a job offer in a Bangkok based software company. All’s hunky dory at what seems to be her dream job. It’s only after a few months that she realises she has been trapped and made to do criminal activities in the garb of a software

developer. Will she be able to find her way out? Or is it too late? This is what forms the rest of this thriller. Although it’s based on hacking, there’s nothing which is too difficult to understand. Director Sachin P. Karande takes his own sweet time to

develop the plot. You are waiting for something to happen right till the end of the first half. It’s post the interval that the film gains a bit of momentum. The numerous ingenious twists, take the film forward. But they aren’t enough to make it a taut thriller. Most of the characters have dubious traits; so when their actual intentions are revealed, they don’t have the desired impact. The climax is too convincing to grasp and the film ends on a rather abrupt note. Deepal Shaw plays her part well. But she does ham in some portions. Her bhad me jao monologue, turns out to be more ludicrous than serious. Late Nirmal Pandey is passable as the police officer. Chetan Pandit is decent. Abhijeet Lehri is fine in his small role. Pankaj Berry doesn’t have much scope. VIKALP has some exhilarating moments but they aren’t enough to hold the feeble script together. It turns out to be just an average fair in the end, with you screaming what the ‘hack’!

Pantyless gets boxes full of panties as new year gift

The Czechoslovakian born girl Yana Gupta of ‘Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo’ fame has received a unique New Year gift this year. The fans of the 31 year old lady gifted her several boxes filled with panties! However, Yana has taken this in her stride and said that she accepted them gracefully. We all know the reason behind this gift. She was photographed in a charity event in Mumbai without any innerwear and the topic got spread among the media like wild fire. Her ‘pantyless act’ made her hit once again even though the photographer, the organizer and the item girl, were sued by a social activist. So, Yana will remember the incidence forever in her life and will never forget her panties on any occasion. Moreover, these New Year gifts will not allow her to forget it throughout this year at least. Yana shared about her New Year gifts on the micro-blogging site Twitter saying that she can start her New Year safely with those unusual gifts and she even thanked her fans for those boxes. However, one thing is sure that Yana will not require buying panties for this year as her fans have gifted lots of those to her on the first day of the year itself. She will have lot of choice and variety to select from for various occasions!

Flats or block heels recommended’ Swipe card: Each invite includes a swipe card and guests have been told to carry it for security reasons. The reverse of the swipe card has an address map.

Secretly in love: Yes, that’s Salman Khan in no me shouting, Marry me Rani mood to patch up with Shah Rukh

The film crew insists that director Rajkumar Gupta is smitten by Rani Mukerji Is No One Killed Jessica director Rajkumar Gupta secretly in love with Rani Mukerji? According to members of the film crew Gupta couldn’t take his eyes off her whenever she was on the sets. Divulges a source, “It was quite obvious for everyone that Raj was quite smitten by her. He found every excuse to be close to her and even insisted on playing a cameo in the film where he gets to propose to Rani’s character.” The situation in the script demanded one of Rani’s character’s colleagues in the office to shout a marriage proposal to Rani. Apparently, some other actor was supposed to do that role. Raj insisted on playing that role just for the pleasure of proposing to Rani. When asked about the special

bonding with his leading lady, Gupta laughs, “Yes that’s me shouting, ‘Marry me’ to Rani in one sequence. Someone else was supposed to do the cameo. But no one had the guts to say those two words to Rani. So I took up the challenge.” Choice made One doesn’t know how far Gupta’s ardent feelings for Rani go. But one hears he has already decided to cast her in his next film Rapchik Romance, an out-and-out romantic

musical with lots of songs, fun and masti. Says Gupta, “It’s too early to talk about whom I’d cast in Rapchik Romance. I’m still writing it. But yes, it’s a film I am very excited about. After Aamir and No One Killed Jessica I don’t want to be typecast as the director who only makes hard-hitting social dramas. I want to surprise everyone, including me.” As for casting Rani again, “Why not?” comes the defiant retort.

he glitzy world of Bollywood has many enemies and rivals however, Shahrukh Khan is one celebrity who believes in forgetting the past to move on. At a recent episode of Karan Johar’s ‘Koffee with Karan’, Shahrukh let his heart out as he asked for forgiveness from all friends who have been hurt as a result of him in the past. Shahrukh wanted to usher in the New Year on a fresh note, however, the Bad Boy of Bollywood, Salman Khan hardly wanted to forget the past. It seems that Salman have taken things with Shahrukh quite seriously and does not want to be friends with the King Khan. According to sources, Salman was quite miffed with Shahrukh when he apologized on the television show ‘Koffee with Karan’. Salman remarked that if Shahrukh wanted to apologize, he should have at least called him up or paid a visit to his house.

It seems that Salman is in no mood to patch up with Shahrukh. Salman seems to quite annoyed with the melodrama that Shahrukh created on the show in front of millions of viewers. Shahrukh is having a difficult time when Salman became friends with Aamir Khan. The two share a great bond and recently Salman was spotted at Imran Khan and Avantika’s Malik’s sangeet at Karjat.

movie preview

Impatient Vivek

N

ot much is known about IMPATIENT VIVEK and the title doesn’t make things easier. Debutante Vivek Sudarshan, who plays the lead role in the film, holds a PhD in science communications. That’s not all. He’s also an accomplished puppeteer, having written a handbook on the same. Very commendable, isn’t it? The film also stars Sayali Bhagat whose claim to fame still remains her debut film THE TRAIN opposite Emraan Hashmi. It is love at first sight for Vivek (Vivek Sudarshan) who meets Shruti

(Sayali Bhagat) while holidaying in Goa with his friends. After Shruti doesn’t reciprocate his feelings, he returns dejected to his hometown in Rajasthan. Call it fate or coincidence, two years later, he accidentally bumps into her. But she still has no feelings for him and is about to tie the knot to USA based NRI guy. In haste, Vivek kidnaps her and keeps her at his place. That’s all you need to know as far as the story goes. The initial few minutes make you feel you are watching a semi-porn film. There’s a tacky body massage scene which makes you cringe. A

poorly shot love making scene also appears later in the film. Sigh! What seems to be a Vivek and Shruti centric story, suddenly changes track as many other characters are introduced. It just seems random stories are put together and the film is made without paying any attention to the script. Director Rahat Kazmi has got it all wrong. There’s practically nothing that works for the film. It’s a tiring watch and is not even unintentionally funny. The copious songs add insult to injury. Director: Rahat Kazmi Music: Raja Ali Music: Sanjay Mishra & Nusrat Badr, Hrishikesh Joshi, Sayali Starring: Bhagat, Vivek Sudershan and Charu Asopa

Anil Kapoor to go Bald for Power

T

hings are on the roll for Anil Kapoor, who has two of the best projects, both in Hollywood and Bollywood. If he has landed with a plum negative role for Mission Impossible 4, he will be a part of the most eagerly awaited multi-starrer Raj Kumar Santoshi film, Power, in 2011. In Power, Anil Kapoor will go bald! Since Anil has always been someone who has been possessive about his hair and not changed his hairstyle in many years, this one is certainly a revelation. Shaving off his head completely has a lot to do with the fact that Anil will be playing a dreaded

villain in the film. His character is spontaneous, treacherous, and edgy and yes, stylish. A source says “Anil has always been possessive about his hair. He did give a lot of thought about shaving his head off, last month, and finally decided to go completely bald.” Though there were talks about getting a stylish wig for the role, Anil thought that going bald would elevate the popularity stakes of the character he was playing. The source further added, “Anil is currently busy to shoot for Mission impossible 4. He will come back and then go bald, shooting for Power.”

Hot-Shots Jacqueline Sizzles in Murder 2

I

f Mallika Sherawat was responsible for male hormones going on an overdrive in Murder, the Bhatt camp has decided to sign Jacqueline Fernandez for its sequel-Murder 2. Emran Hashmi, the regular Bhatt fixture, will be a part of it, but the rest of the casting has changed. The leggy Jacqueline will play reprise the role of the voluptuous Mallika. The producer Mukesh Bhatt was in no mood to sign Mallika because he feels that she is high-handed and had grown too big for her boots. Though Jacqueline has been associated with a cute image due to her roles in films like Aladin and Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, she hopes to go ahead and break the mould by showing her erotic side in Murder 2. Considering the Bhatts are known to give a fresh start and a new image to their actors, things are looking sunny side up for the Sri Lankan beauty.

Ekta Kapoor Shoots Sanjay Dutt’s House and Office Film in Just 20 Days Attached by High Court

S

I

If Love, Sex aur Dhokha was shot in just a month, producer Ekta Kapoor has broken her own record by shooting ‘Ragini MMS’ in just 20 days. As of now, the movie shot discreetly, away from the eyes of the media, is 90 percent complete. The film stars Raj Kumar Yadav of LSD and Kainaaz Motiwala of Wake Up Side fame. The film is coproduced by Ekta Kapoor’s Alt Entertainment and I Rock Films. Ekta confirms, “The story is based on a real life couple’s experience. We already had 50 per cent of the material and we added another half to make it more entertaining. So films like this should take 20 days max. By January 5, we will be done.” Ekta

admits that the film was easier to complete because there were no stars involved. She says, “We took a decision of taking a new guy and a new girl because we wanted to make the film in a very raw manner. I wanted the couple to look as real as possible.I mean the kind of conversation they have in their bedroom. Imagine Paranormal Activity having Kate Winslet. It would have never worked.” The TV czarina adds, “The director, the producer Sid Jain, and the team from our side were very clear what they wanted to do. Such films are made for smaller audiences so you need to make them cost effective, so that you keep making these movies.”

anjay Dutt’s life has always been full of ups and downs, and here is another downer for him. His past has against caught up with him, haunting him yet again. In 2002 Shakeel Noorani, a producer had launched a film called ‘Jaan Ki Baazi’ that had Dutt in the main lead opposite Priyanka Chopra. But Sanjay had reportedly, walked out of the film, midway leaving the producer in the lurch. He claims that he had then moved to Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) but the arbitration committee had adjourned the case. The IMPAA then told Noorani to move to the High Court, which executed the decree attaching the assets of Sanjay Dutt, which includes his residence in, Imperial Heights building at Pali Hill, Nargis Dutt Road, Bandra and his office, Sanjay Dutt Productions, Mayfair Melody at Tagore Road in Santacruz. Noorani has sought a claim of Rs 2.03 crore from Sanjay Dutt, which also includes Rs 50 lakh paid to him as signing amount. Noorani’s lawyer Ashok Sarogi, told the media that Sanjay had the option to either pay the amount within 30 days or his properties, both office and residence would be auctioned off. Sanjay Dutt’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, said that they will go through the decree execution order of the High Court and the IMPAA decision and then take the right course of action. Meanwhile, Shakeel Noorani also said that Sanjay Dutt has underworld ties and had even threatened him on a few occasions.

Shahrukh rocks as G.ONE in RA.ONE first look

BAND BAAJA BAARAAT’s success gets Anushka on PATIALA HOUSE poster

M

ove over Spiderman, Batman, Superman as the newest superhero, our very own - Shahrukh Khan is here! Bollywood Badshah is all set to give takkar to all the superheroes of world. Don’t believe us? Well, have a dekho at the first look of the upcoming super hero flick RA.ONE and you will be nothing less than marveled. Recently, the superstar unveiled the first look poster of his much awaited sci-fi flick. It features SRK in absolutely new avatar and he plays the character of G.ONE. Must say SRK looks super cool in that superhero costume. This is said to be one of the costliest (not less than a crore) costumes which he wears in the movie. The costume has been specially designed keeping the high end action sequences in mind

The filmmakers wanted to portray the same in their first key art poster for their audiences. So they finalised that the poster will feature Rishi Kapoor and Akshay Kumar in order to give an insight about the film and the relationship they share. The poster was all set to be launched but then BAND BAAJA BAARAAT released and was liked a lot by the audience. So after the success of BAND BAAJA BAARAAT the makers of Patiala House now wanted to feature Anushka in the poster as well. As a result, interestingly now the final poster features Anushka Sharma of the BAND BAAJA BAARAAT fame along with Akshay Kumar.

Liz Hurley and Shane Warne back on track?

H

arry Potter star Emma Watson thinks that she makes a ‘rubbish’ girlfriend because she’s always working. The star, who earned 29 million dollars in 2009 and was named Hollywood’s highest-paid woman last year, explained that she is constantly busy and does not have time to be in a relationship, reports the Daily Telegraph. Buzz up! “It’s rubbish being my boyfriend. People are constantly coming up to me, I’m always working,” website Musicrooms quoted her as saying. “I don’t have a boyfriend at the moment. It feels good, actually. It’s nice to be selfish,” she said. The 20-year-old, who is now a student at Brown University, Rhode Island, has also added that she will always keep her romances private. “I’m never going to confirm or deny who I am dating, but if they keep doing it, the tally will get so high - not very Hermione,” Watson added.

iz Hurley and Shane Warne have once again sparked rumors of their possible romance after the pair began flirting again on Twitter yesterday. The pair took to Twitter to share a flirty conversation about their new year’s resolutions, reports the Daily Mail. The cricketer broke the ice when he asked mother-of-one Hurley if she had any resolutions for 2011. “Lots of them and they all begin with Start or Stop,” Hurley tweeted back. “You’re being blonde...as in Stop eating sweeties and Start doing sit ups xx,” the model continued with what she meant. Warne then said: “Enjoy rabbit food me - not!!!!! Enjoy NYE with Damian... I didn’t mean u to stop eating sweeties and do sit ups-they’re my resolutions. I know you’re a salad eating gym bunny by nature xx,” Hurley replied. The flirty banter clearly suggests things are back on track with the couple.

Kapil, Richards, Imran back India but Ranatunga bats for Lanka New Delhi: Kapil Dev and Sir Vivian Richards feel that India are run-away favourites to win next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup, but Imran Khan and Arjuna Ranatunga added a note of caution about their ability to soak in the pressure of playing at home. That, in a nutshell, was how the former captains and legends in their own rights felt about how things will pan out in a couple of months’ time as the marquee event starts on February 19. “They are the No. 1 in the world (in Test matches) and have a volatile crowd behind them. They have something to defend. The team is going to South Africa where pitches will be different but it can prove to be helpful as they prepare for the World Cup,” legendary West Indian batsman Richards, who was the member of the 1975 and 1979 World Cup winning squad, said. ‘King Richards’, however, wasn’t too sure about how West Indies will perform although he admitted that the likes of Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard do have the talent to go the distance. “Some prayer would obviously help,” he said in lighter vein. “On a serious note, they do have the talent but they need to get things organised

to mentally feel that he can do it.” While Imran Khan termed India as favourites, he cited how West Indies and Pakistan were favourites in the 1983 and 1987 editions but buckled down under pressure. “I remember going into the semifinal feeling confident. However, we made mistakes and couldn’t handle the pressure. The same thing happened with West Indies in 1983. Just after Viv got out, they wilted under pressure,” Imran said. The iconic former Pakistan skipper also said that the key to winning World Cup lay in having two batsmen who can play well throughout the tournament and others building the innings around their knocks. Sri Lanka’s World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga termed his country as favourites and didn’t forget to mention that Indians tend to crumble when they play in front of huge crowds in pressure cooker situation. “I have seen the Indian team fail in pressure situations while playing in front of 100,000 people. There are a bit. May be they need a catalyst who could inspire them like Arjuna did with the Sri Lankan team during the 1996 World Cup.” For Kapil Dev, the first step should be towards reaching the semifinal and taking it from there. “If you want to win the World Cup, you need to play well in those 20-30 days. Also the fact that they are going to South Africa before that would be of great help like we had a tough tour of West Indies right before the 1983 World Cup. We played tough cricket in the Windies and subsequently in the World Cup. “Similarly if the Indians do well in South Africa, it would be a great confidence booster. Even if they don’t, they know they will be playing in front of the home crowd,” Kapil said pointing out that the likes of Tendulkar,

We all have to quit sometime: Kumble Virender Sehwag, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir will play key roles. About Harbhajan Singh’s lean patch with the ball, Kapil said, “It’s matter of time before he gets back to form. The only thing is that he needs

BANGALORE: After surprising everyone with his decision to stay away from IPL, a relaxed Kumble spoke to TOI about what made him give up a potential Rs 2 crore or more a year and opt instead to mentor the RCB side for a far more modest, albeit undisclosed sum. Why did you quit?

times when the expectations are huge and it takes a toll,” Ranatunga said. The burly former skipper feels that Lankans have a potent combination with experienced players such as Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Lasith Malinga, Muralitharan to name a few. “However, I believe the team of 1996 had a better middle-order as we had players such as Aravinda D’Silva, Asanka Gurusinha, myself, Roshan Mahanama, Hasan Tillekratne.”

We all have to quit sometime, so I thought why not now and not three years down the line. The easiest thing for me to do is to play cricket, more so in this shortest of formats. The more difficult part is my business and cricket administration. My business commitments are growing and as you know I now head the KSCA.

So I thought I would devote more time to those aspects of my life. Why now, so late in the day? Simply put, there’s no good time to go, and I thought this is as good a time as any. What is this mentoring role all about? I will be a part of RCB’s leadership unit. I will work with the youngsters and improve the bench strength of the side besides other things. I see my role as mentor as a natural progression. Will it be a professional role? Of course. I will be travelling with the team too besides spending time with them in Bangalore.

Communication is a vital part of having Good Sex Ayurvedic View: Clinical Practice. Under these Feelings, feeling of “I am not successful” will be the major underlying causative factor for most of the sexual problems. 1. Fear of pregnancy; Fear of pain; Fear of being caught / heard / or interrupted. 2. Performance Anxiety-Fear of failing to perform well. 3. Fear of losing control (during orgasm) and or becoming vulnerable. 4. looking unattractive during the climax. 5. Bad feelings about yourself or your body like, feeling that the body is unattractive. 6. Feelings that I am not successful (low self-esteem).

Problems in relationship:

Ayurveda believes sexual communication plays vital role in sexual satisfaction. Sexual communication is an important aspect of sex. Sometimes the use of words to describe certain wants or needs for sexual satisfaction can create certain fears, which can ultimately lead to a breakdown of communication. This break down or non-existence of sexual communication can often serve as a barrier for sexual intimacy which can lead to a decrease in libido. Sex, like most other functions of

our body is a normal process. As other functions, like for example, the digestion, can be upset by factors like a bad mood, stress or similar such things, so can the sexual function be disturbed by a whole lot of factors. These may not necessarily involve the anatomy but instead it’s the mind, communication between partners which makes the difference. There are wide ranges of problem or situations that can upset the normal sexual responsiveness, most of them, fortunately, can be helped in a positive manner by understanding on our part.

Here are a few of the most common amongst them and ways to improve. Misunderstanding and/or lack of information about sex: Its indeed one of the most telling ironies that Sex, despite being one of the most commonly discussed topic in our lives and in the media, there is a surprising lack of correct information about ‘What to Expect and How to Act’. Bad feelings about Sex and its consequences: This is one among the major factors that can observe in majority of the clients in Ayurvedic

Anger/resentment against the partner should be resolved as it can decrease the performance and pleasure while having sex.

Improve communication: Communication is a vital part of having Good Sex. Remember “Sex is as much between the Ears, as it is, between the Legs”. Good communication with your partner can make the difference between having Sex ‘for the sake of it’ and having ‘a really good time’. Good verbal communication is a necessity in all relationships. An open

and honest conversation about sex can solve many sexual problems. Often, honest and open communication is cause for enhancements in overall sexual and emotional intimacy. Every couple is unique and has different methods for communicating. Some couples never talk about sex, while others show less inhibition. However, there should be a method between couples within the relationship to express feelings about sexual likes and dislikes in such a manner that provides important feedback without creating feelings of inadequacy. Finding this healthy sexual communication in your relationship can lead to the development of higher sexual intimacy. Trending in 2011: The Dukan Diet?

I

t is always hard to predict what the new year will bring, but we all know that January is the month where we celebrate, talk about, embrace, and live-and-breathe dieting. We start with the best of intentions: to lose a few holiday pounds, to get rid of the 2010 weight we put on, to get ready for shorts and bathing suit weather. Unfortunately, many will fail, but maybe…just maybe…you might find success with something new. And will that new be the Dukan Diet? According to magazine Marie Claire, Jennifer Lopez and Gisele Bundchen both reportedly turned to the new French Dukan Diet, to help shift those post-pregnancy pounds. And now the mother of Britain’s future queen has brought the diet into the spotlight once again. This diet, which originated in France by nutritionist Dr.

Pierre Dukan, is living large in over 1. 5 million French households, where women appear to be finding success. There are four stages to the Dukan Diet, which incorporate some of the best of the best diet strategies. Phase one, the Attack Stage, is a high-protein, no-carb approach, a stricter version of Atkins and South Beach. There is a list of 72 protein-rich foods to choose from during this week of dieting. The second phase alternates a high-protein diet with a vegetarian diet on alternate days (also call the Cruising Stage). In addition to the aforementioned 72 protein-rich foods, there is the addition of 28 low-carb vegetables. Next up is a Consolidation Stage in which carbs are added back into your daily diet in small amounts to avoid weight gain. You are allowed two

celebration meals per week and the goal is 1 pound for every 5 days in this stage.

Finally, once you have reached your goal weight, the Stabilization Stage kicks in. This fourth and final phase has a bit of a twist: you can eat what you want every day except one day per week (designated as Thursday) when you revert to the Attack Stage and eat a high-protein, no-carb regimen. Dr. Dukan believes that by taking off the

Poor Vit D levels in newborns up risk of respiratory infections

ewborns with low vitamin D levels seem to be more vulnerable to respiratory infections and the occurrence of wheezing. Researchers analysed data from the New Zealand Asthma and Allergy Cohort Study which followed more than 1,000 children in the cities of Wellington and Christchurch. The study was designed to examine the relationship between the actual blood levels of vitamin D of newborns and the risk of respiratory infection, wheezing and asthma, the journal Paediatrics reports. “Our data suggest that the association between vitamin D and wheezing, which can be a symptom of many respiratory diseases and not just asthma, is largely due to respiratory infections,” says Carlos Camargo, who led the study. “For example, bronchiolitis – a viral illness that affects small airway passages in the lungs – is the leading cause of hospitalisation in US infants,” adds Camargo of Massachusetts General Hospital in the US, according to a Massachusetts statement. Although vitamin D helps in developing and maintaining strong

bones, recent evidence suggests that it is also critical to the immune system. The body synthesises vitamin D in response to sunlight, and achieving adequate levels in winter can be challenging, especially in regions with poor or weak sunlight.

Previous studies by Camargo’s team found that children of women who took vitamin D supplements during pregnancy were less likely to develop wheezing during childhood.

weight this way and remaining true to the Stabilization Stage, that you can remain at your goal weight for life. A book, based on the diet, is available in French in Europe and has been translated into 10 other languages. An English U.K. version was released in May of 2010, and had already hit the #1 spot in the diet, women’s health, and men’s health categories before even being released. Amazon U.S. shows that the book should be available any day. While you wait for this book to become available and become part of a trend in 2011, you can find similar diets that can help you on your weight loss journey with a few quick clicks. VITAMINS AND MINERALS Homeopathic Help >> Raj Kothuru

The amounts we need are very small and are found in the foods we eat. Vitamins fall into two categories: fat soluble and water soluble. The fat-soluble vitamins - A, D, E, and K - dissolve in fat and can be stored in your body. The water-soluble vitamins - C and the B-complex vitamins (such as vitamins B6, B12, niacin, riboflavin, and folate) - need to dissolve in water before the body can absorb them.

Dear Readers of Indian Times, All practitioners from Aura Health Concepts wish you all a very Healthy And Happy New Year. Nutrition is the good that we get from the food we eat and it helps our bodies work.

MINERALS: Minerals are inorganic compounds (not containing carbon) that make up the major part of the surface of the earth. Minerals are absorbed by plants from the soil and water and then become part of the foods we eat.

What children eat is important because different food groups contain different nutrients (carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water) and children need a balanced diet of different types of food for their bodies to stay healthy.

Minerals are the basic building blocks of life. They are the elements of transmutation and evolution that have enabled various forms of life and consciousness to evolve. Imbalance in Minerals (on the cellular level) is one of the basic causes of diseases. Minerals make up about 4% of our total body weight in varying quantities.

It is very essential to feed your children with nutritious foods to combat the symptoms of vitamin and mineral deficiencies in children. Inadequate diet and certain medical conditions can deprive children’s body of certain vitamins and minerals that lead to various deficiencies in children resulting in a range of diseases.

Whereas vitamins are organic substances (made by plants or animals), minerals are inorganic elements that come from the soil and water and are absorbed by plants or eaten by animals. A child’s body needs larger amounts of some minerals, such as calcium,

Vitamins are substances not normally produced in the body but are required in minute quantities for proper cell metabolism(exceptions are Vitamin D and K which are normally synthesized by the body).

to grow and stay healthy. Other minerals like chromium, copper, iodine, iron, selenium, and zinc are called trace minerals because you only need very small amounts of them each day. Vitamins and minerals boost the immune system, support normal growth and development, and help cells and organs do their jobs. Carrots are good for eyes. That is because Carrots are full of substances called carotenoids that the body converts into vitamin A, which helps prevent eye problems. And to have strong bones, children need to eat foods such as milk, yogurt, and green leafy vegetables, which are rich in the mineral calcium. Many children can have malassimilation of these vitamins and minerals even though taking good quantity of balanced diet and supplements. This can be due to stress, inherited genetic tendencies, pollutants, chemical traces in food and poor quality of food. This is where natural therapies like Homeopathy can help to regulate proper assimilation and revive our bodies from disease and put them on the track of recovery naturally. In the forth coming articles we will look deep into each mineral and vitamin, and the

diseases caused by their deficiency amongst children and the best ways of tackling them. Above all, remember: In every ‘body’ there is a built in doctor, developed over 40 million years of evolution. Homeopathy simply kicks this existing doctor into action. You may ask your personal query to Raj Kothuru (Homeopath) via email drraj@ aurahealth.com.au or phone 0425 761 826 / (03) 9077 5044 regarding any of your health problems.
