Paddy Quinn, a young shearer, becomes caught up in a struggle between workers and their bosses, while his wife Maureen battles to raise their family — and senses that Paddy is in love with a wealthy suffragette, Nesta Darling. Paddy, meanwhile, is torn between this love and his desire to see justice done to the working man.
