n August of 2017 I received a letter from Senator Jim Nielsen. He had read the article written in Upgraded Living regarding healing with horses and my efforts to train adopted horses to become certified therapy horses so that I may be able to help members of the community with our nonprofit in Oroville. My vision is to leave a legacy here in Oroville to benefit horses and wounded people by giving them the opportunity to experience the healing effects of horses. The day I received this letter I was questioning if I should continue my work here. I was feeling defeated and wondering if I was really doing God’s will for my life and the animals. When I opened this letter and read his words,
I realized that God was putting wind back in my sails and confirming that this is my life ministry. This is what I am supposed to be doing with my life. I have been given the opportunity to adopt horses, help them heal, train them, and give them purpose, along with value by helping humans heal. I am not a wealthy woman and I am judged by many who drive by my highly visible ranch. I don’t have the

funds for fancy barns and fences. I choose to spend my limited funds on my animals for food, farriers, and vet care. The horses are why I have my life today. I am a survivor of domestic violence. For 19 years I endured a very unhealthy marriage and then I finally got out. All I had were my clothes. I was no longer a stay-athome mother and wife. I was grief stricken. The horses helped me to get through my grief, walk through my fears, build confidence, and learn how to set boundaries that are healthy. They helped me to find out who I was and what my purpose for my life was. I have had so many amazing experiences with people and the horses, such as the autistic boy who comes to the ranch. For one hour I walk him around and he is silent, a different child. He is completely at peace while on the horse and his mom has an hour to rest. And the little girl who came because she
