HOME REJUVENATION Ambli Gam, Ahmedabad Guided By: Sneha Aiyer Ami Gokani Manuel M de las Heras

Ambli is the centurial village on the west side of the city Ahmedabad. The name of the village came out of the old tree of tamarind(in Gujarati it is called ambli), near the oldest Temple and also a lake near it, which is called Ambli Lake. There are five main communities in settlement and so the areas are separated accordingly. Individual houses of around 100-150 years old were taken up for study and redesign according to the daily needs of the ocupant family. Selection of the houses were also divided according to the communities of settlement. The study of relation with the chowk and street were the main aspect of analysis. The program was to redesign the house by retaining the dominating aspect of house and giving separate spaces for two or three students as a paying guest along with the present family living in the house. While retaining the height and access of house the changes had taken up according to the program given and requirement of the occupants. Also considering the old construction methods, the context of the house taken and the village life, the openings were thought.

LAKE HOUSE

Polo Forest, Gujarat

Guided By: Attreya Bhattacharya Prateek Zaveri Ami Gokani Tanvi Jain

The ancient Polo city have been established in 10th century and later in 15th century was conqured by Marwar. The name is derived from pol, the Marwari word for “gate“, signifying its status as a gateway between Gujarat and Rajasthan. The 400 sq.km. area of dry mixed desidious forest. There are more than 450 species of medicinal plants, 275 around birds and 30 mammals and 32 reptiles. The site was hypothetically made out of sketches from forest and then generated contours from the collage. Texture and topology will be reflected from Polo Forest. The program was to select a site area from the generated contours and design a Rest house for the migratory people due to their profession. To design a house for 4 occupants - 3 migrators and 1 healer (the permanent resident). The site selected was on the banks of river. The idea was to provide a space over the water and design a deck kind of element in design. Providing the occupants separate rooms along with kitchen, dining, central gathering space, a library and a sitting space on deck.
