Artist Statement

Traditional architecture is of necessity because it is a concentrated expression of a culture. It embodies the particular environmental, economical, religious and social requirements and yet it remains universally recognizable as shelter, protection and symbol. Through a buildings material, tactile and ritual presence, a deep sense of place is evoked and the mystery of everyday life is revealed. My intention as a designer is to be inclusive and make the connection between the environment and their inhabitants to sustain their culture and place in the community through architecture.

gateway to the himalayas a reconception of Luka Airport The Site is a fragile and a tough place to live where Buddhism prevails throughout the region. After the construction of the airstrip once an etremely remote location is now easily accessible. With so many visitors coming to the area, a lot of pressure is placed on what was traditionally a subsistent economy and that becomes a draw for people from rural communities to get a regular job and earn a living. My aim is to set an example of appropriate modernization. The project is planned around a scarcity of resources and desires to do as little harm as possible to the environmentwhich are both, Buddhist principle and basic tenants of sustainable design.

Interior view of timber structure

The structure is a combination of six independent bearing layers out of which are three sets are Glulam beams on each axis of the hexagonal grid and a series of rectangular cross section spacers fasten beam – to beam in a sequence alternating at each node. As a network, the structure resists both lateral and gravity loads, with each bearing element under unique bending and torsion stresses.

The undulating form of the roof structure was inspired by the terrain of the Himalayas and the pattern of the structure immitates woven bamboo basket commonly used in the area for carrying firewood, grass and other goods. 17

This building will be a new south-east regional headquarters for the design firm IDEO, incorporating creative spaces for design ideation and innovation. The size and scale of the building is 30,000 sf, 3 stories on a 90’x240’ site in the Historic District of Savannah, Ga. Space considerations include a 100 seat auditorium for digital media screenings, design “think tanks” for group design sessions, creative activity spaces, and general operating spaces, indoor and outdoor social spaces.

This building is the US Customes and Immigration Facility at the boarder of US and Canada between Seattle, US and Vancouver, Canada. I approached this project as architecture being a part of the entire ecosystem where there is a symbiont relationship between the living and the environment. My primary goal is to create a sence of place in architecture that interacts with nature and human.

Port of savannah How A Derelict Port Can Be Reimagined into Cityscape

57

The Ocean Terminal District is a master plan that can allow Savannah’s successful urban environment to expand westward into the Port of Savannah in Garden City. Savannah’s Historic District is a premier example of a successful urban design, and its language and essence is preserved through this expansion. By manipulating the city grid to maximize public space, this project allows the ward system to spread into the Port of Savannah while more accurately addressing the needs of the public.

The Port of Savannah is a semi-silent economic force that helps drive Chatham County and a significant portion of the Low Country. The port currently supplies the area with 352,000 jobs, 8.3% of Georgia’s total employment, and took in $66.9 billion in sales in 2011. This translated into $1.1 billion in local taxes for the county. Last year the port moved $54 trillion worth of merchandise and 8.7% of American trade.

Maya Universe Academy was established as a result of a youth movement to provide free education in rural Nepal. The primary school is supported by the community and volunteers who are devoted to bettering the lives of students, their families, and their surrounding. The school’s vision is to establish a self- sustainable common place for people across continents to share ideas and experiment an alternative way of exchanging goods, services and knowledge.
